Hi everyone! I’m calling on the hive mind here for some help. I’ve had a couple issues in certain videos with a flicker after render. I have tried multiple different codecs but don’t know enough about those details to know exactly what is going on. Is there someone out there with the knowledge to be able to help with this? The only odd thing I saw is the red line you drew in the beginning of the video showing the curve line was wobbling back and forth. Everything else looked great, watching on TH-cam via Chrome 720p on desktop.
Are there any framerate discrepancies between your source media and rendered output? Or perhaps you're rendering out with interlacing that's going screwy?
The only frustrating thing about this channel is that every time you upload these awesome quality 25+ minute videos, I'm left wanting to watch another hour or so of it. Great work guys, absolutely fascinating to watch.
@Clifton you have that right. Another great vid guys. You know, there has to be a "better" way to transfer the line from the lofting floor to the frame that does not use the nails... But I somehow doubt it would be as fun. (Van Halen's Jump is springing to mind :P)
This 'better' way would be ...? It's the step from two into three dimensions. I've learned to proceed said step some 33 years ago exactly the way Stephen and Alix (and Leo Sampson, by the way) do their transfer from loft to frame, and my teachers (three generations of boatbuilders in one yard ...) told me back then it was made like that "ever since". We tried other ways, put an episcope to work, put a beamer with "internal correction" to work in vertical or horizontal application, tried crossing vector lasers otherwise used to "burn" 3D forms from a tank of liquid resins and bored the hell out of a bunch of nerdy IT-students recurrently with our idea of "accurate" .... all with not the exact result the bloodily outdated roofing nail technique does still give You in terms of a correct sawline on Your frame off a wooden lofting floor.
Great shout out to Leo. What you are doing is so different from what he is doing, but you come to the same end. So many different skill set between the both of you. Have fun today, we are there in spirits.
Wow, just wow ! The work you two guys put in there is astounding. The molds construction was already something. Then, tearing your platform apart, building that huge "scafolding", and on and on... Simply amazing !

Sorry I cant help with the video issues. Despite your concern over a production flaw, your content and passion is compelling and in my opinion is living proof that TH-cam has great practical and historical merit.

How unbelievably exciting! Its amazing how quickly this has gone from a pile of wood and trees to now you have the shape of a boat. It won't be long until you are putting furniture in it and soon after, the finishing touches. Keep up the great work!

Golly! Now she's coming together with a whizz and a whack! Looks great and the final shape is revealed! It's interesting how the perception of size has changed. As a bare backbone she looked immensly heavy and long but now is showing her fineness and lines. Lovely job!
That she is, the feeling of the boathouse has changed a lot! She has taken over the space and it's wonderful to walk down her and see the lines change and flow.
Wow. It amazes me how quickly things start coming together once you're past a certain point. Now I know a lot of little things will be time-consuming but this must be very uplifting to see the boat take shape. Congratulations I am looking forward to Friday
Finally, a wooden boat building technique I would be really good at! I bet I could jump up and down on the mould laminates to imprint the nail head marks just as good as you “experts”...... yup. If you do this again give me a call!

I have to say, when I first came across this channel, there was more talk than action, and it was difficult to imagine how quickly things are falling into place now. Congrats guys
We are sure many feel the same way. The beginning was a lot of prep work that did not lend itself to interesting video so it was a lot of talking about the plan and what was to come and why we were doing what we were doing. Now all the prep is done and we can just build! =)

All I have to say is that it took a looooong time to get to this point. However, you are moving so much faster now! I surmise that you made very sure to have a solid foundation. I also imagine what is was like to put a craft like this together before power tools. Not to take anything away from your efforts. I have no doubt that you could do the same job with only hand tools. But I know you are glad not have to. Keep the videos coming. They are very enjoyable and a pleasure to watch as you share your journey with us all.
I thought the same about old style tools compared to power tools until I went and helped a traditional boat builder, you would be surprised how a sharp axe, chisel, can peel through timber in short order, I would hazard a guess that the number of boats built with old school methods far out number power tool builds in the world. 😀
For the build and the project as a whole we tried very hard to form a solid base to build on, it was slow to start because of that but it is starting to pay dividends =) For this type of construction I would wager you are correct. I can remove more material in less time and noise with an adze than I can with a router. The adz can also cut a compound changing bevel with no fuss or jig. The caveat is that it takes time to get good with the hand tools. If I built another boat like this the adz would play a much bigger part in the early stages. The lipped adz is a game changer and it only took 28 years behind an axe and another 100 hours or so behind the adz to feel like I am getting good with the adz. The background with the axe helped a lot although they are swung very differently. A few thousand hours more with the adz and I will feel as confident with it as I do with an axe.
I enjoyed that video guys.. You put a lot of effort in the lofting floor, i'm glad it can be rebuilt somewhere else.. The computer animation really helped with your discription. Good luck with the steaming..
I don't know anything about boat building but I can relate to moving one thing and changing another. I have rigged bi-plane wings and that is just as tough and probably a little more critical in angle of attacks and twisting etc. Great job. Love the approach you make with your videos. Show the end product and then show the process. I'm hooked guys. I can't wait to see the rest of the build.

I have watched a lot of boat building vids, some of which use this method of framing out the stations. Unfortunately they mostly seem to be in timelapse and do not show the detail of the rest of the construction, if at all. I am very pleased to know that I will get to see the process in great detail now, boys. Keep on keeping on.

I live at the foot of the mountains and the Black Sea is 600 km away but i became addicted of wooden boat after a friend of mine from the States brought me Ted Moores book Canoecraft. In my search on youtube i found you and i think you are awesome guys ! One day i will paddle my wooden canoe and i want you to know that you and other youtubers (like Sampson Boat Co or Tips from a shipwright), are very inspiring by doing a great work. And one more thing, you have something in common with place were i live: your tatoo with wolf footprint represent the emblem of Roman Legion VIII Gemina that was once detached here 2000 years ago. Please excuse my english.
You can use red glasses to see the laser beam during daytime. 12:40 Maybe You could use wires/cables to hold everything in place. Very interresting explanations. Thank You! +1

Both vessels will float and should last 100 years or more if maintained. Both are very proven construction methods and a lot of it depends on opinions and available materials. Both have their pros and cons.

It all looks great. We can now see a better mental picture of what the boat will look like. Can't wait to see how those narrow bands will hold up when springing the frame members. I am assuming the frames will be laminated too, the size you're saying seems a bit thin for an ocean going vessel (to me anyway, however, I'm no boat builder). Thanks again for taking us along on the journey. Yeah, I watch Leo's build too. He's pretty awesome as well. BTW, we would like to see more of Akiva, please.

I saw no flicker or unsteadiness watching on a PC in Firefox Browser. FYI

It all looks great. We can now see a better mental picture of what the boat will look like. Can't wait to see how those narrow bands will hold up when springing the frame members. I am assuming the frames will be laminated too, the size you're saying seems a bit thin for an ocean going vessel (to me anyway, however, I'm no boat builder). Thanks again for taking us along on the journey.
