    i choose my horses based on their looks and yes, I own both shires and use them the most, as i just love the way they look, just wish there was that raven black version from the story mode available in online as well. one thing i have to disagree a little is the bravery of horses in online, as i don't think it is a relevant stat of a horse. not in online, in story mode, yes, that stat was highly visible, that's why i used shire and andalusian in story, but online horses have almost identical stats, even if it clearly says they don't. the only difference between horses stats are their health. but that's just my opinion

      ye PVP Cat has done dozens of tests with bravery and starter horse vs. $1,000+ horses, bravery didn't exist all horses bucked you at set points an you could clearly keep horses under control till then and speed differences were only a matter of seconds between them i think he went from saint denis to tumbleweed with starter horse, nacog and hooded and the same with arabian same set up an there was like only 10seconds difference lol it was a month or so ago i watched them so some details maybe wrong like times, but it was so miniscul it makes no difference :D

      @@Ares2501 I hear that! I have a buddy who got RDO and played it for2 maybe 3 weeks before he got bored and quit. He rushed up to level 50+ and was grinding away to get money and gold and burned out very fast. I take my time. I have certain things I enjoy doing in game, primarily hunting and the occasional stranger mission or random encounter or story missions when I have friends online to help with (I refuse to go with a random group.) I've been playing longer than my buddy and I am still only around level 35 or so. I do not care to grind levels, cash, or gold. That ruins it for me. I love this channel because CEOFoxtrot is pointing out things that I as a casual gamer and RPer really like about this game.

    • @yeetngreet148
      @yeetngreet148 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Historically though, there wasn’t many of them at the time of Red Dead Redemption. That’s why they’ve added breeds like Roadsters (a now extinct breed but a horse of the time) and Turkomans (another extinct breed similar to the Akhal Teke) because they do their best to keep things accurate for the time. In the mid to late 1800s Friesians had nearly disappeared, and the majority were crossed with heavy Warmbloods like Oldenburgs and Ostfriesians (collectively called Bovenlanders). There were just 3 friesian stallions, there is no way our characters could get their hands on them. The closest would could get would be a Bovenlander x Friesian.

    @Drakenwild 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    My experience was different. In story mode I rode a lot of different horses to max bonding and I kept Raven Black Shire for the entire game. I was expecting it wouldn't be skittish since it's so huge but I felt like it was far more reactive to predators than most other horses I rode. I also could not rely on it to outrun any pursuers from random event ambushes and that one mission, where you are supposed to chase Mary's brother on horseback? I failed it because he actually lost me.
    On the contrary, American Standardbred? Amazing, loved that mare, never failed me. Same with Arabians, they are ugly and tiny but I did love the handling and never experienced bravery issues people keep talking about. I was off-roading on the swamps on them many times, reliable as ever. Only one "premium" horse I found to be awful and skittish and that was John's Thoroughbred, Racheal. Proceeded to try two other horses in the epilogue and eventually settled on the Tiger Striped Mustang - those have feathers around their legs, too, they look neat, are medium sized and this specific one is slightly faster than other variants, putting it in the "reliable" category. Great horse, even if not the fastest.
    But then, that's all anecdotal and, well... I've seen some compelling evidence that "hidden bravery stat" for horses simply does not exist, at least not in form people think of it. It would require to do a lot of testing to get more comprehensive results, not just a very specific handful of situations and behaviors, but from what other guy presented, every horse will run away if someone other than you shoots within certain distance from it, every horse will buck you if predator roars at it (which not every predator can and gators are some of ones that don't) and every horse will not buck you if predator capable of roaring roars at different target. After that happens, that cougar can't roar again and you can just ride around it like it's nothing.
    Good for you for liking the Shires though! They are super cool looking :D

      Great information and I actually agree with you.
      Every horse certainly caters to each player’s playing style of course.
      This “Shire” video is saying that the Shire is the “(best well rounded) horse for only $120”... similar to the bolt action rifle being the (best well rounded rifle) in the game.
      Again, great share!!!

      Misremembered the bit about gators not being able to roar, it's only small ones, the big ones can. Anyway, good watch, he lays out his case pretty nicely and concisely.
      And yeah, I agree that Shire is a cool starting horse. Shame it's rank locked in Online - to low tens I believe but it should be available from the beginning. Started playing Online recently and took advantage of Multiclass horse sale to quickly upgrade from crappy Morgan to one of new Mustangs. On sale it was a moderate and achievable price for a horse that caters to all of my free roam needs.

      yes, you are right, even i rode different horses in RDO, and trust me, every horse is a bit diferent and you notice that when you ride it for a long time, handling, temaprament, scaring out from predators, gun shots, everything is minutely adjusted...only the speed factor they talk about is like somewhat correct, upto the context, but character wise, everythings different, and yes, some expensive horses are better, but you have to be that good and responsive about it to notice!

