- On September 13th, 2019 two powerhouses in the USA Today Top 25 squared off at Rutgers University between IMG Academy (FL) and St. Joseph's Prep (PA). The game was shown on ESPN2 as part of the GEICO High School Football Showcase. This game highlights ESPN Top 300 players #41 Elias Ricks (LSU commit) and #228 Warren Brinson (Georgia commit), while also including ESPN Junior 300 players #35 Kyle McCord (Ohio State commit), #87 Marvin Harrison Jr. and #130 Jeremiah Trotter Jr. (Clemson commit).

It didn’t matter who won. The fact that PREP got to play IMG, was a blessing. My son played the 2018 PIAA State Champs PREP....graduated before this game. We waited for 4 yrs to play IMG, and thought it was out of reach. IMG is a Beast! And they are very good, and PREP needed that game.
St. Frances is a beast as well. Both teams St.Frances and IMG are really good. And we are grateful that Prep got the chance to play both teams. It was a great challenge!

We played Oaks Christian Academy in LA. I had to leave to catch my flight... but we beat them. Our guy.... D’Andre Swift.... played that game... bless him... drafted to the Detroit Lions...

St. Joes Prep played St.Francis. We played at Rutgers University The score was 13-7 St. Francis. They are really good. The game was stopped due to the lightening and rain.
My son played in that game, and he said the guys on the team were really cool, and really good athletes.
We aren’t into bashing other teams. Prep kids are taught to give props no matter what.
JSerra? St. Thomas Aquinas? Mater Dei and De LaSalle Those teams are boss...... They all have real talent. It’s nice to see the young fellas do well. I try to keep up with them and see how well they do in college. People talk crap about St. Francis... but I think it’s nice to see those kids get a chance to play and get a great education all at the same time.
I will follow Prep until the last of my sons team mates graduate. I think McCord comes out in 2021...so we are following McCord, Marvin Harrison, and Jeremiah Trotter.
DJ Ul... is a NFL prospect. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t head straight to the NFL in his Sophomore year or Jr. year of college. He’s a beast!

I’m sorry people talk trash about SoCal. But you know how football is. We’ve played against some heavy weights in the game. We played Our Lady of Good Council in 2014. We lost. But then we played them and I don’t remember when... but we beat them.
I saw on here where they talked trash about recruiting. Which is trash. At Prep, even if they liked you, you still have to do the work. You still have to pass the entrance exam... and parents still have to pay for it.
The programs....🤔 the programs and coaches make the team... and the players. From the way Mater Dei plays... you can see that they have a strict program. And the kids have to be dedicated.
Some do get manhandled. But it makes them tougher. It’s cool as long as it’s not a violation.
We played Pittsburg Central Catholic. In 25 degree weather. It was for the state championship. Prep was thrown all over the place. PCC committed penalty after penalty... to the he point they were getting ejected from the game. The face mask was the worst. And committed right in front of a ref! Not called. Several fights broke out, but we prevailed and won.
But wait! Did I read what you said about no respect and beating them too?
Why not? Respect is key in football. Prep has beaten teams and put up basketball scores....and then they have played teams where they have had to fight hard for their points .
But they are taught love and respect. Even though they have played some good teams... those teams gave them a run for their money. It was great because it kept them on their toes. It kept them sharp, showed them that they can get beaten, it showed them not to underestimate their opponents.
Prep playing IMG even though IMG made remarks and taunted them, strengthened them. It was good for them. They were winning every 7on 7, and scrimmage.
They beat every game all the way to the state finals. One year they played a 7 on 7 and won. Their reward was to announce the 2017 NFL draft pick.
We can respect all teams whether we win or lose. That is partially what is taught. They aren’t taught to look down at any team because they beat them.
Their former coach Gab Infante is awesome. He was an amazing coach and he developed those boys into amazing players.

Oh, and the trash talk was the issue about how the kids on the team were from all over the US. They don’t think it’s fair that the team was recruited. The argument is that the Catholic League should be separate from public leagues.
But that isn’t about Public and Catholic. That’s about getting beaten. The public leagues don’t seem to be very will supported by the school or parents.. etc. and sometimes the programs are very well ran.

Well I wouldn’t say “all East Coast Teams” rely on the run game. We played Harrisburg for the State Championship in Dec of 2018. Harrisburg relied on their run game. Their QB wasn’t even a true QB he was an athlete.... he ran .... a lot. Don’t get me wrong, they were good... but they were runners....
Prep can do both. McCord has an arm... he is good. Prep doesn’t just run with the ball. These kids can catch, and they were great at interceptions as well. We have some fast kids, but coach Infante did not focus on speed. And I believe that because Harrisburg had run game... it kind of hurt them.
Final Score Prep 40, Harrisburg 20.
It was a nail bitter. You know other regions are going to talk trash. The southern states play all year around football in warm weather.
Prep plays in 25 degree weather. It’s hard to play in the snow... it’s hard to play when you are close to frost bite.
I think we had a good mix of both runners... and returners. I don’t know much about the SoCal teams. But in PA, the public teams are not as strong in football. Many of the public school teams just aren’t good.
That’s why we have the arguments. The public leagues hate the Catholic leagues. Mainly because they believe that if a Catholic team wins anything it’s because of recruiting. In PA, you have to live in a county that you go to school to. Unless it’s Catholic. Then you can live anywhere and play for any school. During football season it’s legit bashing. And they want PIAA to change the rules back to public playing only public schools and they want the same with Catholic schools.
SoCal appears to be handled differently. And it’s good to know that the So Cal talent draws from public school.
Prep kids in a vigorous program. The city schools don’t have the coaching staff nor the kids have the discipline.
Mission Viejo is beautiful! We stayed there when we played Oaks Christian Academy.

My son played with McCord. When PREP lost to Pine-Richland when they had Jurkovich... they made a pact. They are all very close. McCord said that year, that he wanted to send the class of 2019 out with a State Championship. And he did. And the years after as well.
Kyle had a bad game. All those kids have had bad games. But it is not about how you fall, but how you rise after falling.
I’m proud of all the boys. My son played with Deandre Swift at the same church leagues before Prep. These kids have a bond. It’s a brotherhood. It’s about God. Love, trust, honor, respect. It’s really incredible.

You know, I decided to take a look into IMG's 'soft' program. Going back to the 2014 season I decided to look up the regular season only (since IMG doesn't play post-season) records against Top-100 opponents. The numbers are telling. IMG has played 21 Top-100 opponents; MD has played 20. The overall opponent-average-rankings are nearly identical: 33.8 vs. IMG and 33.5 vs. MD. Both teams scored nearly identical points: 34.3 for IMG and 35.8 for MD. Both teams gave up nearly identical points: 17.1 for IMG and 18.2 for MD. The margins of victory were nearly identical too: +17.3 for IMG and +17.6 for MD. YET: despite all the nearly identical stats, IMG went 20-1 while MD went 16-4. Now while MD has a .800 record against Top-100 teams over the last 6 seasons (as of 10/12/19) which shows MD clearly has an outstanding program, IMG has a .952 record. Please tell me again about IMG's soft program?
