I spent a really long time working on this, trying to go over everything I can in a natural and engaging way to help players understand what I think of things with my 400 hours, ive been playing the game since March 2020 and I think I have a very good grasp on the state of the game. I hope the video was engaging, interesting and enjoyable to watch.

@@fabrice1013 alpha started a year ago, just accumulated the hours. Also did a lot of testing and duels with a lot of the other old testers for many hours, with ziggy of course to.

Since the second minutes, I'm not even watching this as a tier list, this is like an amazing weapon guide with superb gameplay example. As a beginner who is bad at the game (kd under 1 and hitting ally way too much), I'm learning so much just by watching your gameplay

No, next tier list should take entire loadouts into account. You are rarely going to go into a fight with just one weapon..so why make a tier list assuming you will be using JUST that weapon? Its utterly pointless speculation.

I do take loadouts into account, but more often than not, its not really a huge factor in the placement of a weapon. The shovel would be higher if not for engineer.

i like playing archer but it feels like it just doesn't do anything to help the team other than occasionally annoying an enemy
@@anormalguy8407 Archers are more of a distraction/skirmish thing. It serves to supress and stress out the enemy team so the enemy team lose focus and accuracy when dealing with your melee teammates.
Unless you just shoot really good, then everyone just dies anyway.
As a prior For Honor player, the Chivalry 2 beta for consoles was super super fun and way more accessible and new player friendly to my friends. Me personally I really really enjoyed this and it really helped out. Super informative, super fun to watch the gameplay and overall sounded like you have a genuine passion for the game. Keep it up man

@@Ziggylata really? I thought For Honor had more depth than chivalry by far with it's really fluid, open ended feints/GBs/Specials & unique attributed for each attack (some have hyper armor, or feint a certain way, or auto parry). Chivalry has better zoning and general...chaos vibes.

@@grundlewizard1775 for honor has a set hero system with some being far more overpowered than others. And in typical Ubisoft manner, they made the dlc heroes objectively better in many instances.
Dont even get me started with how for honor launched with peer to peer connection. Combat is also very repetitive in for honor compared to chivalry. For honor has basically scripted combat with only three directions and no stabbing. Chivalry also emphasizes mass gameplay instead of just 4v4 at most with generic enemies.
I played for honor at launch and it was a fun game for a time. But it became more and more heavily outdated as time went by.

That said all the OG heroes have been reworked with new attributes to keep up w/ the dlc characters, and if you get back on now, it's silly how many mixups and whatnot you have to learn to get competitive again 🥲

