  • I love tallow! But it's SO freakin' expensive! Every time that I have bought it in the past I use it sparingly, but when in reality I want to use it all over my body every single day.
Recently we started getting our raw milk from a new farm that has a wonderful farm store and they have many wonderful things from local grass fed meats, bones, produce, etc, and they also had beef fat!!! So of course I had to get some because I was determined to make myself some tallow!
So I looked up the process on good ol' pinterest and saw how simple it was to render fat and whip up myself some tallow. I did forget to do the “purifying” step which takes the beefy smell out, but I actually didn’t really smell anything beefy about the tallow after I rendered the fat and added the essential oils.
I had no clue I was going to end up with around 40oz of it! I am so excited (I'm even going to share some with friends!).
People have asked me if it smells like beef?
During the rendering process it did, but after not so much. Then I mix essential oils in it as well, so I definitely don't smell any "beefy" smell.
    How do you render fat?
    A crockpot and 12 hours.
What are the benefits of using Tallow on your skin?
Hydration: Tallow is rich in fatty acids and can help restore the skin's natural oil production. The lipids in tallow seal moisture into the skin and prevent fluid loss.
Skin barrier: Tallow's chemical makeup is similar to the skin's DNA, which helps it mimic the skin barrier. This can help maintain the skin's structural integrity.
Collagen: Tallow contains vitamins and minerals that are essential for collagen creation.
Wound healing: Tallow can help wounds heal quickly.
Skin tone: Tallow can help improve skin tone and the appearance of UV-damaged skin.
Anti-inflammatory: Tallow can help calm irritated skin.
Vitamin E: Tallow contains vitamin E, which has antioxidant properties that help combat free radicals.
Vitamin K: Tallow contains vitamin K, which can help heal and reduce the appearance of scars.
Easy absorption: Tallow is easily absorbed into the skin, so it won't leave a greasy residue or clog pores.
Helps with acne, eczema, dry skin, inflammation, wrinkles, so much!
Tallow can be used as a balm to hydrate the skin. It can also be used in shampoos to soothe and hydrate dry or sensitive skin.
    What recipe did you use?
    1 cup of tallow
1/4 cup olive oil or jojoba oil
48 drops of essential oils (or more if you like)
Melt the oils together, remove from heat and stir in essential oils and let cool on the counter or fridge until solid (room temp is fine).
Whip in a stand mixer or with a handheld mixer.
How long does whipped tallow last?
4-5 months in an air tight container, store in a cool dark place, or for up to a year in the fridge.
I just saved myself a lot of money making myself tallow for me and my family! The midwest fall and winter months will have nothing on us now!

I think I'm going to make some for Christmas gifts. My Daddy has severe cracked skin from handwashing A LOT and dry skin. He also has bad arthritis in his hands. What EO would you recommend for the tallow???

@@christinemoon4756 I’m making some for Christmas gifts as well. Such a great gift!!!!!!!
I used frankincense, lavender, and copaiba for one batch and the blend Bloom for another. You can use any that are good for skin.
