  • Many times the producer from Karate Combat will ask me to do a workout session with a fighter who is on a card coming up. In this case, I was asked to train our middleweight champion Ross Levine who was going to face Igor DeCastaneda.
Igor (his opponent) was going to have a session with the powerful Hector Lombard.
I was very impressed with our Champion, because the stuff I show might look super easy, but it needs time to get used too, Ross did it super fast.
As you can see, I like to keep things simple but very effective, here I show how you can make a bunch of combinations with ONE simple combo
    Enjoy!

It is interesting watching a highly skilled performer having to struggle and come to terms with new movement sequences, new things really challenge the nervous system and are very humbling and snap you out of expert mode to being a student again. Someone like Ross Levine will finish this session not super satisfied and work on the new sequences by them selves over and over until he has them down, that is why and how these guys get so good. There is a lot of work to get this good a lot more than most people realize.

I started kickboxing a few months ago and almost every time my coach gives me a combination I manage to mess it up every few tries 😂

@@mamochhamlhaml9480 That is normal and to be expected, you have to keep working on the combinations and go slowly at first getting them right and gradually build up the speed. It is a process.

    In my utmost humble opinion.
“ Nothing more rewarding than getting ones thesis validated by those who exceeds oneself in excellence”
“ Fighting is relativity in motion, therefore never expect only respond as it one’s opponent within context that dictates tactics”
His ability to think tactically, is truly sublime, paired with the technical as well as physical attributes to match, makes him a beyond devastating warrior indeed.
A honor to be able to observe and learn from such a fellow peer as yourself Mr Rutten.
    Sincere regards.

Been dealing with the shoulder pinched nerve thing for a long time, what finally fixed it for me was bodyweight triceps extensions on a bar about chest height , it really helped opened up the shoulder enough for the nerve to release.

This Ross is really sharp. A lot of people who dont train dont realize how difficult it is to remember all those combo's. I've seen a lot of pad holders get clocked due to the student screwing up the sequence.

🎉Well there was that competition flyer, where they said : "Only Karate kicks can be used in the competition !"
I thought that was appealling , because in karate, I got the impression folks are taught to point their toes on the roundhouse kicks, which reduces the chances of a broken spine. And an appealing part of karate combat.
But, now Kickboxing is a lot more competitive right ?
I got caught out, down at a bar because they've learned how to do the hard , Thai Boxing roundhouse kicks around here.
They kick the pads in training. Or that is only how far I got !
So getting kicked hard in the thigh. That exposes the weaknesses of a Sumo guy.
I think Bas and me, need to learn to learn to kick stop. The hard thigh kick. Or attacks to the knees !
Bas needs to get his legs up.
In England. Kickboxing was something that went on in America.
Or in France. There was Boxing , but in Devon, England. There was underground Street Fighting always. This is where foreigners delight in beating us up !
And we try not to murder them ! Or even get angry generally.
This Middleweight Champion looks like he is Boxing at a higher level than went on in the 90s Bas !
I watched some French Kickboxing in the movie La Haine . So maybe mainstream legal Kickboxing is not so alien . But for me, I gave up Thai Boxing as I could not see a way yo do it without getting a broken leg !
With karate kicks, you point the toe at least . Bas is like : "Whoa!" When the guy forgets that !
Karate Combat is that nice, semi contact thing , with no blows to the head , right ?
    🎉

I always listen when you speak about the grappling part of what you do as a lot of it makes sense to me and I can use it for real life outside street. But I cannot use your striking, because my style of boxing has completely different rules to normal known boxing you see on TV today and taught in gyms... as I have mentioned before, My style of boxing is the CUS D'AMATO Catskills Gym style, taught to me by the students of Cus. But again... your wrestling, BJJ, grappling idea's really are most helpful and they work for me...

Bas you always say (1:25) you use this type of blocking + countering but i never saw you fighting or using it like that? Or is it really rare? What are the real blocks and counters, you are using in reality the most?
