    Excellent instruction. As a woodworker, I can tell you that the energy saving method to sanding is that, if you have the means, to remove the bulk of the unwanted material with a courser sandpaper and work your way to fine grit paper. It may be the case that with resin coasters, this grit variation process is not necessarily but perhaps on a special large piece, it may be something worth doing.
    Keep up the magic!

      Absolutely you are right. Here on the island I didn't have a lot of choice, and there is only the slightest edge to take off thankfully.

    Thank you for making this video ! I’m fairly new to resin and I’ve looked n2 other videos that deal with this issue and your video is the best one I’ve come across, you explain every step of the way and I really do appreciate that. I am definitely subscribing to your channel. 🌺

    I just poured a crackle effect coaster. They turned out beautiful, but even the top is gorgeous. Was looking for exactly this as these can literally be reversible coasters. Thank you!

    I've found that if i fill the coaster mouldright to the very top, i then get a very slight concave (dome) on the back side, so slight that when i put 3 little adhesive cork feet on it the problem is solved.

    I have a question for you.
    You said that you use resin to get rid of the rim, but do you use the hardener with the resin? You didn't mention it.
    Many thanks x

    Just curious, when you make your coasters reversible do you add any bumpers to keep them from sliding? I am currently trying to make reversible coasters and feel like they will slide on fine furniture

    Hi, ths ks for the video tutorial. I am fairly new to this and i tried adding resin to get the dome and after 3 days it is still sticky on top. What ratio did you use for your resin? I thought i did half and half of A and B fro. This casting set i got from hobby lobby

    • @DebyatMixedMediaArts
      @DebyatMixedMediaArts  ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like the resin wasn't mixed properly. Either the 50/50 ratio isn't right for your resin (check the bottle) or it wasn't all mixed together well. Try scraping or sanding it off and doing another coat. That might save it.

    Hi Deby, thanks for the information. I have a question... If I wanted to put a thin layer of resin on the top of my coaster to make it extra smooth, do I have to sand it first? will the resin not stick unless its sanded?

    • @DebyatMixedMediaArts
      @DebyatMixedMediaArts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know that most resin brands recommend lightly sanding resin between coats, but sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. For a large artwork to hang on the wall, I would sand to make sure the layers were well stuck because I wouldn't want it to peel under its own weight. But for a small coaster, it will most likely be absolutely fine without sanding.

    I have been pouring resin bunnies and they need a glaze coating to be shiny. However, if I elevate them onto a bottle cap, I get drips which are difficult to remove. Suggestions? I have some painted with pva glue now and will see if I can do something with that, but it is so frustrating to get a lovely bunny with an icky bottom
    edge!

    • @DebyColes
      @DebyColes 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps try using a lot less resin for the top coat. Just brush on a small amount, enough for the shine, but not enough to run off. Then you can only ever get the tiniest amount at the bottom and a quick sand should level it off.

    please can you tell us what make of Resin you used? Most of the resins seem to demand that you mix a larger quantity as a minimum.

    • @DebyatMixedMediaArts
      @DebyatMixedMediaArts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a while back now so I can't remember which resin I used for which project. It would most likely have been either Art Resin or MasterCast 1-2-1. I'm not aware that either has a restriction on mixing small amounts.

    I used art resin but my coffe mug sticks to the coaster then drops on the floor how do I prevent the sticking.

    • @DebyatMixedMediaArts
      @DebyatMixedMediaArts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sadly Art Resin is not a good choice for coasters. I find it is too soft and sticky even for other projects too. You'll need to find one that is heat resistant and then it won't soften and stick to hot coffee cups.

    • @DebyatMixedMediaArts
      @DebyatMixedMediaArts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If there is a cloudiness to your piece I don't think there is anything you can do. The resin perhaps may not have been mixed properly or may have reacted to something mixed into the resin, such as a pigment. Sorry this happened to you.

      Deby at Mixed Media Crafts , Haven't been able to do much any more Deby. Health has been shot for some time. Iast interests were rockhounding, faceting, cabachons, making jewelry. Oil painting, Bob Ross technique. Wood working for awhile. Gardening, love to just eat while weeding. Just about anything for a challenge, copd on O2 ,two aneurysms, back also all keep me on my back for large periods of time. I'm
      Also a lover of fractal images of which I have made quite afew of. Have a photographic darkroom, can't do any darkroom work, lungs can't handle the fumes anymore. Follow you guys and having some supplies sent in. Have made one pour so far, but pain keeps me down and oxycodone keeps me duaaaaa. Hope to put up some fractals sometime . Have had a great time with them ,the pours have reminded me strongly of them in many ways. ---Dave...

    Hello Deby. I love watching your videos. I attempted to make a resin coaster as well however when I popped it out from the silicone mold it looked dull. How do get it to look glossy like yours?

    • @DebyatMixedMediaArts
      @DebyatMixedMediaArts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The surface of the resin reflects what it was sat on, so if the mold is smooth and glossy the surface of the resin will be too. If the mold has a matte finish, then the resin takes on that matt finish as well. You could try to carefully add another layer of resin over the top to make it glossy but its extra expense and extra work. Better to make sure to get a really glossy mold to start with. I have some mold suggestions saved here - amazon.com/shop/debyatacrylicpouring
