I believe Christina was less popular because people thought Britney was more attractive in the same way Ben Afleck is more popular than Matt Damon even though Matt is more talented. Great list. 21 pilots has good stuff. I'm glad cold play was on there. I've listened to them since I was a teen. Zayn Malek's whole song and video 😲

    There are a quite a few people that could stand to open their mind to other musical genres.
    To me there isn't a bad genre of type of music. There are good examples of every genre, just like every genre has songs that suck. It's been that way since the dawn of music. It's just that now more people are exposed to more different types of music since Radio stations and MTV don't have a stranglehold on what songs people here. Music streaming services treat artists like crap, but man if you try at least a little you can be exposed to so much different music.
    A lot of people seem to dislike anything that came out after they turned 18 and they want everything to be the music they heard as a teenager.

      I’m going to respond to you because I just think music is not that great now or the years covered in this video. My mind is open I’m a music lover. I even love some classical music. I can find something in any genre to like and give credit where credit is due. This series of videos didn’t do anything for me. As I said some great singers but the quality of the music wasn’t to my liking.

    This was so interesting! Something I never realized; during that decade, pop and rock a bit of techno and reggaeton, ruled. I only knew about half these songs because of streaming my own playlists most of the time. Rap and R&B really fell off the charts during this time or it was kind of incorporated into the pop sound.

  • @fredgeorge5858
    @fredgeorge5858 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Liked some of the songs. Autotune and compression really do make this decade sound the same. I also think streaming services also hurt the diversity. I grew up with AM/FM radio in the car, HiFi stereo in the house and headphones. I preferred studio albums over live albums. however, today's technology has worked for remastering live music. Not so much on studio albums. much of the music before autotune and todays compression had a lot better sound quality, more expression and better singers overall. There are still standouts in todays music but it is more homogenized. l am a radio fan, the music was played was broad in scope and there were plenty of channels. Easy to find new genres and bands. Now I only have my computer. I have to pick what to play which limits any surprises.

    I thought this list was pretty good even if I only knew about 75%. Stromae really surprised me getting on it, but Kesha needed to be on here somehow. And as much as some people are going to do the "Back in my day we had good music" thing all you need to do is hear Lana Del Rey doing her thing, listen to Adele's 21, then see the production madness Kanye created with All of the Lights. Also, genres being invented/brought out by people like Skrillex, Marshmello, and Sophie (RIP.) the same way other times had their style.

      I was in rock bands in college and did take music history courses which perhaps informs my opinion regarding the over produced, auto-tuned, and vapid bubblegum pop music not being what I would include on any Top of musical list. Just my 2 cents, though.
      As a book lover, I imagine you might take umbrage with a list of Top 100 authors of the 20th century list that included Danielle Steele, Dan Brown, Stan and Jan Berenstain, Edward Stratemeyerand, and others but leaves off authors like Gabriel García Márquez, Hemingway, Hesse, Vonnegut, Kerouac, Toni Morrison, Steinbeck, etc.

      I’d argue it started to get better around 2019, and the 2020s so far imo have been pretty good.
      stan culture has pretty much ruined the charts, so you have to put a bit more effort in to find stuff you like rather than just listen to the radio or look at the top hits, but music has never been so accessible, meaning we have a lot more stuff to listen to than we used to by comparison. that and the internet has made it so artists can improve even faster than they used to be able to.
      idk maybe I’m just an optimist or whatever, but just bc some of the most streamed/played stuff (thanks to streaming farms and, like I said, stans) is kinda tired and unoriginal doesn’t mean there are NO original ideas nowadays. plus, I’ll bet plenty of older people said the same shit abt the 2000s era of music, shitting on stuff as you get older is kinda apart of the process.

    Yeah, not the best decade, but some songs I liked. I do like new stuff - I'm 68, for whatever value of 'new stuff' that gives. 😄 But not a rap or hiphop fan, mostly, except for occasional songs. 'Course, I don't like much jazz or plenty of 60s music, either. I could completely do without the Beatles, for instance. The lower songs on the list, mostly blecch. Several I like going up about midway through. More along the rest of the way. I'm bad at titles, though. I recognize by the tunes. I rarely identify by the performer or song title, unless it's someone with several songs I love, like Dannheim or Evanescence or Wumpscut. Then it's usually the performer.
    Plus now, I rarely listen to streaming. I wiped out on that in the early 2000s. Too much like radio. And top 40 or 100-style has always had too much of a muchness. Now I find something I like somewhere, like The Piano Guys with Alex Boye doing an African style Swahili cover of Coldplay's Paradise. (Look it up, it's magnificent. 'Peponi' should fnd it.) I track it down in the NewPipe app. After I grab it, then I keep clicking random songs by that artist, bounce around to others, and after an hour or so, have umpteen songs new to me. 😄 I did enjoy this, though. Managed to get some songs I'd heard and liked, but had no clue as to performer. Plus got some new to me. I did some chairdancing!

    I’m surprised not many KPop hits made it on.

    When Adele is done, she'll sound like she smoked 4 packs of pall malls her whole life. After she frogs those vocal chords on out
