I keep listening to this one on repeat today. I loved the SoDaR version and I wasn't immediately blown away with this one. But I'm listening to this particular version (this video) over and over at work today. And this song is making me feel so sad , but at the same time so thankful. I'm sad because of the waisted love that I and those around me give to anything in this world. However it makes me happy because it reminds me their is nothing worth loving without our love for Christ, and the love that He gives to us. Praise Jesus, for praise for anything else is nothing.
Jesus is the only 'thing' (Person) I eventually came out to think of about as being of worth being obsessed with... as He was and IS so obsessed with Us...
I'm still kind of new to Demon Hunter. I've known about them for years. Hell, I even got to see them live once when they toured with Red around 9 or 10ish years ago. I knew I was seeing a popular band but looking back, I didn't know I got to see greatest before I knew how amazing lyrically DH is. The reason I wanted to make this post is I wanted to share my personal interpretation for the song Praise the Void. The first time I heard this, I thought it was just an outright new song made exclusively for the album, not realizing it was just being released first before the newer version that I still have yet to hear. This was the first song that hit me hard, but after reading other people's interpretations, I felt mine was significantly different. My interpretation is rather depressing. I felt it was about a person realizing in life that no matter how hard they try to fight in this world to be sinless, they're going to fail and it hurts every time you break it. However, the person who is consistently breaking their vows to try and not sin are surrounded by people who do not care about God or Jesus. When I see the lyrics "Wasted love" I feel it meant that God still loves all of his children, but there are people who couldn't care less what he would feel or do for them. Followed by Wasted love, you see the lyrics "We found nothing is enough." It mentally hurts to see that line. I felt that no matter how hard you try, your sin by definition means that no matter how you sin, it's technically not enough to be saved from hell. "Nothing is enough" to truly be saved from hell, and that hurts so bad to think about. The idea of praising the void just makes me think of how many celebrate the fact they do not have to worry about a creator in their life so they live with nothing in their life and as Christians, that's one of the most painful things you'll ever see. Not being able to save everyone is one of the most hurtful things we have to live with. "Is it the end what you want to see?" followed with "is it peace for only me?" Signifying that knowing the only way to save those is to introduce them to God and Jesus, but there are so many people could care less. We are saved by the grace of God and believe many of us will make it to our temples when we die. But living with the sad thought of "how little is not enough to be saved?" Plagues me based on how so many people just disregard things in their lives. Sorry if I over thought any of this. That's just the message I still get when I listen to this song and though it's lyrically such an amazing song, it's one of the more depressing songs I've heard. If you managed to read this entire thing, thank you for humoring my interpretation of the song.
😢 I honestly got the same interpretation. Being surrounded by non-believers, that attempt to fill the void in their hearts, with earthly idols and believing in lies, just breaks my heart and I mourn for them. Let's not forget to pray for those ❤

@@gloomsouls ok...but have you given Wage War a chance? or maybe Stryper and Iron Maiden? As far as Christian Deathmetal goes....Wage War has no equal IMO
What a beautifully mournful song, and such a great way to ask a sober question. Can't say this is my favorite record (not sure which is) but it is more my natural style, and is probably gonna get played more just for that reason. The resurrected version of this was beautiful for sure, and I think just as good, maybe better in some ways, but I think I'll listen to this more. All of these songs sound so "done," as in baked long enough. Fairly rare these days, though I know much of it is talent and skill too. Nothing sounds rushed or half-hearted, and the recordings are solid and dynamic enough. This is gonna age really well.
We just said our goodbyes with a family member, taken by another's choice and bad decisions from a hospital. Been listening to this, dead flowers, and I am a stone on repeat. The music certainly brings emotions, that sadness, but it's also comforting. Even with the sarcastic nature of the singer. ; ) Love your guys work, your music.
My favorite band of all time. I can't stand the screaming, but the rest, is an art that no other band has ever come close to for me. The lyrics, the vocals, the rhythm, everything. I can't get enough.
The hand to take hold of.... I pray many know to take that hand. The hand of salvation, of victory, over ourselves, over sin. May you all take that hand and hold fast.
When I feel the Voids call, pulling me before my time, I listen to this to remind myself that if I am nothing else in this miserable universe of suffering, I am an Obedient Son, bearing my burdens. I don't care about rewards, genuinely don't believe in them. But I will die with what little virtue I managed to scrape together clutched too me.
IMO, probably the best song Demon Hunter has ever written. So hauntingly beautiful and yet so true. This band deserves world wide recognition. Best band of my generation.
That watery clean tone is very nu-metal, awesome to see such a maligned sound repurposed to something more artistic. The mix overall is somehow polished yet crisp, some of the best production I've heard on a metal track since Blackwater Park.

I knew somehow that it was going to be in the next album. I was right. Definitely this is one of my favorite songs. I don't know if I'm right about the lyrics, but it is a metaphor about Christ right? Anyways, that's what it means to me. I also praise the Void 🔥. Blessings DH