    I wish I'd seen this before. When I started out, I was tempted to buy a Shire - I adore big horses with feathered feet. LOL I got scared off by the "Heavy" handling tag, because I wasn't sure what that would amount to. Now, in the 70s for level, I spent a long time riding the bay roan Ardennes and absolutely love it. Not the fastest, but rock solid and calm as anything. I've tried the Turkoman and deeply regretted that, it was just too prone to tossing me on my backside at any excuse despite full bonding. I recently got the strawberry roan Ardennes but honestly, I'm not noticing a major difference from the bay roan (and I like the bay roan coat better). Admittedly, I tend to prefer spending my time roaming around the map admiring Tesla's tower and the Serpent Mound and the scenery and all, collecting enough to cover expenses, rather than anything dramatic or demanding. But quite possibly, if I'd seen this video before and bought a Shire right at the beginning, I never would have gotten as far as my Ardennes.
    PS, love the videos! Always good to see someone else who enjoys the little things that make the game special, rather than just one more shooting game. Give Prysmcat and IndieDiva a wave if you see us meandering around the map sometime. :-D

I know they do videos saying theyre all the same in skittishness but I see a huge difference in breeds. Arabians are REALLY jittery. Not worth a lick, except when I first started the Beta of RDO they gave you one for free. Once I had $ I changed. They freak out all the time. The Gypsy Cobb is the least skittish of the premium ones and isnt phased by legendary animals in the slightest! its only certain predators (gators, wolves) where I notice a difference.

    I own ten horses, I'd have 20 if they made the stables available, and I rarely notice a difference whichever which one I'm using. I prefer the lighter more delicate horses for looks, the big meaty ones just don't fit my character. I just choose the color I want for that day's play, and only switch if my horse gets stuck and cant come when I whistle.
    PvPCat did a video recently testing temperament (or skittishness), and his conclusion was there is no set difference between any of the breeds.
    Similarly speed, if you race from St Denis to Tumbleweed it's only a matter of seconds difference between the fastest horses and the slowest.
    For health, maybe a lighter horse takes fewer hits before going down, but I rarely put my horse in a situation where it's getting shot at.
    Finally stamina, more might be useful when your horse is swimming a long distance, but that's a rare situation.

      Yeah, I cannot notice any difference between the 3 horses that I have..
      First was the horse you get in the intro, he seems to have balls of steel.
      My second horse was a Mustang, which also seems to have balls of steel.
      My third and most favorite horse (just cause of the looks!) is the Black Arabian, which also has balls of steel.
      The speed difference is so little, I can't even notice it and other then the way they look and the base stats, I cannot find any other difference between them.
      They all only buck me, if a predator bites them or is real close and growls. If I keep sprinting and calming, I could trample predators with any horse.

      All of the horses have the same bravery. It has been tested by pvpcat. I'm level 380, have owned almost all of the horses. The game mechanic for horse "bravery" is the same with all breeds.

    They are big beautiful horses Indeed. I use a dark bay shire in story mode as my secondary horse for hunting. Ride as my main horse as well. Bravery is random and two of the same breeds can act differently. But the shire should not be ignored. Massive size and beautiful !

    I love Shires sooo much in real life, but I've been hesitant to get one online because of the stats. Your video changed my mind, and I'll definitely be buying a shire! I want other of the big guys, once I get my role ranks up, but I think the shire would be fun to do solo stuff with and my trading role!

    This was excellent. I love my Turkoman, Chief. When I started online I had a coupon for a free horse. I chose this breed for its calmness. Fully bonded, Chief will keep me onboard with a cougar, or wolf under his feet. He has limits. If I don't kill the predator in a reasonable time off I go. Cheers, BR

    Brother, I have enjoyed your videos so much. They have made me think about the game in an entirely new and fresh way. I think that I enjoy the game much more now than I did before watching your excellent videos. I really hope you keep it up! I have watched many of your videos multiple times and I feel like I learn something new, or at least see a different facet of the game each time. I don't role play quite as much as you seem to, but I truly enjoy incorporating it a little into my decisions. I particularly enjoyed the imagination video, that one was game changing, so to speak. I have never even considered subscribing to anyone before but after the imagination video you did I smashed the crap out of that button! Please keep them coming!

    Wait how is the turkoman scitish I mean it's literally a race and war horse it's mean to be fast and brave also most role horses are a war and other mix so almost all role horses are brave with great health and stamina all the really changes much is the speed and acceleration

    • @LetItPlay17
      @LetItPlay17 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No if you look at the catalog there a different purpose there are have horse which good for certain type of thing like war horse is brave when gunfight but they skittish with predator and easy buck you off but there also a horse that specialise for hunting which is good around predator not easy buck you off but they will but not easy and skittish when gunfight thats why stable have a lot of space for horse for certain type of what are you gonna do

    • @Cicada-oj4xq
      @Cicada-oj4xq 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agus Andika dude I know a war horse isn't Scittish until you try to run head first into a bear I've literally trampled wolves cougars gators and other predators war horses are flat out meant for being slow but brave work horses are easily more scittish my turkoman may be more Scittish than my breton but it is still braver than most even the roadster is not super Scittish even at lower bonding it gets nervous around predators and gunfights but will never buck you until the animals literally biting its ankles it's all down to what you prefer and I prefer a horse that isn't slow can handle fights and hunting and in general is more useful for what I do the turkoman isnt scittish no horses are really scittish as long as you work with them and don't treat your horses like crap

