The stained glass windows would look quite great as a backdrop for the bar, with some shelves in front with lovely bottles and lighting behind them, maybe. 🤔 and black frame or so..
I have been thinking about that for weeks. I would look so nice with light behind and glass shelving for the bottles😊 Since he isn’t decorating the convent in the style it originally French manner for the time period anyway , I think it would make nice feature !! I was also thinking about turning them sideways they would be nice to give to Simon for him to use as windows in the second part of his building that he haven’t started restoring yet. The part with the bread oven at the back, we’re he said he had to dig out the dirt floor or something . That would look great in a living room. I think the walls there needs a lot of repair anyway, so making place for big windows shouldn’t be a problem. I know he’s already built up parts of the wall of the part of the house he’s working on now. In the part that was used for animals, I think one entire corner was gone.
You can hang those windows horizontally from the beams. Beautiful glass.(I am a glass Artist myself) those would cost a fortune to replicate.those clear windows you revealed are keepers too!!
Glass artist here in Canada as well. I thought the same thing. Those would cost a pretty penny to replace today for sure. I’d keep them for now if I were Billy. So many options for them decoratively. They may come in handy later on. Or consider selling them to assist with the Reno’s.
I mean this as a compliment. When I was a kid, there was a cartoon character called Mighty Mouse. He was small of stature but incredibly strong. He always was helping those around him. Yanis reminds me of Mighty Mouse. Always ready to help and stronger than you would have ever believed. Anyway … cheers all. Thanks for the Sunday episode
Would love the leaded windows suspended above the bar,as someone else mentioned with LED lights, if not I am sure Simon could find a very aesthetic use in his rustic cottage. If I didn,t live in Tasmania I would be there in a minute. One of my favorite hobbies is creating with glass . Keep us informed Billy ,I have become very attached to said windows,a bit like chandelier in Kitchen🌏🇦🇺🦘🫶🏻
So idea for the stained glass: horizontal orientation of all 3 on top on one another, back lit by LEDs, behind the bar itself with glass shelves in the front to store the liquor bottles. Big impact, small price, recycling! ❤❤❤
Yes I remember Simon admired them. He might use them as a partition in his farmhouse. How he repurposed a piece of furniture for his bathroom was brilliant.

Opening up the window makes such a difference. I’m hoping you might leave at least one of those walls the original stone. It’s so beautiful and would add a lot to a moody atmospheric bar. I’m an American and we don’t have much, if any, of that, so it’s appealing. But I’m sure you have a vision of your own. Love watching the spaces evolve.
Those stained glass windows would look amazing as a false ceiling somewhere in the convent, with lighting from above. It would be such a shame for them to leave the convent. I-m sure Michael would have some great ideas for how to make use of them.
My husband made a beautiful bar with a lovely beveled glass door. He used it as the front of the bar and put led light strips around the framing. So stunning
I commented recently that dust turns black at fairly low temperatures and the wall above that radiator is a perfect example. Warm air rises from the radiator and moves baked dust that's then deposited on the wall. The point of the glass might actually have been to divert the current of warm air away from the wall and reduce the amount of blackening. Old radiator systems ran flow temperatures of up to 90 C and that's easily enough to cause this kind of dust staining. The place where I work had some really bad examples until some recent paint work and I suspect the stains will return over time because the heating system is the same.
In the 80’s my husband was caretaker for an abandoned seminary. We loved that place. It’s so satisfying watching what you all are doing to that beautiful convent. Hello from the USA! 🇺🇸
@thepethricks You could pour clear bar top epoxy over the glass, protect the underneath with semi opaque plexiglass, and then light it from below. You'd have a beautiful bar top to serve from.
You can build a wall unit with lighting using the stained glass. Don't quickly dump them. There's plenty of ways to incorporate the glass doors in the bar, dining, or library.
Don't forget weekends are supposed to be family time Billy - your boys are only small once and it would be sad not to make memories with them and Gwen . . . And you mustn't wear yourself out. 😊
What an incredible difference removing the "upgrades" from the BAR.has made! Changes the whole vibe! It will be yet another wonderful ✨️ project to watch unfold. Thanks for this Sunday bar reno video!❤
Have you done any homework on the stained glass window/doors, Billy? There could be fascinating history behing their construction and installation. Very much a 1960s trend... I think you might have been away, but like others, I'm sure Simon said he'd love to re-home these windows at his place; they'd look gorgeous there. 😍
I wonder if they came from another convent of the same order? Convents merged after the 1960’s in the post Vatican council era. They remind me of some of the stained glass internal doors I remember seeing in the Vatican City
Yanis = 'The Mighty Atom',what a hard worker you are. . you are so keen to learn, you just take everything in your stride and just get on with it. 💪 Your family must be so proud ❤
My suggestion for the stained glass windows is to put them as a focal point behind the bar with the premium liquors usually are. Then, light them from the back to show them off. It will make people look at the expensive stuff and maybe decide to try one. I know that sounds awful, but that is what is done in business. Look at your grocery store, retail store or hardware store. The name brand or more expensive items are at eye level or at the front of the store. It is all the same. It is merchandising!
Billy, Yanis and Alex. Thank-you for this episode! I found your problem solving and use of Crack-On hard hats SPOT ON. Creative use of the lift and saw-all very smart. Very entertaining fast action using the Yanis cam. Yanis is a NATURAL DEMO MAN.
I hope you will offer the doors to Simon before giving them to someone else…..he hinted broadly! Cell call, perhaps?! You and Yanis made sort work of taking them off their hinges! Why would they ever cover that window? Glad you realized it was there! Love from Pennsylvania, USA 💕🌷🐻
And....let there be light! Wow! What a difference it made taking down the walls & doors covering the windows. Now, I can see how great this space is going to be as a bar with lots of light streaming in. Billy, you truly are a visionary 🤔.
I love the different trxtures of the original windows! Its ashame yhe stained glass panels are from a totally different era. They will make someone very happy though because they are beautiful!
Billy has a design in mind. The glass in the doors don’t have that design, or any design other than “sort of Mondrian” or Stained Glass 101 class. Maybe he should sell the doors instead of giving them away. But a designer wouldn’t ruin the design of a space with large objects just because the large objects happen to be sitting nearby.
You were right - lovely as those leaded glass doors were, they were not for that space. I didn't think they were either. LOVE the original windows and those frames - wow. Can't wait for more denouement.
Amazing how much light comes through into the bar area. I would save the stain glass windows to use at the back of the bar (backsplash) or give it to Michael to use for his Greenhouse project, it would really nice there, or even just use a few pieces. Enjoy your day.
That room is going to look AMAZING as a bar. I truly hope that Billy retains those unique iron Cross shaped windows, or replicates them in Oak. They do a fantastic job of representing the history of the building.
Those windows are beautiful! Glad whoever changed that room didn't damage them. Yannis is such a hard worker! No doubt he'll be an awesome barman when the time comes. 😊
Absolutely beautiful stain glass panels ..hanging from chains in a large room With high ceilings they would be stunning ... Or a you noticed in the horizontal they are lovely ,,, a back drip To A Beautiful bar area with lighting behind is A Great idea
The glass would look great on top of a dividing wall between the bar and a seating area next to the windows, they will also help mitigate sound when people are conversing.
Such a transformation taking the curve out - very well done both. Whilst a big task to remove all the curves the benefit will be remarkable in terms of light & space for the room and so much easier to plan a layout then.👍👍👍
Can’t tell you how glad i am you took those stained glass doors off. They were skilfully made but they don’t suit you’ve already achieved. (Which was me trying to come up with a polite way of saying they’re bloody ugly!) they looked very 70’s, along with the way that skirting was constructed, I wonder if that’s about when the nuns changed that room. It looks so much nicer now with the original window 😊

