11:30 Sebran Shagoury is not in prison today. He was paroled in 2003 & violated parole and went back to prison multiple times. But as of 2019 he was paroled again.
@@wyattxhim now the one I read was from 2019 so anything could have happened since then but he was paroled that year. Which was the last I could find on it. Great video
Another prison album is Blood Extinction's "Rise Up" EP. They got locked up and wrote all the songs in Iraq, then released a live demo version, which is the album.
stupid story.. sorry not death metal, had no impact, making a story out of nothing. 3 idiots had nothing else to do so they chose a genre and had a good time doing it locked up.. by that time death metal was dead... its like saying i played acid rock in prison back in 1981😂😂😂
Rapper X-Raided was incarcerated at 17, and spent 26+ years on a 32 to life sentence in California prisons. Recorded countless albums, most studio quality with smuggled equipment, others over the payphones, but a definite genius. He's out now, and still doing his thing. He has some themes, production and lyrics I imagine a lot of death metal fans would appreciate. I do, and I'm a huge death metal/grindhead
Holy shit! This one hit even closer to home for me. I lived in Gardner maybe 5 minutes form the prison for the first 28 years of my life. I totally forgot about this demo. I came across it years ago looking up albums from the area. Regarding the music being played on the radio. I could see the local college radio station or the local radio station maybe playing it. The local station was a classic rock station but would have some metal on at night and would try to promote local bands. Awesome video as always Wyatt!
I'm on drums on a few prison recorded soft rock cover demos recorded in maximum security in Ireland. We'd play stuff like Oasis, U2, Prince, radio friendly stuff that the majority of prisoners would recognize and could sing along to. Me and the guys in the band were all in the music class and we just started playing together. It's not my usual kind of music but I had fun playing with the guys and it was just a bit of fun for the other prisoners too. We'd do live shows every couple of months. How the recording worked was we'd go to the music room together like we would for any group class and the teachers just had a little recorder mic they'd put behind a door while we played whatever we played at our last show and do it like a live recording. There would always be at least one officer outside the window looking in and there were security cameras on us at all times. Nothing but good vibes, we had a great relationship with the two teachers and even the officers liked to listen in so it was allowed to continue and grow. I also learned the basics of guitar in prison and started coming up with little guitar and bass riffs on an acoustic guitar I had in my cell to lay the foundation for a one man Melvins-inspired thing I wanted to do when I got released.
and i was in a thrash band in 1999 we were huge underground prison band that made it big in prison. we wouldve been bigger than slayer had we not been locked up.😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wyatt there is italian band Ferocity who did a couple albums in prison but have yet to be published. Ferocity started in the 90’s and members were part of the Beasts of Satan sect. In 98 after a couple demos the vocalist/guitarist killed the bassist along with other sect members. There were a couple more demos/albums released until everyone in the sect was arrested in 2004. Ferocity continued even in prison and the now sole member is out of prison publishing the material online. Reasearch this topic dude, it’s grim as hell. The Beasts of Satan was the equivalent of the inner circle but in Italy, really near where I live
X-Raided the best rapper alive recorded countless albums in various Cali state pens, plenty about studio quality with smuggled equipment, some payphone.
I'm really glad someone did a video on this band. I remember discovering this tape around 2017 and it always stood out to me, for a death thrash demo it felt so personal and filled with emotion, and the sound was surprisingly melodic at times which I always thought suited the feelings they were trying to convey. Rick's backstory of how he got incarcerated was one of the most messed up stories I had heard at the time, he clearly struggled with his mental health but it didn't excuse what he did. I remember reading the interview you linked back then and I found it intriguing that how were able to put out a death metal tape in prison and how they got the word out through zines. Definitely an interesting band for sure.
The lyrics for every song on Anasarca's album "Moribund" are poetry written by death row inmates. I know it doesn't quite count for this topic, but figured you might find it interesting. It's a great album, solid Death Metal.
That prison was probably high security at the time of the recording. Many prisons have band room that are descent at best. They probably had access to a 4 or 8 track Tascam. As far as them sounding happy….people adjust. Prison just becomes normal.
You should do a video on 90’s demo’s and fanzines Unlike today where you get everything back then magazines and fanzines is where you heard a lot of these bands like Retalliation. This is where I got a lot weird and interesting bands from. Sorry for the double post.
After reading Shabron’s and Rick’s crimes, I can see why they were denied parole. Both of them are terrible. I’m surprised a couple of dudes who were caught up in an armed robbery were cool with being in a band with those guys but I guess you can’t be too picky with band mates in prison.
Yoo I can't believe this happened on Mass! What town in the South shore are you from? Just curious as I was born in Stoughton and grew up in Easton and nobody ever talked about death metal with a Scott Walker record in the background ; hell yeah ❤
