    The Philip R. Clarke and The John G. Munson....Pushing in.. Pushing in...a sunny June day and on the horizon.. a combo of a surprise as two ladies launched in the 50s come to town...these girls are still looking great they're holding their own..Strong salutes for the crowd and they are wasting no time..they're gone again...hard working gals they are....such a wonderful shot of these ships as they made the approach!
    Beautiful crisp images in this video..remarkable! Thank you for this!

      @@1Long2Short The best visit was in January, was on my way to Cloquet, MN Diamond Match to deliver, I remember the lake being froze over, the full moon shining off the ice was breathtaking

      Yes, Duluth can breathtaking in the winter. Some of my favorite moments I've captured on video were the winter scenes. But it's not for everyone!

    Watching tis on my 52" smart tv. A lot nicer than the little computer screen. Wouldn't it be great if GreatLakes had the "four horseman" running. Clarke, Munson, Anderson and Calloway? How neat that would be?

    • @1Long2Short
      @1Long2Short  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be great. It seems that they have often had one boat sit out at any given time. For a while it was the Munson. Then the Anderson had her two-year layup. Then the Clarke took two years off. Now it’s the Callaway. I think there was a brief moment in 2020 where all four were running.

    These great ships bring to mind again the Commodore's song "She's a Brick House" and also Aretha Franklin's "Pink Cadillac"...some GLIDE in her stride and wow what great salutes! Wonderful video ~ blue skies, blue waters, super strong and gliding on by. Thank you so much for bringing this to us~ we are all better for it!!

    That opening shot! Simply amazing. Now all we need is some creative scheduling to have the James, Kaye, and Mark Barker visit Duluth at the same time. Or perhaps the Arthur M. Anderson, Alpena, and Wilfred Sykes, with Michipicotin zipping through.

    Why'd the first one do 3 long and 2 short vs. the pattern of the second vessel? I'm not a mariner by any stretch of the imagination, so forgive my lack of knowledge. I'm just in awe of these machines.

    A really great 'Two-Fer'..... two Classics at the same time.... a rare catch. And with their Salutes, definitely crowd pleasers judging by the sound of the cheers from the other side of the channel. With both ships being 70 years old, the Great Lakes Fleet is getting their money's worth out of these ole girls. I still think that it is odd that ships are referred to as being feminine while most of them have male names. Excellent catch and info as always - thank you.

    • @1Long2Short
      @1Long2Short  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks! It’s a longtime maritime tradition. It would be strange if people started calling ships using masculine pronouns. 🤔

      From a railroad point of view, a locomotive by itself is referred to as "she," but the same locomotive pulling a train is referred to as "he."

    It's always fun to have two-fers like this! I had a two-fer with the Anderson and Munson in Port Huron a while ago, it's still one of my favorite shipspotting moments so far.
