Thanks for posting this! I was born in Detroit and raised just outside of the City Limits and Im 1/2 Mexican and 1/2 white-german. I love the city and I am helping to do my part to restore it :)
Im glad to see something being done in detroit I left years ago. My mom still lives in highland park and was robbed at gunpoint a few years back I am just happy she is ok. Makes me want to go back and do something positive....
Detroit's problems stem from the city placing all of it's eggs in one basket (the auto industry) and the institutional racism that eventually led to the Blind Pig riots. As a frequent visitor who's fallen in love with the city, this documentary catches the Detroit that I know and love.
Also, don't forget Shirley Franklin, Atlanta's former mayor. Her policies during the fake boom of the early 2000's helped the city survive the reckoning that occured.
@joeyinny Well said, but keep in mind that people flock to money. With these entrepreneurs and their businesses, money will be made. And when that money comes, so will the schools.
@DONNIMETROPOLIS313 My point is that saying "you don't see as many black people at sporting events than white" (@jayjayjames2332) doesn't mean that the city isn't for the most part African American, and @coty734 for the most part was correct in his statements. 81% is an overwhelming majority.
@DONNIMETROPOLIS313 The point was to refute the statement that Detroit is not predominantly black, when statistics demonstrate the clear African American majority in the Motor City. Also, I would like to point out, citing attendance at sporting events as proof of a light black presence in a city is generally fallacious, considering the mass poverty amongst the African American community.
@eyeAMtwinkEE # 1 i still cant see whats the point unless youre addressing some jerk comments, It never said in the clip that Detroit was not predominantly Black, Also, I would like to point out, although poverty is an issue for sure, everyone living here by far is not living in abject poverty. sporting events arent they only place in Detroit that you find white people. The city was just listed among americas top 10 Downtowns & Forbes Magazine just wrote an article praising whats going on here
@DKMAN86 im sure if i looked up acts from detroit i could find 20+ in a couple minutes that's not the poit dude the point is to show how much the city has emptied and the potential for new development so you didn't get a shoutout for your favourite detroit band... shut up that is completely beside the point
@coty734 And you have never been. I see more whites in downtown Detroit than blacks. Just look at photos of Lions, Tigers, and Red Wing games. You're ignorant.

@coty734 The outskirts of Detroit offer no reason to go though. Do you travel to Boston, Las Vegas, etc. to walk around the outskirts of downtown?

The most bizzare building in Detroit has to be the Michigan Theatre.
