    Im asian and i have natural double eyelids, but sometimes when I wake up my right eye would become a monolid and my left eye would become a tripple lid. It usually lasts from a day to a week. What are the causes of this?

      Hi@@soonyun3862,
      Sorry to hear that, but there are instances where the eyelids are temporarily affected by swelling. If this issue persists, you can consider surgery to reestablish the connection between your eyelid skin and eyelid muscle called the levator muscle to restore a double eyelid crease. I hope this helps you.

    I'm an Asian and on some days I have a deep double eyelid on my left eye, some days on my right. Both my eyes are either monolids or triple eyelids most of the time though. And sometimes, very very rarely, both of my eyes both have double eyelids. When I was a child, up until around 11-12 years old, I had permanent double eyelids on both eyes but now it's super inconsistent. I've been curious as to why this happens. Is it because of sleeping habits, hydration level, etc? Having inconsistent eyelids is really annoying as it makes me self conscious especially when my eyes are monolids. Also looks like I got punched in one eye in pics as it looks really unsymmetrical.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD

      Hi catbloom,
      Multiple eyelid creases are usually caused by a weak connection between the eyelid skin and the muscle that lifts the eyelid called the levator muscle. The only way to strengthen the connection between the skin and the muscle for a more stable and defined eyelid crease is with double eyelid surgery. You can watch the video more closely for details. Hi@@alexeyvishnyakov8132,
      As detailed in the video, multiple creases, or multiple intermittent creases are likely due to a weak connection between the eyelid skin, and the muscle that lifts the upper eyelid. This connection can be strengthened with surgery for a stable crease/ stable double eyelid fold. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    How to explain me being mono eyelid for 30 years, and about one month ago, one of my eyes started showing crease, now it's very stable, the other one is now gradually becoming double eyelids as well...i did not undergo any kind of plastic surgery...Both of my parents have beautiful and very defined double eyelids.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nyssa Tang,
      It may be due to stretched or redundant eyelid. In people with an eyelid crease all their life, stretched skin due to aging may look like hooded skin over the eyes, but it is possible for some with a monolid with same condition to look like a new crease. A physical examination is needed to determine the exact cause. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Jian Asher,
      Sorry to hear about your problem, but waking up early one day is not going to cause you to have a monolid from a previous double eyelid. Hello Dr. Prasad! Your videos are extremely informative and I appreciate the special attention you pay to Asian eyes. I am curious about what is or is/not considered a double eyelid. I'm Korean and my eyes are somewhat similar to the patient shown at 4:27 , who appeared to have asymmetrical eyes in the "before" photo. His left eye in the "before" seems to have a "hint" of a double eyelid, while his right eye appears to be a typical monolid. Would you consider his left eye to be a true double eyelid? Also, for this type of asymmetry, would it be possible to "fix" the right eye to match the left eye (rather than doing both eyes like the patient shown)? Also, for an older patient like me (51), would it make sense to perform some kind of procedure to preemptively address sagging (i.e., ptosis) of the upper eyelid skin in addition to addressing the epicanthal fold issue? I have no sagging issues currently; however, both of my parents have extreme ptosis, so I know it is inevitable. Thanks!

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi hejiranyc,
      I would consider his left eye before as a shallow, undefined eyelid crease, so surgery is still needed to make it a deep, and defined double eyelid. Double eyelid surgery creates defined creases, and not shallow creases like his left eyelid before surgery, so what you suggest to match a shallow crease isn't likely possible.
      There is a difference in eyelid ptosis, which is a weakened or detached levator muscle; and dermatochalasis, which is eyelid hooding or sagging due to stretched or redundant skin. Both these issues cannot be treated in advance as a preventive measure as this would risk eyelid function in opening and closing the eyes. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      An intermittent eyelid crease may be caused by a weak connection between the eyelid skin and the muscle that lifts the eyelid called the levator muscle. The only way to strengthen the connection between the skin and the muscle for a more stable crease is with double eyelid surgery.

