Saw this loco at Barrow Hill last year. It was a beautiful sight, and I wish I’d have gotten better pictures of it. Only shame is that several Midland Railway engines like the 0-4-4T and some six-coupled goods engines were cut up and not saved.
I was on that SLS Special from New Street to York. I remember we stopped at Annesley and Staveley (and Mexborough?) Was it to York or to Doncaster? I loved the old ex-Midland 4-4-0s. With a load of 3 or 4 coaches they used to belt along from B'ham New St to Tamworth High Level c1954/55.
I recall seeing the Midland Compound 1000 a special going over Tamworth High Level..as we where in the field on the Low Level {WCML} who knows it could have been on its last tour as in the later end of this film as it was about 1960 at the time of sighting
The Midland believed in their steam locos. I hope UK workshops still adopt this approach. A non dogmatic approach to traction needs to be adopted. I am an electric fan but think all traction modes are valid.

I remember being on the footplate of 1000 in about 1961. Happy days.
Was it in the Marylebone railway exebition?
I wish we could see the Railway Roundabout on UK TV again. Good viewing!
Awesome archival footage. Clear and easy to watch. A great steam junkie flick.
Magnificent locomotive and one of my favourites since first I saw it at Derby. :D
Good shots inside one of the Roundhouses, Derby. (There were three, now only one is preserved).

My dad was the fireman on the run to Wirksworth!
Really?Your si lucky.
No he was not. He sold lumps of coal and sticks from a pull cart. He used a blind dog to pull it.
Where can I find the original films of these?
A minor grumble, that's all (from an English teacher). Confusion can arise from non standard English use. The film is excellent and very enjoyable.
Thank you Purell.
Fair enough, btw, this is my main channel I'm posting from
What dose this mean
Shame it's not run since 1985
I have a model of this train I called her Emily
and your point?
The video talks about the history of the midland compound....if you hate if Then, just fuck off little piece of shit
Nice filming before the Monopolists used the motorists to pay for their stinking lorries
If we're going public let's get spelling right for the public. This has two wrong uses of what should be its. End of grumble.............
Thank you again Popsicle. 🙄 🙄
