HAD a 74 Formula SD....what was the spec. I owned a 74 Formula 400 and LUSTED after the Formula SD once I figured out what they were. TODAY, I own a 1974 SD 455 Trans/Am and it is better than new and totally bad ass.
@@74SD455TA My Formula SD was a 74 Regatta Blue with auto, ac, honeycombs. It was in Aug 1991 High Performance Pontiac magazine (cover and inside article), under a new owner. I bought it for abouut $5000. I sold it in 1981.
@@clevlandblock You have to be hating yourself everyday for ever getting rid of it. I would never have sold that car ( I have owned my 1969 Camaro now for the past 43 years for example). The only thing I may not have liked about any Formula SD is if it had air conditioning as most were automatics. I do no like A/C on these cars at all. Glad that you made up for it by getting your current 74 SD 4 spd car.
Where's a time machine when you need one? I'd visit 1974 for a week & buy one of these. The 70s gave us the 455 SD Trans Am, Led Zeppelin & Blazing Saddles 😆
Great video but what you should do...is, start from a dead stop, shift at around 5700 ( I was watching your tach/etc.) , and KEEP YOUR FOOT IN IT! I have let a couple friends drive my 74 SD 455 TransAm and I tell em, OK, you think you're neat, should you want to exercise this SD, you have to keep your foot in it, for a quarter mile....its exhilarating. Non Aspirated, no turbo BS, just rock and roll tree stump pulling power
Oh c'mon don't be so sillly. Each and EVERY SD had a posi in it whether it be the non A/C car with a 3.42 rear end or the A/C car with the 3.08. NOW, with the Formula 455 SD, the posi was an option and if not ordered you would get the open rear end.
Limited Slip is what they called posi back in 1974 for the Pontiacs. Its posi. Now, when a Super Duty was ordered with air conditioning, (bad idea) you could only get a 3.08 rear end and a 4 speed was not available. The 4 speed cars got the 3.42 as did the non A/C automatics with that 3.42.
I prefer the drag racers spec'd THM 400 to which I can get chirp in 3rd gear, it only has 3. Put a shift kit in it, a stall speed, and I will consistently beat the clutch car all day long as did the drag racers. Plus when you get a used 4 speed car, you get all the rattles in it from the turkey's before that missed gears and blew up engines....no thanks.
My favorite year Firebird . Prefer the tight grill on these cars compared to the sloppy look of the 73's and under . But can't do that turned metal dash . Just too shiny and too reflective . Liked the Formulas wood grain dash much better which also offered the SD 455 , A true sleeper """
Nothing to be sorry about. I personally like them and think Pontiac did a good job incorporating them within the EPA govt. mandated 5 MPH law that took affect in 1974.
This car is on the money ! Whoever tuned it, did a great job
There aren't enough videos of Trans Ams like these in driving pov on TH-cam
Nice car. I had a 74 Formula SD and still own a 74 SD 4 spd. Great full throttle run on your video. I get nervous when I hear that SD roar

God bless America!
What a gorgeous trans am. Just stunning. 😉👍
I rem walking by parking lot guy had 1. Always wanted 1. When I graduated in '78 bought 1. Coolest car ever! 134 mpg stock!

Thanks! Not my car so I try to be somewhat gentle while still reflecting her road manners. She's a fun one!
👍🏻Sweet !!

Great video and even better wheels. 👍
Bad ass ride. I prefer the looks of the 73 over the 74 but still bad ass nonetheless.

Open rear or tired posi?
Ein Traum. Bitte acht geben. Gruß aus Wien.
Too bad it's not a 4-speed like mine I can get chirp in 4th gear, cameo white with the blue interior

Sadly most family cars will blow that off the road now.
yea, but we're not supposed to say it.
But they aren’t as cool as this lol 😂.
That's so true but how many family cars can look as cool as this beautiful trans am......@@johnchurch4705.
Maybe true but a weekend in the driveway with basic hand tools can easily change that. Can’t say that about newer cars.
Hate the bumpers. Sorry.

@@74SD455TA at least it's not like the 74 Mopars
