Complete restoration of a rusty Honda engine. Can I rescue it to a perfect running condition? Thank you to my Patrons / daggerwin Music by Epidemic Sound
Way too red and smooth rust for only being exposed weather, clean not tarnish sparkplug wire, clean airfilter, clean oil, no sludge in carb, Shiny zinc bolt. More like decent motor removed from paint and sprayed with vinegar and get rusted fast.
Never a doubt it would start and run. Those engines, like the Briggs, are pretty much bullet proof. Very nice restoration. Looks like it came directly off the Honda assembly line.
@@henrycole6399 also excellent parts availability/support, with some small engines their catalogue of replacement parts has basically one item: "engine"
The sandblasting and painting are my favorite parts of the restoration videos. I love seeing the entire process. I have seen tons of engine assemblies. The restoration part is what makes them interesting.
Spectacular job and smashing results! Honda engines really are bulletproof, to a degree. The fact that, even with water in the cylinder, it wasn't rusted is mind boggling but definitely a blessing.
It's not just the petrol tank that really does 'look like new' dude. The whole thing looks like it's out of a box. Top job 👏👏👏, again 👉👉👉. And thanks for a great Friday night's viewing before I hit my Night shift. I've said it before, so have others, and we'll all say it again - YOU are the key ingredient in this channel. Your voice, manner and approach are super-calming. Probably wouldn't matter if you were talking about slicing a melon. It's still be fab to see and hear. Thanks man 🙏. 😎
Thank you for: Awesome ASMR tool and mechanical work with no hideous music soundtrack blaring. Minimal but concise narration. Actually saying things like- "needs to be cleaned" instead of the simply horrendous- "needs cleaned" kind of thing that is sadly becoming a mainstay of modern day illiteracy...
Good morning 🌞 from Petersburg Virginia.... Great 💯 content Sir..veen following you for years now and never fails that u honor the viewers requests 😊...
Always enjoy your videos, lovely job on this engine, you and TH-camr Mustie1 are my favorite mechanics for engine repairs and the like (give his channel a try if you've not heard of it, he really knows his engines - he doesn't restore them like you do but he gets even the most rusty engine working reliably). Out of interest, was that engine just as rusty when you first stored it outside or has the bulk of the rust occurred since it was put outside? It's of course tough to keep things dry if you don't have a suitable storage shed and covering them with a tarp of similar when outside just means that damp still accumulates (but it at least stops rain entering via the air filter, etc)..
@@AJRestoration Great to hear. I discovered Mustie1 a few years ago - not only is he first class at repairing engines (and other things) but he's such a nice and often funny guy who also makes his audience feel included due to the way he talks to the camera as he is working. I sometimes wish he would restore engines (as beautifully seen in this video for example) but he seems to mainly prefer the actual diagnostic and repair process, and that's fine.
@@Spudchucker92 That's a fair approach - one of not wanting to somehow support someone that holds an opinion offensive to us. Personally if I stopped watching every YTer or Hollywood star I disagreed with, at least half my playlist will be gone. So as long as they don't bring politics, religion, ideology forcibly into their art / videos, it doesn't bother me. Just my take.
Me too. I save the videos if there in a series, then I watch them all at the same time. This one I'm about to delete since it's been well over a month since pt. 1.
Is it possible we are going to see more classic westwood restorations and just fixing them up , ive started my atempt to buy a couple and restoee them bc of ur old videos on them I love them now