Hey, for someone who has used the Two-Handed Spear a lot this past few days (20 hours at least), I can agree with your placement if you do not use it properly. As you said on the video, the goal of this guy is not to try to 1 vs 1 (especially against one handed weapons). Your goal is not to stay behind others or guard choke points neither, that is a misconception. As the Two-Handed Spear is not so common, a lot of people tends to not understand how it works.
Firstly (in 1 vs1), as you said, the Two-Handed Spear has no Horizontal Strike ; however, it counts as one for the parade. Most people doesn't know that, and tends to (as you said) spam the stab button. Make this mistake count.
Secondly (in 1 vs1), the stab with the Two-Handed Spear is one of the hardest stab to read correctly. Why? Because of the animation! The middle part of the animation is an acceleration, meawhile the end is a deceleration. Try to use these speed differences to touch the guy either at the middle of your animation (quicker), or a the end of your animation (to lure him to strike before you hit). I've killed a lot of people in one vs one using this technique, because it's unpredictable to people who don't play this weapon regularly.
Thirdly, in 2 vs 1 (where you have the numerical advantage), try to side step. The goal of most 2 vs 1 is to have one people in front of the ennemy, and the other guy needs to go behind. However, you expose your back yourself while doing that. However, the spearman can tickle the ennemy by only being on the right or the left. So you can 2 vs 1 without the need to watch your back. Try to be the second man. That means you need to attack AFTER your ally, not at the same time. Therefore, the ennemy can't retaliate.
Fourhtly, try to choose your opponent. "Huh? What? Choose your opponent? But if the ennemy is in front of me, then I can't escape and need to fight, right?" On one hand, what in the hell where you thinking by 1 vs 1 someone, whatever your class? (In duel, it's another thing). On the other hand, you have mobility. Use it! Your special attack is the fastest charge in the game. Use it on ennemies that don't see you or don't think you will attack them, and then escape in a second.
Fithly, it seems that only a few people have understand how chivalry works in 20 vs 20 or 32 vs 32. You win by killing two opponents in 2 vs 1, not by 1 vs 1. It is not chivalry, but it is medieval warfare! And how can you do that? Go around. Like, go to the sides and then back to the middle. Do circles. When you are behind ennemy line, try to spot lone groups of 2 or 3 already fighting. Just charge with your special attack in this group. You will do massive damages to the first one (probably killing him) + you will create numerical advantage + you are already behind them, perfect for numerical advantage!
There are other tips, but I think it's already too long. ;)
TL:DR : The role of the Two-Handed Spear is to create opportunity to 2 vs 1 by either playing on the sides of a duel, or charging behind the ennemy. This thing can be done with other classes, but the Two-Handed Spear is unrivalled at this thanks to his special charge attack. Just do circles by entering gaps in ennemy lines, charge behind them, try to make some damages before quickly going back behind your lines. By doing this technique, you can also protect your own archers or attack ennemy archers.
That's it folks. Every weapon has its charm, and can be used efficiently against any ennemy. The Two-Handed Spear was my favorite weapon for the beta (more 20 hours on it), because nobody expected the speed I could choose. Either play it slow, or fast.
(And because it seems to be the "main factor" for most people ; yes, you can be duke or prince by playing Two-Handed Spear. You do not need to play the messer.)
Appreciate the indepth view on this. I dont think the spear is incapable of doing exceptional, but rather ive put it where it is in D tier because when the spear isnt working, it really isnt working. It can do exceptional at certain aspects of TO but its incredibly poor beyond that. Its still usable and its still capable of being good, but that isnt what id judge as a good weapon.
I can only confirm that the spear is a damn annoying thing. The last thing to expect from common sense is that a long weapon won't have any problems at hug range. In fact, ultra close range only helps to use the speed and nasty hit animations. Nine fucking years have passed, nothing has changed, the developers did not even try to fix something, everything looks great from their side.

Well said. The Spear is downright oppressive in team fights too, where its massive reach allows you to harass enemies unchallenged.

I am new to this game but i also instantly placed Messer, Sword, and Longsword as S within an hour of the beta
I love using Longsword just cause it really hits the spot for this game. I respect anyone i fight who uses a Longsword and tend to get the same back. Messer and Sword sometimes feel cheesy, but LS is perfection.

Yo this is very helpful. Not so much the tier list itself, but the explanation of the weapons. I’m not an experienced chivalry player by any means but I catch on quick. Been dropping 60 kills consistently with the long sword and Mercer and kept telling my buddy something was clicking with those two weapons. Keep it up!
I literally dominate every game when I use a two handed spear. The key is too not focus on mixing, counters, or ripostes. I'm not saying don't do those. But what I will say is to focus on something nobody ever does.... SPACING. If you use a spear than use the REACH of a spear to your advantage. Backpedal backpedal backpedal make them charge you and evade to the side and get past their defenses. Throw it at them when they run away. And that special move with the THS is so good at throwing people off and getting cheap kills.
Now one handed spears? Absolutely trash. Low damage. Reach of a one handed weapon. Defeats the purpose of it being a spear.
That Messer overhead always seems to be appearing on my cause of death.

Thank you, I have always wanted to make videos. I have a bit too much standard and lack of motivation to follow through most of the time. I love this game more than any other game before it, despite its issues, and thats a huge push for me to actually get stuff out the door.

