- About Dr. Mary Claire Haver and The Galveston Diet -
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a passionate women’s health advocate who believes women in midlife deserve to live their best life. She cuts through fat-shaming and fads, so women are empowered with the science behind anti-inflammation nutrition.
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a wife, mom, physician, and entrepreneur who has devoted her adult life to women’s health. As a Board-Certified OBGYN in the Houston area, Dr. Haver has delivered thousands of babies, completed thousands of well-woman exams, counseled patients, taught residents, and did everything an academic professor and OBGYN could do.
As her patient population aged, Dr. Haver was overwhelmed with the number of complaints and concerns her patients had with weight gain while going through menopause. For years, she told her patients to eat less and exercise more. It wasn't until she experienced the changes of menopause and mid-life weight gain that she realized this advice doesn't work and ultimately led to her creating and developing a new program, The Galveston Diet.
The Galveston Diet is the first and only nutrition program created by a Female OBGYN, designed for women in menopause. The Galveston Diet helps women reach their health and wellness goals through an anti-inflammatory approach to nutrition. Dr. Haver believes in food's power to combat inflammation and highly recommends the unlimited benefits of intermittent fasting. As part of her ongoing research, she became certified in Culinary Medicine in 2019, specializing in medical nutrition.
Replay. 4 years later…thank god I’ve found you!!! I’ve been sharing you with all my menopausal friends. I’ll be 56 in a month and this feels like there is hope of a post menopausal life full of vitality!!!!
Just found you. Thank you for putting this attention on the menopausal part of life. Im 69 and have been fasting for a year and i love it and will use it for life. Had i had your information 20 years ago i would have chosen estrogen to help with hot flashes which im still experiencing today. I have 3 daughters in their 40s that will benefit from your knowledge. Thank you for helping women help themselves. ❤
Yes. Have done this about 3×'s a week but now I can increase.
Thank you for teaching on Inflammation - details etc!!
This is the video that changed my life... 💪🏻💖
Love this
Fasting was a lot easier than I thought. 16-8 really works. Thanks for all of the wonderful research you do!!!
You're so welcome!
Just came across this video. I am very excited to try your program. I am now 58 and post menopause. I have put on a good 50 lbs. I love that you suggest going slow getting down fasting before anything else. Bless you for all that you do!!
You got this!
I’m 67 and I’ve tried everything! Currently doing keto. Very slow progress. I have hypothyroidism and celiac disease. Had a hysterectomy at 40 so all kinds of hormonal issues. Going to give this a try. Fingers crossed. Always hopeful.
Hi. We invite you to learn more about us at www.galvestondiet.com
Replay... Been IF for about One month...I'm in it for long haul. No weight loss yet, but feel much better already. I'm a menopausal woman, looking forward to all the health benefits.
There are so many benefits to IF outside of just weight loss. So happy you are feeling better!
❤️ Thank you, Dr. Haver! ❤️
Our pleasure!
Replay. So much to learn!
Thank you!!!!!
I have started doing fasting many many years ago even before I heard it on social media and internet etc.it happened to me by accident when I happened to have my last kind of light dinner/meal before 6pm woke up the next day feeling really good and not eat till around 11ish now it's truly second nature to me my body have adapted so much.
Love this!
Learned about fasting 2006 around I believe. Wow! What an amazing way to live🎉
I've lost 60-70 lbs using 16/8 intermittent fasting! ❤ But....I know I'm not healthy. Hair loss, perimenopause, hot flashes, sleep issues, depression, sugar addiction!
Nutrition is key!
Thank you for your contributions to help women during menopause to lose weight and be healthier.
Just bought your book. I have been IF 16/8 and18/6 and haven’t been able to lose my menobelly. I have been low carb/low sugar but nothing has helped. Hopefully this will work🤷♀️
I love you and your personality! Such an advocate for us women ! Highly professional, kind and competent! You are a breath of fresh air, thank you for all what you do.
Thank you so much!!
I'm hooked on every video of yours I come across, I watch daily. I'm well versed in the right and wrong foods to eat and I've been on IF 16/8 since February 2023. I eat 2 to 3 meals daily and a lot of the time I'm not even hungry lol. Today I'm going to try your advice on 2 meals, 2 snacks and see how that goes. OB/GYN appointment Monday and I'm going armed with your good information, thank you, Dr. Haver ❤
Hi Dr. Haver.... Watching on replay. Thank you so much for this video. I had a bilateral hysterectomy two years ago and my body hasn’t been the same since. After watching your video I have hope... thanks again for sharing your knowledge 😊
Glad it was helpful!