it would be nice to see the young bucks getting into projects like these , you can find engines like this at your local scrap yard and they will usually sell them to you for about $10 or in the case of my local yard they just give them away to restorers . you dont need fancy tools a cheap socket set, sand paper. a $20 gasket kit, some spray paint. a few days cleaning and just like that you can sell the engine for around $100. i did this when i was too young to work a job and i made loads of money. it paid for my bike when i was 13 and later my 1st car. you learn a lot of great skills along the way as well. you young fellas have no excuse you have the internet these days to hold your hand. i had to read scraps of paper covered in oil to learn lol.
if you want to know how to sell the engines after you fixed them here is what i did. here in the USA during the summer people have yard sales i would go to the person having the yard sale and ask them if they could sell my engines as well . and i would offer them $5 per sale. i dont think i was ever turned down. that was me 13 years old hauling a bunch of engines around in a wagon. everyone in my neighborhood eventually had a rebuilt engine on their mowers and i had a hot rod 77 cutlass when i was 16 that my dad was jealous of lol
Nice restoration and appreciate your addition of using the torque wrench. It's never a waste of time to rehone the hatch marks in the cylinder wall even if you're piston end gaps are perfect.
These little agri Honda engines are great. Incredibly easily to rebuild and repair parts readily available Simple but efficient design Durable Cheap It’s no wonder they get 1:1 cloned so much
Home Garage is good for the basics. Learn to fix carburetors on Briggs flathead engine mowers (they have the air filter box shaped like an arrow pointing backwards). These are common now in kerbside cleanups and are a good starting point.
I don’t like to be a negative Ned and I know this is not an instructional video but a few things I picked up on. - cam - crank timing is off Actually piston is not even connected in that shot. - flywheel torque If your gonna torque the valve cover…. Torque the thing that spins 60 times a second. It’s a pain to hold the crank, I know but it can be done. - it’s missing the low oil sensor. Don’t knock it over while it’s running. - I think in the final “running” shots the choke is on…. Right? If so, carb needs more work… or throw it away and buy a new one for $12 I’m a fan of resto vids but parts for this engine are like $1 each. First vid I’ve seen on this channel though. I’ll check it out and maybe not be so critical on all the stuff I’m not an expert on 😆 I’ll sub.
Always love your videos and really lookforward to new ones , however something seems a bit fishy here never in all my years seen rust so even almost like a sorayed rusting agent ?i do hope im wrong
Nice job. It makes a change to see a torque wrench used correctly, instead of click, click, click just to make sure one click is correct! Any more is over torque.
Nice job 👍🏻 on that rebuild… Honda is a very good engine have a pressure washer and a few lawnmowers as well… still briggs and Stratton are my very best…
The water in the cylinder must have been rather fresh. Those cast iron cylinder sleeves get flash rust rather quicky. You are lucky.
"Great video" is nicer
Agree! Rain water can be pretty pure (i.e., non-acidic) and the sleeves are somewhat air-tight. That's probably what saved them.
I wonder if there was water in the muffler the leaked in when he turned the engine upright because it was on its side
Oil is another possibility
Way too red and smooth rust for only being exposed weather, clean not tarnish sparkplug wire, clean airfilter, clean oil, no sludge in carb, Shiny zinc bolt. More like decent motor removed from paint and sprayed with vinegar and get rusted fast.
Never a doubt it would start and run. Those engines, like the Briggs, are pretty much bullet proof. Very nice restoration. Looks like it came directly off the Honda assembly line.
Agree, this is beautiful work as usual. Honda is IMO the best small engine manufacturer in the world.
It's also kind of refreshing to see him restore or repair something that isn't a B&S.