I agree with others the stained glass panels in the doors could be reworked they are much nicer horizontally than vertically and might look nice back-lit behind the bar. The glass panels could be removed from the doors and worked into an oak or iron frame to fit the space behind the bar. I can't wait to see the room with all the windows opened up it is going too be so much bigger and brighter. Hi Billy, your swimming pool looks odd, straight out the convent door and into the pool. It needs to be in line with the wall and a patio area between the pool and convent. That way, you can keep your wonderful planters.
When I saw you put the panel on its side. My thought was why not build out a couple of inches and put a light behind one of the panels. Then you build your bottle shelves in front of the backlight panel.
The stained glass windows would look quite great as a backdrop for the bar, with some shelves in front with lovely bottles and lighting behind them, maybe. 🤔 and black frame or so..

Hi, yes, I remember Mighty Mouse. Remember the song: 🎼🎶🎵here I come to save the day🎼🎶🎵A cartoon I loved to watch as a child.❤❤
🎶 Here I come to save the day! That means that Mighty Yanis is on his way… 🎵
Mighty Mouse is my nickname for my daughter.
Mighty Mouse was one of my favorite cartoons.❤
"here i come to save the day,
Mighty Yanis is on his way."
I believe he flew, too!
(Edit: with his right arm/fist out.)
I really like how it's second nature for Billy to compliment and show his appreciation to the people around him ❤️ 😊😊
Billy always gives credit where credit is due.
A natural born leader.
Yes, but this time he did not mention Alex who was filming on his Sunday too. Probably getting paid as I assume Janis was.
I remember someone mentioning hanging the door(s) above the bar with lights behind. That would look amazing
Maybe. Definitely consideration should be given to retention/re use in situ
Billy said they weren’t the “look” he was going for. Can’t wait to see his ideas! Always spot on!
yes, hanging horizontally above the bar with stylish back floodlights above the stain glass will look awesome.
It would be a retro look, but I agree that it could look amazing if done properly

Totally agree with this person. It will be beautiful. I'm sure you already have something in mind, but hey it's worth a shot to imagine it.

It's amazing how much light was blocked by that curved wall. What a beautiful window!
The original windows are beautiful. I’m glad you uncovered those jewels.
Remember to put the hinge halves with the glass doors... May use them in the future.

Such cool windows. Horizontally they look like they belong as clerestory windows in a Frank Lloyd Wright creation

Agreed, the 70's were a design disaster 😂

Yanis seemed sad watching Billy doing demo. But he came to life once he started swinging his big hammer. He is "The Hammer of the Convent"!!!
Wow! What an incredible transformation! That huge window and the light!
A couple of those stained glass doors supsended horizontally, illuminated and behind the bar would look awesome.
Utilize them in the bar or let Simon have them, please Billy. They are amazing. I want to see them again :)
Those doors are beautiful! Stand them up connected as a room divider or sideways as a bannister/railing

Let there be light!! The glass on those windows is beautiful with its wavy design. Excellent job guys 👍🏼!
Incorporate the stained glass panels in the back bar at Chez Yanis. Backlight the panels with dimmable LED’s.
Yannis did a great job in his new Bar. Taking out those tacky walls made the place look so much better and brought in a ton of light. 👍

Agree with you Billy. Look lovely horizontal, gawdy upright. Yay Yannis. I come over just for a cocktail.
100% agree
Love that window…it lets so much light in! It is bigger than some of the other windows in the convent.
Billy is 100% right - those Mondrian-influenced stained glass panels have no place in the architecture of the convent.