Watching this December 2019 from Ontario Canada....interested in this...will be following!!
Wonderful!
Thank you for the replay! Help!!!!!!!
Any time!
Looking to start the Galveston diet, noticed a client had lost weight and looks amazing
Wonderful. e mail drhaver@galvestondiet.com with any questions.
I skip dinner because I sleep early. So I eat between 7am and 2pm. I work remotely so I'm not hungry much just being home. Working on cutting out all the sugars.
Thank you❤
You're welcome 😊
I just found your channel and absolutely love your disposition :) Looking forward to learning more. I'm not close to menopause (I'm 36) though but have been on KETO for over two years on and off and it just stopped working in the past 6 months. I used to do IF but I found it kicks up my anxiety. Do you have any advice for this? Thank you once again!
Since we are not a keto program, I think you will find our approach to nutrition refreshing and sustainable. Easing into IF over WEEKS is always the best way. Giving yourself the gift of time to become fast adapted could be the key for you! Learn more about us at www.galvestondiet.com
Hi! Thanks for your informational videos! I’m wondering how many hours you recommend fasting for. I understand that 12 hours is the minimum amount of time, but is there an ideal amount of time? Thanks!
16 hours is my ideal!
Ready to start
Love it! Welcome!
Thank u for ur videos. Love from Dubai.
My pleasure 😊
Do medium chain triglycerides break the fast? Coconut oil powder in coffee specifically?
❤️❤️❤️ Hi already been fasting! ❤️❤️ Great tips on inflamation here!! Been doing my own research since 2020 thank you!!
You got this!
I wish I could go to Galveston to see this doctor. I have been looking with no success.
Replay. Very interesting!
Glad you enjoyed it!
It’s like you are speaking to me! I’m 42 and I exercise 5 days a week and watch what I eat. I have been doing this consistently for 6 weeks and I’ve gained about 10lbs. I can’t lose anything. Very discouraging. I have hypothyroidism and I had a partial hysterectomy. I have cut out dairy and gluten to see if that was effecting me. Dairy is definitely not my friend. Have other issues as well, constipation, sometimes insomnia, and migraines every now and then. I keep coming across your stuff so I am finally listening😂.
Also I notice an LSU jacket??? Are you from La?? I’m about 30 mins outside of Baton Rouge!
I am from Lafayette. I invite you to learn more about us at www.galvestondiet.com
Just started following you. Will eventually start The Galveston Diet, after my hysterectomy in 2 weeks. I'd like to start with the 16/8 intermittent fasting. My question: As I ease into the fasting, am I allowed to drink tea(water with cucumbers) (water with chia seeds) during the 16 hours?
I am 55 years old and am on estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, magnesium, tumeric and naltrexone for inflammation. Also hydroxichloroquine for inflammation. I only take the hydroxichloroquine as needed tho.
I was told I have RA and then I’ve been told I don’t have it. Seen many drs, even naturopaths and no one really has been able to help me very much. I’m told I can’t eat so many things cuz they are inflammatory so life is not easy and not knowing what to eat is even more frustrating.
I have been doing intermittent fasting tho. I eat around noon and then around 5-6 pm and then am totally done eating anything by 8:00 pm. I can say it’s very discouraging to not know what to do or who to listen to who has good advice and information.
Past partial
Hysterectomy because of a prolapsed bladder when I was 33-34 years old and wasn’t on anything till about 49 years old. I honestly don’t know who is right or wrong and the Dr I am presently seeing has zero help for me except for the hormones I am taking. The inflammation issues he’s never been able to help me with that part.
I’ve seen RA drs and they said it’s my cross to bear in life and to live with it. So….
I’ve learned to live with it.
I have done carnivore for a while which helped but doesn’t help in wanting to eat other foods besides meats, eggs, butter, bacon,.. I saw your videos the other day and have watched a few. I’m sure I need some conversations with someone talking over what is the correct way to move forward. I just don’t know who that person is. I live in a small city where my options are 2.5 hours away at the closest drive for me.
