- The divergent arc was big finish's grand experiment. Taking the doctor out of the whoniverse and depositing him in a universe where time travel isn't a thing. SOmething that causes a time lord pain literally and figeratively.
it was sadly cut short on account new who returning and them realising that experimental wank was only really apealing to specific parts of the fandom that weren't new who fans, but this was truly the last great horrah of the wilderness years and contains one of the best stories that bigfinish has ever committed to audio, so its pretty good all considered.
As usual all these stories are available on spotify for free in australia and the UK and they are fairly cheap on the bigfinish website so if weird experimental shit appeals to you give them a listen.

As underdeveloped as the divergent Universe is, I do really like most of the actual stories At least.

Even though they very clearly _are_ an arc I think they tend to work better as standalone stories.
It is so very nice to see more review content on the 8th doctor. All I really had before was He Who Moans from Stubagful, which is great, but it's always nice to see different voices on these things.
I love stubagful. I was hesitant to do these because he already covered them so well but its just fun talking about these, and while I love his ms paint recreations of scenes Im better at it anyway
I started listening to Doctor Who audio dramas through apple-play with The Sirens of Time and Storm Warning. After Zagreus, I forced myself to buy Big Finish just so I could finish the Charlotte Pollard stories before moving onto the Eighth Doctor Adventures. Ho-lee-hell, was I not disappointed. I’m now encroaching upon the Time War arc with Dark Eyes 3, Doom Coalition, and Stranded all still on my to-listen list.

But for real. A lot of this arc is really interesting and i think it's actually really good
It is. I just wish they didn't end it early. They had to cram 2 series of plot into the last 2 to wrap it all up which is never a good idea and made it a hurried mess at the end alla game of thrones. Otherwise I think its pretty good.
My best guess is that when they say that there's no time, they mean that there's no Time Vortex.
The Last is only sad on a surface level. It's beautiful and about how life can be reborn even in the bleakest of circumstances.
I thought I'd read somewhere that the reason they did the Divergtvent Arc was because the show was coming back and they didn't know if they'd be able to continue the range along side the series so this was a way to continue with the 8th Doctor. But then when the show didn't cause a problem they brought the 8th Doctor back into 'our' universe. I may be mis-remembering though as it was a long time since listening to these audios.

im honestly suprised how fond i was with all of these stories, even the twilight kingdom was like, at least a fun story with these characters at least
i listened to most of it on my flights when i traveled to new york and listening to them while bing stuck in a plane for 10 hours helped me get more invested that's for sure hehe, Faith Stealer is still my fav, followed closly by Caerdoia, and Scherzo is so iconic and fasinating to me so that was fun
a funny story while i listened to faith stealer that you might enjoy: my friend has fallen asleep while i listened to it and i was getting load with my laughter and enjoyment of it, so i decided to go to the middle of the plane next to the kitchen to listen to it where i won;t disterb anybody. i was in clear view of some seats, but at that point i was so tierd i did not mind. i was getting to the church of oops (i love that for many people its the best one its so good) and i was laughing and freaking out from that moment, and the people in those seats i mentioned looked at me every couple of minutes because of it, and while i was relistening to that part, i felt something in my shoe, so as im saying "doctor oh my god" i go and look around in my shoe, and i take out... m&ms. apperently a kid in front of me spilled his m&ms between the seats and it landed inside my shoe.
so i take out these m&ms, and i just... stare at them for a full 2 minutes, because my brain is still pretty tierd hehe, and then i just decide to eat them, then i hear a slight gasp! and i look up, and i realize that for the people who were seating close to me, just witnesed a pretty weid person being very load, searching through their shoe... and findinf m&ms in said shoe... and then procided to stare at them... ad then chug them inn their mouth!! it was at this point that i decided that i should maybe return to my seats, but not until i let out "woops be praised!" lol

To be honest the natural history of fear was kind of ripped off by (I won’t say who’s) comics, however I still liked it.
Can't wait for Terror Firma! My favorite 8th Doctor story.

I very much agree, they had an idea but didn't quite find a throughline to make it work as a saga. That said, this was when I was at my peak of collecting BF stories, so some of them hold a special place form me, especially Caerdroia
Just finished this ark loved it! Felt like a kid again expecting new doctor who story’s that made me question how far they could go with the doctor and his story’s

Thanks for another great review. I really enjoyed the divergent arc and, like you, I wish it had been developed more fully. It is a shame that it didn't get the opportunity to really shine.

Slight edit you'll want to make in the description; I'm not sure about Australia but in the UK the furthest we get in the Main Range for free is Zagreus.

@@thatDamnAusWhoFan Yeah it is funky. We also only get the First Series of EDAs so anyone who wants to ease into the medium with a more Nu-Who esque Doctor and Adventures but isn't ready to deal with the pricing of the rest of them by the end of that is in for a weird viewing order.
While yes the doctor is a dick to Charlie but it's also understandable, if I'd just sacrificed myself to save someone and they then went and doomed themselves with me, I'd he a little bit pissed.
I get what youre saying but I'm gonna say no. He made this mess for himself and it would have been brilliant to hear charley tell him off because he wouldn't be there if he had listened to her and respected her wishes. She is not worth more than everyone one or everything that ever has or will exist and she knew that, and the fact that he decided to risk everything that she tried to protect is not her fault and personally I would be furious at the smug prick were I in her shoes.
I wouldn't compare the doctor being controlled by the Zagreus part of him to slap charley to someone who has full control over themselves and then slaps a woman.

They’ve done further adventures with charley and lucie miller, i think they should do further divergent universe adventures set between caedroia and the next life, since theres a big time gap there. Would be cool to see 8, Charley and C’rizz back together and explore more weird stories