Meanwhile in Dagwin's kitchen there are shouts of "who's taken the kitchen roll"
Always interesting, especially when it comes from your own personal scrap yard.
восстановить такой ржавый корпус и снова покрасить, самый правильный подход к реставрации. лайк.

everything inside was mint cond . I was surprised .That primer coat looks really nice.
Love the sound of it when it kicked over for a few seconds when you sprayed the carb cleaner in the carb💪👍👌
Your channel shouldn't be named machinery restorer it should be MASTER MACHINERY RESTORER.
I like your videos, I think you are the only one who tears apart a machine. Then restores it back. Best of luck. I really enjoy what you do. Thank you
I like it when you finish a mower. And take it to what I call, the proving grounds
That's a nice looking pump engine, and it turned out like a treat.
Great restore the Honda engine is bulletproof it looks brand new
Regards

That was an excellent restoration on a classic Honda engine, love the sound of those, they always are so reliable. Keep up the great work😃👍
Good hone job! You're one of the few to get that right I've seen on youtube.
Great video! Awesome job on restoring the Honda motor. i Love watching your videos! :)
Realy enjoying to see you repairing and restoring again!
I love your videos and its so good to hear you speak

Stainless steel bolts are a good sign. Shows pride and effort into something. Always find it more appealing
Mmmmmmm, forbidden raspberry jam. I bet it would have run just fine as long as you got the water out of the bore.
Assembly Jam is a missed opportunity in marketing.
Looks and runs like a new one 👍🏻
We'll done Man. That runs awesome by the way to.
Very nicely done, sir!!!
Honing the bore is also satisfying to watch 10:17
Very nice resurrection there mate, well done 👍
It's been a long time coming, but welcome back, so I can see your next restoration..
Excellent work as always
Very very nice! Another excellent restoration and video.
What a fantastic job !!
Excellent restoration job, the Honda engine is like new!
Beautiful restoration mister well done
Absolutely brilliant job, well done 👍
Didn’t know you had this channel. Love it!
Looks brand new lovely job
What a excellent video, watching a professional at work 👏 👌 👍
Well done! Looks new!

Wow man you are awesome the amount of work that goes into your vid’s is incredible and does not go unnoticed! Great job man seriously you’re a beast!

Great restoration on a great motor.

Meh. I watched Mustie up until I discovered he’s a far-right Trump supporter. Not watched him ever since.

Well done! One pull!
Nice job, from a boat anchor to something useful. Looking forward to another B&S restoration.
BS Restoration is a good term for it.
I like the way you say carburetor. Great video!
Nice job👍🏻
I have the same engine on my digger, it works all day on very little fuel. Good engines!
Love theses videos will this be returning for the Christmas special?
Great Video 👍
Well done!
Nice job
Would love to see the powder coat set up you have, tidy job 👌🏻
Jolie travail
I love watching these videos, find them so interesting. Is there any other videos where I can learn more the basics as half of this goes over my head?

Good afternoon from southeast asia!
Do you sell these or just doing it for fun, I cant imagine the cost for a full restoration tractor

This man is over here using an AMAZONBASICS torque wrench!
I don't have much room to talk tho. Most of our tools are Harbor Freight specials😅😅
Looks like a brand new engine!
Nice beautiful job, but, I thought you powder coated those bolts on the recoil cover...
Great video, nicely restored. May I ask what is that blue cleaning agent used to clean the piston and crankcase?
Great video and microphone quality. What are you using for recording?
Wow you could make a great deal of money rescuing used Honda engines. Amazingly that looks right off the assembly line. 😊
You make it look like you do all of this in one day!
No, it takes several days to 'age' an engine like that.
Nice job 👍🏻 on that rebuild… Honda is a very good engine have a pressure washer and a few lawnmowers as well… still briggs and Stratton are my very best…
I get severe dissociation from seeing actual real life footage and hearing your voice.
omg i've just worked out you're daggerwin!
I am just curious on the powder coating
Is there any special paint required and how to electrify the pieces.
You stop the engine by shutting off the fuel, NOT the switch. This prevent the gas from gumming up the carburetor.
Excellent.
Litle question where do you even keep your restored lawnmowers and do you stil have your old allen champion mower?
Sandblasting 😅 I love it, don't leave it out 🤦♂️
Excellent 👌💎🌟
Brilliant
Smooth move.coz 1; the honda deserves it. And 2; the Briggs can take the wait
As always great video. This might be an obvious answer question but i will ask it anyways. What it the media you use in the soda blaster ? TIA
Never used assembly lube on cylinders. Always went with straight 30W.
Good job i like it❤
You have any idea where this engine was originally from???? Like what machine? Mower?