No no, your first instinct was correct. He may be very skilled at the game, but he was wrong in most of his assessments. Also keep in mind this guy played like 400 hours of this game. We are only seeing his better moments cherry picked from that.

Its not unusuably bad, almost no weapon on this list is. Its got a ton of flaws that will be exploited in the future due to lack of mixups.

@@Ziggylata Doesn't the Alt LMB attack count as an LMB attack for the two-handed spear? It's a swing.
He is just being biased. The two handed spear is great. With the spear you just need to stay out of range so that their counter stabs do not work. Then feint some stabs so when they try to counter stab you, stab them for real right in the head. You can effectively make people forget they even have horizontal swings sometimes when you force them to play at the edge of their weapon's reach...and if they DO get in close, remember that you have TWO weapons in this game...just switch to a one handed sword or something.
He also needs to consider how great it is when you are not dueling and are fighting in a crowd. Being able to safely and repeatedly stab at the enemy between your allies without hitting them is something I wish more weapons were able to do viably. Not to even mention how great the charge attack is!
@@Meryle25 that’s not really bias, the spear can be either really good or really bad. Mostly bad I’m the average players hands, I went negative my first few times using it because unfortunately it isn’t as balanced as other weapons not even the range makes up for it tbh. I love spears in other games but in this game it is underwhelming. So many times I’ve rushed people with spears and they don’t know what to do since they can’t poke at me from a far and it takes too long to swing

Hey great video, thanks for the time and effort put in! I wanted to ask your opinion on javelins/throwing axes if you have one. Personally I thought the recovery after a throw takes so long. For an archer class shouldn’t it perhaps be a little faster? Especially for something as tiny as the throwing axe... just my thoughts! Thanks again ✌🏻
Archery, including javelins and throwing axes, are incredibly overtuned. I do not think it needs any improvements, the throw should be risky because of how much damage and stamina damage you can force someone to take. I think the recovery is justified.

No, when using fists, none of your attacks flinch except your special attack.

I know I am pretty late and things may have changed. But this is giving me a insight on how to use some of these weapons. Thank you for the time you put into this. Thank god this guy understand the mashing problem with one handed weapons in this game, bc it literally just invalidates other weapons, just make the combat unfun when there are so few counter plays to literally just pressing the same button, lame af
I find it more frustrating with the two handed weapons that two shot me after my teammates hit me a how many points.
They just need to remove counters from the game. Counter spamming with a one handed weapon is just plain boring and annoying.

mate, that was a fantastic rewiev, great job i could say and you are a good player too.. although my main problem is your health calculation, math is right but when u look at you tier list S tier goes to swords, axes and hammers to kill those chars already, soo i think its alright if the calculations don't go the same with swords and bows..
You have got some moves in duel! Did you made changes in your key bindings? And how do you do this "snake" feint with the Messer? It's a block to slash or a slash feint to a alt slash?
Very informative video and suuuper useful but gotta say, even with the heavy beating you laid down on my off-with-their-heads axe I still love it with all my heart ♥️ definitely could use a buff though like damn.

I think you're onto something with the messer because the first time I used it I was glued to 1st place in the lobby, then I got team switched, stabilized the other team and became king and proceeded to slay my old team recklessly. But apart from the messer, the Halberd so far has been my go to. Idk how good I am, I do pretty well, but most of the info in this vid for example is news to me. I just collect little tricks that I know work and string them together in a quick plan, they tend to work 80 percent of the time. Nothing in this vid made me understand why, but I love the halberd, and I often don't even consider the range in duel situations. I use it a lot in team games, but in duels I just treat it like a big sword and that works fine. I'm more focused on landing jabs and kicks for free hits. Maybe it works because people are confused or underestimate me for making a bad choice. Idk lol
Dagger def needs a buff. Or an adjustment.
Maybe less stab dmg but bleed damage to compensate. That way when you’re out of range they’re still ticking with damage

In my opinion bonus to the great sword for grabbing part way up the sword on a stab that’s a real technique for fighting an armored opponent it’s a style called half-swording

Wow, thank you for this guide. I had a ton of fun playing open beta and will most likely buy this. But I wanted to thank you most for the class health portion. I can't believe that. Opened my eyes lol.
If this changes on release though, please update us! In the mean time I will switch to vanguard lol. And I actually enjoyed shield/spear. What is the downside to using a shield? Both the normal and heavy guardian one, btw?