      Hi kae san,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      One of the main reasons why people have double eyelid surgery is that it makes the eyes appear bigger, and more open, so it's not only about creating a crease/ double eyelid fold. It is completely understandable that you like the appearance of monolids. It's also important to keep in mind that people without an eyelid crease want to have them first to make themselves happy, not others. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      You likely had a weak connection on your previous double eyelid. Surgery is the only way to make a connection between your eyelid skin and eyelid muscle to create a crease/double eyelid fold. You can consider eyelid tape/glue, but these only make a temporary fold in your eyelid skin. I hope this clarifies things for you.

An intermittent or lost eyelid crease may be caused by a weak connection between the eyelid skin and the muscle that lifts the eyelid called the levator muscle. The only way to strengthen the connection between the skin and the muscle for a more stable crease is with double eyelid surgery, as shown in the video. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi I have a question! If one frequently uses double eyelid tapes (tape you put on to create a strong defined eyelid crease) would the levator muscle get used to the fold and eventually make a connection with the folded skin the double eyelid tape makes and turn into a strong/somewhat of a double eyelid?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Bob,
      The natural connection between the levator muscle and the eyelid skin is made with fibers, which will not establish from using eyelid tape. This fibrous connection is replaced by sutures in double eyelid surgery, which then heals over after the sutures are removed to create a stable eyelid crease.
      Pulling eyelid tape repeatedly can actually damage or stretch the thin levator muscle over time, leading to eyelid ptosis. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi@@sonamdema543,
      As detailed in the video, an unstable eyelid crease is due to a weak connection between the eyelid skin, and the muscle that lifts the eyelid. • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi angelica,
      A double eyelid is the result of a natural connection between the eyelid skin, and the muscle that lifts the eyelid called the levator muscle. Constant manipulation of the eyelid skin with tape or glue can weaken this natural connection, which may result in a monolid. An examination is needed to determine if the connection has been weakened, resulting in a monolid. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi @cornsoup3213,
      It depends on the meaning of "uneven". Uneven height between the two eyelids is caused by bone structure, as both halves of your skull or formed separately, so there is a natural asymmetry between most people of 1-2mm that is unnoticeable to others because it's so common. Uneven eyelid creases described in the video is caused by the strength of the fibrous connection between the upper eyelid skin, and the muscle that lifts the eyelid called the levator muscle. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Asmr,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. The eyelid crease is a result of internal fibrous connection between the eyelid skin, and the muscle that lifts the eyelid called the levator muscle, so the only way to replicate that natural connection is with surgery. A crease that disappeared is likely due to a natural connection that wasn't so strong. Dry eyes, and clogged oil glands aren't directly associated with the connection between the eyelid skin and muscle. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi@@mmgst,
      As stated in the title, and in the video, some people can have multiple, undefined eyelid creases because of a weak eyelid skin-to-muscle connection. A stable eyelid crease/double eyelid can be created with double eyelid surgery for this condition. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi @exohamster2658,
      While it is possible to perform double eyelid surgery on only one eyelid, your natural double eyelid needs to be examined for stability, depth, strength of connection, symmetry, and how it would appear with your surgically altered eyelid. I would have to perform a physical examination of both your eyelids before I can give you a definitive answer. I hope you understand.

      Hi luminte,
      You may have a less defined, or shallower crease due to a not so strong connection between eyelid skin, and the levator muscle that lifts the eyelid. Double eyelid surgery can make a shallow crease deeper and more defined, and can also make monolid a double eyelid. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi JaiChan,
      Please do not massage your eyelids as it won't accomplish what you want, and it can make things worse. Eyelid skin is the thinnest skin in the body, so it's very delicate, and you can loosen the muscle connection that establishes the crease to make it worse.
      You can consider strengthening the connection between the eyelid skin, and muscle to form a stable crease when you are a little older, but I usually don't recommend eyelid surgery for someone your age who is still growing and maturing. I hope this helps you.

      Hi Chicken Dinner,
      Sorry, the eyelid crease is a result of internal fibrous connection between the eyelid skin, and the muscle that lifts the eyelid called the levator muscle, so the only way to replicate that natural connection is with surgery. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Maya L,
      No, this is caused by a weakened connection between the eyelid skin, and the muscle that lifts the eyelid. Too much screen time can strain your eyes, while a lack of sleep can cause temporary dark circles or puffiness in the eyes, temporary droopiness, but won't affect eyelid crease definition. I hope this clarifies things for you.
