“Discovering a Kirin chip using SMIC's 7nm (N+2) foundry process in the new Huawei Mate 60 Pro smartphone demonstrates the technical progress China's semiconductor industry has been able to make without EUV lithography tools,” said Dan Hutcheson, Vice Chair of TechInsights.

This is the worst news channel on the Internet. There was no proof that you could provide that China is evading US sanctions. Rumors do not constitute news and America is not out there to STOP China from doing its own R&D. Your inherent bias against America is evident. You guys make your own assumptions about America and then try to prove that those assumptions are violated. That is not news.

To put it bluntly, the U.S. sanctions against China's Semiconductor industry has failed. China is a confident nation, their technological might has come suddenly and swiftly. The nation cannot be suppressed. Their independent innovation capability and ability to reverse engineer advanced manufacturing tools is second to none. The battle is over, China's industrial base is frightening. China produces 40% of global exports. And yes, China is a single country.

Not really, China is no doubt a very powerful, smart and cunning country which can't be defeated by America or any other western countries so that's why they need the help of India.
India is the only country in the world who has the power to stop or slow China in their own arena. China is somewhat afraid of India's potential and because of this many CCP ministers are angry at the xinping decision for border clash with India.
China's ambition is almost like a fantasy where it wants almost half of Asia territory and because of this they will pay a price in a very bad way.

Sharma says there are two possibilities: that China has been stockpiling chipmaking equipment from overseas, or that China "stole" the EUV technology. Actually, there is a third possibility: it simply bypassed EUV technology to produce lower-nm (like 7-nm) semiconductors. It has been known that several countries--the US, Japan, South Korea, and China--have been conducting research on alternative means to produce lower-nm chips, with varying levels of success. As early as the 1990s, Prof. Stephen Chou at Princeton University demonstrated a process called NIL that replicates the precision of EUV--recently, he was able to print chips at a scale lower than 10 nm, as reported by the MIT Technology Review. So we know the process works. And China apparently demonstrated the use of another technology, 'chip stacking' to achieve scales in the neighborhood of 7-nm, about a year ago. It's not clear that China used either of these techniques in the Huawei Mate60. What is clear is that there are alternative technologies for chipmaking that bypass EUV, and that China may simply have gone to market faster than its neighbors. What is also clear is Firstpost's anti-China bias, that it won't even consider this possibility.

palki sharma .this is not old chips from huawei , it have been a teardown from many companys ,from japan ,usa and canada all not on chinas side Key takeaways from TechInsights’ analysis:
Processor Size Increase: The Kirin 9000s die measured 107 mm², slightly larger (2%) than the Kirin 9000’s die (105 mm²). This information led the team to conclude that SMIC was indeed the manufacturer.
Advanced Technology: Initial lab results indicated that this die is more advanced than SMIC’s 14nm process node, but with larger critical dimensions (CDs) than seen in a 5nm process.
7nm Features: Further measurements on the die’s critical dimensions (CDs), including logic gate pitch, fin pitch, and lower back-end-of-line (BEOL) metallization pitches, showed that the die indeed possesses 7nm features.
Unlike the previous N+1 7nm technology, the N+2 7nm process offers improved scalability and yield, addressing previous production challenges.
This marks the first commercial use of an advanced Chinese process technology node supporting bitcells (embedded SRAM), paving the way for a fully domestic advanced SoC design and manufacturing ecosystem.

It is NOT EUV lith machines that Palki Sharman mentioned. Those EUV machines, used for 7nm or 5nm chips, with much finer wavelenght and better precision, are banned from China. But China managed to use the DUV lith machine, with wider wavelength and less precision, through the application of "double exposure" to create the same result as using EUV machines, to create the 7nm chips.
DUV lith machines are not sanctioned. ASML continues to supply these machines to China. So far there are over 800 of these machines being deployed in the fabs in China. But what is important is that China can produce these DUV machines. So even if ASML is forced to stop selling these machines to China, China can ramp up the production and produce more of these machines.
The chip war is really a moot point. By the time we get to 3nm chips, the quantum interference is so great, that silicon chips are so expensive, it is no longer a viable technology. And the world move forward to chips using light, or chips using graphene. In those areas, China is actually on par with US in technology development.

The Chinese advancement in mobile phones reminds me of what it did in TVs. The fact that China came out of nowhere in 2000 and started the development of TVs that, up to now, this year, have rivaled those of Korea and Japan shows it is a very technologically capable country, which, makes me wonder why the US couldn't get into TV too??? I remember the words of the CEO of Admiral, who sold the US's last TV company to an Asian entity, saying "There's no money in (making) TV." He is so wrong. The Asians have made a $60 billion killing on TV sales in the US. How stupid can we be?

As a Chinese, I believe that the sanctions imposed by the United States are very effective. The sanctions imposed by the United States have effectively hindered the development of China's top technology, but on the other hand, other Chinese companies that have not been sanctioned are forced to seek pure Chinese technology solutions to replace foreign technology, in order to avoid potential sanctions that may occur in the United States or Western countries in the future. This has given many opportunities for the development of new technology enterprises in China.
