Nice video! Btw, my girlfriend saw your ring on your finger and said that you should get it enlarged, because it can be dangerous. She is a doctor and cares for your health, she made me write this comment, cheers!
If you consider the 'basic' edition $55 or so bucks per book (based on currency) is pretty reasonable for tomes of impeccable construction. The deluxe is a commitment, maybe tilted to the hardcore such as myself, but it is damn nice - speaking from owning it. From a utility perspective, you are looking at months of play so the value is there.
This looks so amazing. I'd love to play this someday. There are so many interesting takes on magic and mythologically inspired dream-like strangeness. So many great mechanical ideas too. And the tie in to semi-familiar historical events and places is yum! I love your breakdown of it all, well done. On an unrelated sidenote, I am a jeweller and I need to warn you that your wedding band is too small and causing circulatory issues in your ring finger. This on it's own isn't great, but if it gets worse, and your nad gets even tighter, you could easily loose your finger. I highly recommend having it resized a bit. You can DM me if you have any questions.
Hey man, you need to be careful about that ring. It looks to me like one of the five accursed treasures of Bel-Sharazni, long thought happily lost in the depths of Kulkarna. Wearing it over time could lead to your body dropping off and only leaving your now-sentient finger behind to continue your life. Take it from me you don't want that to happen as it makes typing a long and laborious affair.
surprised to see my old dm's name pop up on the channel! this guy is responsible for getting me into the osr. he ran a great game, I'll have to go check out the book
Looks interesting, but wow did I open up a can of worms posting about a Flame Princess game on Discord. I didn’t realize all of the drama with this setting.
LotFP material is often very artistic and experimental. It's also often transgressive, and many of the people involved with different adventures are very divisive. It's often difficult to discuss an adventure without someone bringing up a different adventure or a different author and how much they hate it/them and you should hate it/them too. All nuance is lost because the guys on Discord want to score their political points and pile on. I think that's a shame, because LotFP put out consistently high quality books (like these) and treat the authors and artists well - for example, through profit-sharing. If you don't like a particular author (a common complaint) then don't buy the books they wrote and they receive none of your support.
@@ja9146 this is one way to bury the lede. the CORE lotfp rulebook has a spell that instructs the players to roleplay either mutilating other's genitals or forcing themselves on them and rolling to see if conception happens (this is a possible result of the summon spell). I don't think "all nuance is lost" when trying to warn people that this game comes with some situations that most would not be comfortable with, especially since this is a social hobby we enjoy. Making people uncomfortable at the table is one thing and can be fun if everyone is on board for that, but if you want to talk about a lack of nuance, look no further than a spell that can randomly result in pointing at a random player and instructing the other players to commit sexual violence on them.
@@RefrodnalfI'm gonna have to reread my copy of the core rules because I don't remember reading about that spell. Now that does not mean I don't believe you, I've read Raggi's books like Carcosa, Vaginas Are Magic, and Eldritch Cock, which are full of transgressive stuff, but I am just drawing a blank on those spells. But yes LotFP is not for everyone, and as a fan, there are things in some of the books that I would not run at my table because I find them distasteful. But I know Raggi. Weird but good guy overall who's seen and been in the darkest places a person can go and I'm not surprised it's come out in his work or work he has within LotFP.
@@RefrodnalfThis always gets brought up and it’s one sub-sub-section of one spell description. It could not be easier to leave out of your game if it bothers you. LotFP’s referee’s guide has a very considerate and thoughtful safety tools section. They’re not trying to trick you into this stuff.
Two things: Do the inhabitants of Otterworld use their noodle while doing the Noodle Dance? If the aliens are from the fifth dimension, they should travel in a beautiful, a beautiful balloooooon.
Yes. The poster maps are exclusive to the slipcase edition but the regional and disastrum maps are in the endpapers of the books in the standard edition.
This is like William Vollman's Seven Dreams series by way of Caves of Qud. I'm not even a ttrpg enjoyer and I may be picking this up. Thanks for the coverage!
Very much work went into this product. But is this a setting many people are interested in? I gotta say maybe because im European its hard for me to commect with this setting
Due to my job and family time I can’t get a group so I solitaire RPG. Please tell me this is possible with this because it looks freakin awesome. Thanks.
I would recommend PbP if you have problems with schedules. It is basically the only way I get to play TRPGs nowadays. It may be a little different from regular table play but it is definitely worth it if you get used to it, and most people run OSRs, DnD 5e and Pathfinder 1&2 (there are people running other systems, but those are the big three that get a lot of games).
Have you tried Mythic Game Master Emulator 2nd Edition? You can use it to solo any RPG. It looks complicated at first but you can just use the basic rules from it and add the rest as you play.
9:55 It's been dormant (not being taught) for a while, but the Monacan language has been revitalized for a while now. For example the Tutelo-Saponi Monacan Living Dictionary has been promoting the Monacan Indian Nation in Virginia. Thomas Jefferson of all people recorded and paid for the recording of a bunch of languages in and around Virginia. Curious how else the LoFL treat/depict Indigenous folks. Like the land bridge as only migration theory is quite outdated at this point, but folks seem to be really attached for some reason... Good review though. Thanks for going through it. Definitely not able to buy it.
Great video! Have you ever actually reviewed LOTFP? I've heard you mention it many times but I searched your channel and couldn't find a video about it. I'm curious why you name drop it so often in your videos.
I have tended to stay away from LotFP due to its setting being something I don't feel like I can convey very well to players. But this could be the gateway product for me. Just brilliant.
I use the European setting as simply a pedagogical way of quickly understanding the setting, so that I can translate it to my usual fantasy content. LotFP is such good stuff. Look at "Better than any Man", or anything Raggi is directly involved in.
Oh, dear Flame Princess, the redheaded goth child that refuses to grow up. The rules need a specific story vibe to run as written, and the adventures I'd censor quite heavily for my table - the authors are free to write whatever they want, and the GMs are free to change whatever they want. That said, the few books I own are the treasures of my small collection, just because of how good, and weird, the physical books are.
This campaign is surprisingly close to my homebrew one. However, a few details directly contradict stuff I've written so it would take a bit of work to use it

Haha, commenters keep telling me that, but contrary to appearances it isn't very tight and comes off quite easily.
132€ for standard and 302€ for the slipcase is certainly not trivial