I’ve been told not to eat any night shade veggies, potatoes, salads, beans, dairy, gluten, sugar, processed foods. Tho we don’t really eat processed foods. But I miss basic salads and veggies. When this all began I was told I couldn’t eat much and definitely nothing I enjoyed so food became an issue. Any thoughts?
I’m open to hear what might be able to help me. Maybe you won’t even see this tho.. just giving it a shot to see if there any helpful information you can give me.
Thank you so much for sharing your heart. I am 49, walking through Perimenopause. ugh! No matter how fast I have been running from it, gaining weight has caught up to me. No matter what I am doing!
May I ask, I have uterine Fibroids. We found them when we were pregnant with our last bundle 8 years ago. They do cause chaos for me in many ways. Does this lifestyle help with maintaining fibroids? Plus, I do have a large family, does this lifestyle work for all ages? Plus, my hubby? (P.s. I think he has a form of menopause he is walking through as well. :) )
I was diagnosed with Ovarian, Uterine and Endometrial cancers at the same time. I did receive an Ablation prior to my surgery of Full hysterectomy, cervix, and lymph nodes. Healing was awful. Horrible infection, PICC line, blot clot etc. Dx of Fibromyalgia, arthritis and other issues with both hands and spine. I was a lover of Beach-body, but now my body aches of pain just from walking. I enjoy cleaning when I am stress, but overdoing causes an issues. Acid Reflux is a serious issue and I have stopped eating many foods. I have reduced my meat intake, fried foods, and pop not a fan anyway. Will the diet help me? I miss my former physique. I just want to just be healthier. Thank you.
I have antiphospholipid/anticardiolipin syndrome with multi-joint osteonecrosis. I’m in menopause and can’t seem to keep off the stomach weight. I could use some hints for this and also a way to avoid middle of the night eating. Thanks!
Replay, looking forward to learning more.
More to come!
Do you drink coffee with creamer? I think that is the most difficult for me to stop. I use a healthier creamer, not dairy, and I am mindful of the ingredients, but still a creamer. If no coffee, what is your morning routine? Love your enthusiasm!
I don't, black but flavored with cinnamon.
Is this diet good for men? My diet issues are sabataged by hubby having junkier foods in house and not wanting what I eat.
I joined as a signature member over a year ago and never knew how to access the information, I am 69 years old on a fixed income. I would love to try the boot camp. Do you have any scholarships for people like me? I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I have suffered from PTSD from a traumatic event. I eat healthy foods, but can't lose weight.
email us at success@galvestondiet.com
Hi...I've been watching you for a month or so. I've been going thru menopause for years and I also have Hypothyroidism so I'm a basket case! I can do Keto for about 2 weeks and then I cheat with a carb. I'm wondering if this will work better since you do have a few carbs. Love your videos! Make more recipe videos please.
Email drhaver@galvestondiet.com
I have PCOS and reached menapause, will the Galveston diet work for me?
Doctor is you would make clear cut videos getting straight to the point be great:)
I will keep that in mind. Thank you!
PLEASE DO NOT LET ANYONE JUDGE ME!!!!i can fast for the recommendation... it the alcohol that keeps me fasting...i know it’s not good... and I can eat the healthy meals when it’s time to eat (I do all the cooking) but while fasting it’s the alcohol that is destroying my goal!!???? I know your answer is yes but just please confirm this for me.... Obviously I’ve must work on other areas of my life... again please no judgement!!
No one will judge you. Facts: when drinking alcohol, people consume 30% more calories, usually of inflammatory foods - just the facts. Alcohol does break the fast and more than one glass per day is inflammatory. Hope this helps!
Please tell me do you recommend two bigger or three smaller meals in 8 hours eating window? And is goat cheese suitable on this diet?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Replay thank you 😊 ❤
Thank you too!
I don’t really eat vegetables 🥦 I don’t like them.. I am also Latina and have been cooking my rice and beans and tortillas, so it’s hard to get away from cooking this way. How can I change…
fasting is great. easy for me to do.
Love this!
Hi, I'm 40 yo. I have high prolactin and a micro pituitary tumor. Would this diet work for me? I have found my metabolism is slower. No thyroid issues though, according to my labs.
Do you have a vegetarian or vegan options?
