I met Kevin Conroy at a convention once, I saw him Stand on his chair and proclaim "I am Vengeance, I am The Night, I AM BATMAN" he was amazing. Rest in Peace Kevin Conroy
One of my favourite things ever was seeing Kevin Conroys autobiographical comic about him coming to terms with being gay in the 70s and 80s... And then losing so many friends to the AIDS crisis. The man went through a hell I can't even begin to fathom and yet he said that it was a powerful enough experience to channel it through his acting when he finally took up Batman. It's a powerful comic and highly recommended for a look in. I'm glad he got to see the fans and I'm glad he got to see their approval and how beloved his take on the character was. Whereas Keatons Batman was a nut case, Val Kilmers was a weirdo, George Clooney was aloof, Bale was distant and Ben Affleck/Robert Pattison were angry... Conroy and Adam west's Batman takes were the ones who CARED. They were fueled with empathy. Conroy especially because he got to act in some of the best takes on Batman with Heart of Ice, Babydoll and Mask of the Phantasm... His was a Batman who was hurt but still kept going despite it all because he made a promise to do good. My most powerful memory of Conroys Batman was him screaming "Harvey!" When up against Two-Face. The pain he screams with is like your trying to get your friend to listen as they're destroying themselves and you just want them to listen and know you're there for them and you just want to help. That's Conroys take on the character. Nobody else has quite hit that in my mind. RIP Kevin Conroy.
Interesting you mention West. There are only two Batmans, IMO, who could have made the scene with Ace in Epilogue (JLU Episode) work - Conroy, who did it, and West.
@@rog2224 West also proved he could do a darker take on Batman than he did in the 60s show, not only as the Grey Ghost but in the final season of Superfriends/Super Powers Team when he did the episode The Fear. (He took over for Olan Soule in the last two seasons, Soule switching to Professor Stein, the inner part of Firestorm.) It was the first time Bruce's origin was seen outside of comics as the show became more serious. (Possibly they knew it was the last season and went all out.) It's one of my favorite examinations of Batman's origin.
While for some it's Adam West, many Michael Keaton, others Christian Bale, and in this new decade even Robert Pattinson, for me and likely a huge amount from my generation, Batman & Bruce Wayne is and forever will be Kevin Conroy. Thank you, you magnificent and talented legend for giving one of the best performances of the character of all time. You shall never be forgotten. As for Mask of the Phantasm, I've seen only clips of it but it is definitely on my HBO Max watchlist. Decades later it is still a fantastic movie and I can totally understand why for many, it is the best Batmovie of them all.
A worthy tribute to one hell of a man. There was a comic fairly recently about how he came up with the voice and it's astoundingly powerful and well done.
I'm gonna be tearing up in every part of this review... R.I.P. Kevin Conroy For being best known for playing a character so dark, you brought so much light into my life. 😥
2:50 One of my favorite lines here: 'What rot, sir! Why, you're the very model of sanity! By the way, I pressed your tights and put away your exploding gas balls.' 'Thank you, Alfred.'
Appropriate dedication to kevin conroy who has been the voice I hear while reading comics for the past thirty years , also this is my favorite of the dcau movies. RIP Kevin thanks for years of entertainment and setting a great example
Yeah you really got to feel for Alfred, who’s not only Bruce’s butler but also his cook, housekeeper, chauffeur, and often helps repair and maintain his gadgets.
Which one? Because "Earth Mightiest Heroes" had the potential to rival the DCAU. It had a very similar "adaptation destination" energy. SAdly it was killed by Leob to make way for Avengers Assemble.
From the first episode of the animated series to Arkham Knight, we had him for quite a while, and we will miss him dearly. Still, one should remember the good times, and he gave us many.
For me RDJ will always be Iron Man, Ryan Reynolds will always be Deadpool, and Kevin Conroy will always be Batman. There have been good and even great Batmen, he was the best though, the most impactful. The DC animated universe to me was the height of comics on screen, even more so then the MCU, and Kevin Conroy was a big part of what made it so special.
You know, it's funny. I pinch myself, hoping I'll wake up...and see that Kevin Conroy is still alive, probably some article saying he's already started recording for that new Batman cartoon on HBO Max. But some nightmares you can't wake up from...some nightmares are the ones you wake up TO.
I may be seeing things that aren't there but rewatching the background video just before this and seeing certain shots I think there are times the shadows form the Bat Cowl on Bruce and the Phantasm mask on Andrea, as if their destinies are being fought by Bruce and Andrea's romance.
I remember my father, mother, brother, and I watching Batman the Animated Series in prime time on Fox. As so many others have said... Kevin Conroy will always be my Batman
Can't tell if this was chosen ahead of time, or reuploaded for the sake of the...occasion But I'm sure lots of us are doing DCAU binges recently. So here here

And his medic, don't forget that.
@@mikegates8993 And so so many other things. If Bruce can have Robin and Batgirl, why can’t Alfred hire on some (carefully vetted) staff.
It amazes me how well TAS holds up. I was watching Disney's _Marvel's Avengers_ cartoon last night and it is nowhere as deep or complex as this.