    • @Dirtbag-Hyena
      @Dirtbag-Hyena 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and no. I have 3 role horses and they all are great in a fight but not around predators.
      My Breton is the best and takes the longest to buck from death machines, but she seems to REALLY hate gators the most. Then bears.
      Next is my Gypsy Cob.
      My all-time best horse for everything but speed(ironic)is my Mustang. I have the white and brown spotted 45 gold one with 100% stam and health.
      She's not big but she's got a big heart. 99% of the time she will not buck. We even stood down a charging Grizzly while I shot it with a bow. Never fed me to the bear. This has been my experience.

    • @Cicada-oj4xq
      @Cicada-oj4xq 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drtbag39 honestly yeah it's the same for me most of the time I generously only trample the gators I can't see on my Breton every other time I either avoid em or my horse does it for me but I'm in the same boat as you I just disagreed with this guy because he made me get into a whole argument with a buddy who actually believed me and made me have to go and show him that A disregarding bravery the speed imbalance is to big and even then in certain areas work horses are infamously bad like in west Elizabeth's forest tall trees Roanoke ridge and the outer skirts of saint denis and those are areas missions and role tasks make you visit fairly regularly so I had to prove him it's ok to own but at least for missions and just outright performance and grinding a multi-class horse or role horse would be the best option

  • @billcampbell9886
    @billcampbell9886 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like to role-play and explore, but I also like to do most of the available Daily Challenges each day, and for that, I prefer a strong horse that can run non-stop at top speed to get the Challenges done quickly.
    To achieve this, you need a horse that is fully bonded, has 100% health and 100% stamina with the Nacogdoches Saddle and Hooded Stirrups, or the Upland Saddle.
    I think the Buckskin Mustang and the Black Overo Mustang are two of the best looking horses in Red Dead Online, and either one will work fine for this.
    The Upland Saddle is the best (unmodified) saddle in the game, however when you add the Hooded Stirrups to the Nacogdoches Saddle, the combined stats make the Nacogdoches Saddle the best available. In addition, if you use the Collector's Saddlebags, you can carry two additional outfits on your horse for role-playing.
    Unfortunately, you cannot change the stirrups or saddlebags on the Upland Saddle.

    Sorry mate, but your statements about "premium horses" are as a general rule not correct. The Arabian and to a lesser degree the Missouri Foxtrotter will indeed buck you off if he sees his own shadow, but the Turkoman, Breton or my trusty Norfolk Roadster are as steadfast as you can want any horse, even when approached by predators (they will ofc buck eventually if forced into too close contact, just as your Shire). You need them at maximum bonding level. Only then you should judge how they behave.

      As a proud owner of Ten horses and a three time owner of shires, Turks foxtrotters and every colour Arab I can confirm this comment. (I'm a Rank 596 day one player) in fact sometimes my "bravest" horse has bucked me for cougars and wolves if I don't react in time. However the cost to improvement ration is TERRIBLE in online, I still ride a strawberry roan Ardennes and have never deleted it because I like the breed, that I think is most important, performance improvements is nominal, a ten health horse still takes one headshot to kill

    Great video! I hope that if there is ever a RD3, that the developers give us more detail abilities in our horse's and what we can do with them. They (to me) are 50% of the game. I would have much rather had the choice to catch and train a horse, or pay to have it trained, and as I bond, level up the horse for specific duties. One for bounties, one for roles, pvp, missions and so on, Or keep one horse that cost me in some way to level up in areas of my choice. I would also have rather had the saddle of choice that I can level up to a high point. It could have been a win win for both developers and players.

    100% agree. Any horse in the game can be great if utilized correctly.
    this also goes for horses such as the tennessee walkers, kentucky sadlers and morgans. those cheap small horses can do an ancredibly well job as well if your bonding with the horse is high enough and if it's equipped with the right saddle and stirrups. Do it right, and these cheap horses can be every bit as great, if not better, than the expensive premium horses.
    and I say this as someone who owns BOTH the black arabian (40 goldbars) and black turkoman (also 40 something goldbars), the top tier breton horse and multiple other top level horses. Almost ALL of them handle danger incredibly unwell, where as horses such as my shire handles these situations significantly better. Generally, turkomans ARE great too but you have to know how to use the horse properly. If the horse starts fighting for control, stop trying to steer the horse, just let go and let the horse take you out of the line of danger, and then reposition or flee all together.
    But fr, the price doesn't matter. How much you bond with and how well you use your horses in the game, will determine whether its a good horse or not. Speed also isn't everything. Most expensive horses are simply a status symbol, where you try to flaunt your wealth (or lack thereoff, depending on the horse and it's basis price)

      In my experience I had a horse that played well with the best saddle e.t.c but when I tried the Arabian it was like a different world. The handling makes so much difference and in a different study video it's been shown that all horses are equally brave, more specifically there is no bravery factor in horse stats, shown OR hidden.