Yes
Very interested !! ❤️❤️👍❤️
So glad! www.galvestondiet.com
I’m allergic to corn and dairy. Will this still work for me?
Yes!
Thoughts on WASA crackers? I LOVED rye.
How does that affect someone who has adrenal issues? Meaning, I’ve always been told to eat some in thing an hour before I go to bed. Just in general, do you recommend for those ppl who have adrenal or thyroid issues?
I’m about to join. I’m 52. Hashimoto’s and peri menopause. I’m up 40 lbs in the last 12 years and feeling gross and know I have an inflammation…I can feel it. What are your thoughts on using hello fresh and or thrive market to aide in this?
Our family does use Fresh and Lean - we take them to work when we don't have enough time to meal prep.
Does this work for people with PCOS and insulin resistence?
It can be helpful to decrease your insulin resistance which will only help that condition.
Joining today xoxoxo
Fabulous!
Sounds great
Wonderful
I’m 42, had rny last June. Only down 65lbs. I had a partial hysterectomy. I’m stuck... will this work for me???
So many of our students are just like you! We have a $ back guarantee!
How come I can’t fine Any reviews from Norma people .. Who has tried it
Hmmm, we have tons of testimonals at www.galvestondiet.com
I am checking out your diet ,I am on a compound cream for hormone replacement but this weight will not budge . Is your meal plans a monthly charge or a one time fee?
It is a one time fee. HRT has not been shown to aid in weight loss. It can help with belly fat distribution (estrogen).
I'm new. Interested.
I'm also insulin resistant age65 can you help me
Are you still doing this diet? The recent comments are like a year ago. Going through perimenopause/menopause now and doctors are just ignorant right now while I suffer, so I've been doing my own research, trial and error kinda thing. I'm so interested in your diets....I need help trying to figure out what to eat. HRT isn't an option right now. Doctors won't prescribed it to me because I'm not in full menopause.... just beginning... hardly bleeding now. Hope everything's ok... with you! In Jesus Name.
Oh, I'm anemic now from bleeding for 2 weeks in the beginning. Had no issues then....just always tired. Now, my symptoms are just off the hook. No hot flashes. Just everything else that doctors aren't confirming that it's perimenopause/menopause related, which I know these symptoms are. Hence, doing this crap on my own. Me and Jesus. I just started Estroven to see if that does anything, but I'm not counting on it. Anyway, thanks.
Replay : Hi I'm a 37 years old. I have had a total hysterectomy 4 months ago. I cant lose weight and I have been doing keto. I have noticed flip flops with my heart, hot flashes, night sweats, etc. Would you recommend hormone replacement along with this diet?
It is time to see your doctor. Heart changes need to be evaluated as soon as possible, and I would not recommend hormone replacement therapy without testing of your hormone levels. If your ovaries were removed at the time of surgery - then you should ask your doctor to discuss therapy.
@@maryclairehavermd8473 Thank you! I have an appointment next week.

If I mean I've been fasting for years. I do a 36-hour fast like maybe once every few weeks. Been trying to adapt back onto intermittent fasting with the 16/8 schedule, but I'm so fucking busy that I often don't have time to eat until it's been about 10 hours since I brought my fast initially. I know I need to just not eat until the next day and stop like putting it off therefore extending my eating window.. But I know that even the IF schedule is just part of it. So the fasting part actually comes pretty natural to me. But it's obvious that what I'm eating is still not serving me seeing as how my belly just keeps getting bigger even though I had lost and kept off 50 lb until recently. This sucks so much ass. I need help to figure it out and I wish you would just fucking get to the content already. Sorry I love you but damn
❤❤❤
im a type 2 diabetic, can you break your fast into 2 fasting sections? I work nites my doc says she likes intermitant fasting and i can do it long as i watch my blood sugar; what about like fast for 12, eat for 6 and fast again for 6? as a diabetic on toujeo and trulicity i can't go more than 12 hrs in a row with fasting?
email us at success@galvestondiet.com
With fasting can I have coffee with heavy cream?
I am a 'fasting purist' and have zero calories during my fast - so I drink my coffee black. Calories in cream will break your fast. You are welcome to enjoy cream after you break your fast.
Is it a Keto diet?
No, we are not keto!
what about water fast
it is important to stay hydrated during your fast.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you!
