- In this video I give a quick overview of the features and show the long term wear of The North Face Rolling Thunder 22 and 30. We have had the 22's since 2019, one of the 30's since early 2022 and the other 30 since early 2023. We've used these on nearly every trip we've been on (which has been at least 2 international per year along with several domestic trips).

Purchased the 22 for a recent trip and it was a fantastic carry on. I decided to purchase a checked bag for the trip home to ship some items that were not checkable. I ended up finding a North Face store and purchased the 28. There was quite a bit of rain during the travel, but when I returned home many of my interior items were quite wet. Curious if you have had any issues with water problems during your travels?
That’s unfortunate, there is only one time I can recall us getting the smaller bags fairly wet and we didn’t have any water intrusion issues. We haven’t had the larger ones out in the rain for any extended periods of time that I can think of. They’re supposed to hold up in wet conditions, I would maybe test it again while not traveling and see if you can spot the source?
Do you know what the internal length is on the 30" bag? Thanks!
It’s approximately 28” x 15” on the inside
appreciate the quick reply, thanks for the info!@@RoamTwo
Good info
If the model 30 is used only for check in luggage, the zippers and the materials seem not so sturdy and secure enough!?
It’s true, the 30’s in the video haven’t been in use very long and the materials are already scuffed up. I haven’t had the zippers or material fail yet but time will tell as I continue to check them. I can’t imagine that they’re going to last for life.
@@RoamTwo how is it performing by now ?
They’re still holding up. No major issues.
Do you still know the color name of the 22“? Thanks
Looks like it was called Taupe Green/Tropical Camo. We actually got them on clearance at REI, still shows up on REI but is no longer available there.
@@RoamTwothank you very much! Yeah Rei was the only one I found and as you said, sold out ;)
Regards
The issue you speak of at 5.30 is terrible. Mine the same. Massive flaw. WTF. It's cutting through my bag now as it pops out everytime.
It really is bad. I’m having that problem in the larger bags but not the smaller ones.
Hello Is 22 carry on ?
Yes the 22 can be used as a carry on, you will have to check dimensions requirements on your specific plane. I have used it as a carry on and stored it overhead on larger planes.
Could you fit a couple 74cm long light stands in this?
Just measured this. You could probably force it but it would be a tight fit. If you have the option, take the light stand to a store that has one and try it. The 74cm measurement looks like it would work better diagonally than straight up and down in the bag.
Not sure pal.
Thank youu
Thanks for watching!
This bag is terrible, I know there is a newer model out that hopefully fixed the current flaws.
The voyager roller? In person they seem even flimsier, but maybe I’ll have to try one. Our smaller rolling thunders have still been great but the bigger ones are struggling.
The bigger rolling thunders are a nightmare. For starters they are way too heavy for what they are, always over 20kilos when packed out. The steel bars and just general wear and tear.