The downsides to shield are that it has durability and you have a movement speed penalty. It doesnt matter how hard you try, unless youre countering every attack in the game, the shield will break and you will be stunned when it does, giving the other person a free hit if they capitalize on that stun.

My keybinds are default, save for swapping Special Attack and Attack Cancel.

why are shields bad? i’m new trying to rlly get into this game, and why do you crouch during combat does it help in any way?
I think with large weapons you can dodge a slash with a crouch, then I see him use it to also get a good stab angle in
I think is because if he crouch he mostly follow up with an overhead. So if you crouch you can hit overhead faster.

This is the greatest chivalry video on youtube. Im new to the game and these types of games in general. I've been trying to main Footman Polearm long weapons and I thought I was going crazy that it says repost but someone gets to attack me twice before I barely swing. Thank you thank you thank you for your clear expectations and for putting this video out.
Edit: OMFG I mained the 2h spear during whole beta and most of the first few days.. I just thought I was bad. Caveat: I am not good.

is there anywhere a compariosn of windup, release and recovery for each weapon? i cant figure out whether dane axe or messer is faster, since in the description it says the dane axe has faster windup, recovery and stuff but its an axe so it must be slower than a sword.
There is so much depth to this game. Weapons are all amazing in theyre own way but the subclasses as well. All shine at something and i find myself toggling between several classes and subclasses.
A lot more depth than people think, but I think its being muddied up by the games problems.
I think the game released too early, frankly.
It feels like the dane axe as primary and messer as secondary on raider would be a pretty optimal combination.
If you treat the dane axe as a semi-throwable weapon as it's really good at that while you have a top tier backup weapon with the messer AKA your true main weapon until you get the chance to pick up the axe again.
I normally feel almost repulsed by the idea of picking swords _(when there's options)_ because of how standard and boring it feels to me but the messer caught my attention when I was looking through customization opinions just based on appearance and gut feeling because it doesn't really look like a boring old sword.
But I have to admit that the "anti-normal" in me was a little bit disappointed by how it topped the list and therefore it will be popular and frequently used so it won't be "my pick" anymore but just one in the crowd.
That alone might be enough to push me more towards other good weapons that caught my attention initially like the pole hammer, poleaxe or glaive but seeing that the shovel is perfectly viable makes me very tempted to main that as it's fairly unique and funny in the way that it's not typically seen as a serious weapon.
However regarding the class health "issue" i believe that you're just wrong or atleast not looking at it the right way.
It's definitely purposefully designed in such a way that axes and blunt weapons act as counters to the heavier classes because it kinda mirrors the purpose of those weapons in real life and like real life motivates a variation in weapons and armor. However I kinda feel like footmen shouldn't be the underdog who take the highest % damage in both cases so there's atleast one weakness specific to knights so i think blunt should be the natural fit for that role and give it a even higher damage bonus to knights or possibly lower bonus to footmen and higher base damage to balance it out one way or another.
You know because the whole health thing should mostly be viewed as a measurement of the armor they're wearing so swords doesn't kill a man wearing full steel armor as well as it does if they're wearing chain/hide/cloth armor but full steel are vulnerable to being buckled in or pierced by blunt damage that softer armor is a better fit against. So that obviously explains why the "weakest" class isn't a man who just dies more easily than his sturdier allies for no good reason but meant to more accurately reflect and balance the pros and cons of weapon types and armor types rather than the idea that some people simply stay alive longer.
I get the armor type idea, and it makes sense, shouldn't this be reflected on arrows as well though? A fully plated knight should have a debuf on arrow damage. It feels there isn't a reason to be penalized on speed by playing as a knight when you don't really have any HP advantage
