Couldn’t have said it any better brother, so true, it’s a great finisher after a deadlift or squat workout
Over time I’ve incorporated them twice a week, one early in post to my squat workout and one after my deadlift workout several days later, great overall dense muscle/ strength builder/ some endurance cardio and so on and so fourth,
In other words, nothing but benefits, amazing exercise if done safely with adequate weight to your comfort level with good straight body form only .

You forgot to mention they are the BEST move for forearms. People need to stop doing wrist curls (which can pinch a nerve running through your wrist) and start doing farmers walks for bigger forearms. They are also great for traps. Isometric contraction baby. Cheers !

    • @Peter_1986

Yeah, I don't like Wrist Curls for that exact reason - my wrists sometimes temporarily lock themselves for a brief moment during the curls and then snap, and this sometimes actually hurts a bit.
So I switched to Farmer's Walks and Reverse Dumbbell Curls instead.

Im fortunate enough to live on a large rural property, so I have lots of space and varied inclines for this. I then came up with something really simple that i call "the Sisyphus push", put simply i load my wheelbarrow full of rocks and push it up a hill, then control its descent walking back down. It's great for arms, quads, and upper back, and then walking up and down the hill really strengthens your grip. Holding that wheelbarrow while going down a 18-20° incline with a few hundred pounds in it at a controlled pace feels like a full body workout.

I tried one-gallon coolant bottles (unopened) with a horizontal comfortable handle while wearing slightly padded grip gloves. So about 10 pounds per hand. This worked perfectly for me, as I’m not big & strong and am trying to build strength in my damaged shoulders & upper back. Better to start lighter and manageable than to cause injury. (The bottles are also easier to set down (12” high) and walk with (3-4” wide) so they have a slim profile and won’t bump into legs like the weights would.)

You can do this just standing and just make it a timed exercise. This is a grip exercise so, so long as you have the proper hold and posture you can time yourself from anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. And if that's not enough for you then you may try walking in place or just take a few steps forward and back.

@Laurelindo using a treadmill with very heavy dumbells in both of your hands is pretty dangerous to yourself and anyone near you. It's possible though if you just have it running very slow and have someone else "spotting" you to turn it on or off. I just don't think you want to be on a treadmill when your grip is ready to give out.

Careful picking up heavy kettlebells off the floor. Make sure you hinge from the waist and keep your back straight, squatting as much as possible.
I do this exercise, along with the suitcase carry three time a week.
I initially moved up to heavier weights too soon and experienced sciatica in my right leg. I took a break for two weeks and dropped 15 lbs each weight and it has not returned.
I’m 73, so carrying 100 lbs in each hand isn’t happening. I carry 50, and right now, that’s enough.
I don’t do this for grip. I do it for core stability and focus on tightening my core while walking.
As I get more core strength, I’ll gradually move up in weight.
Remember, it’s not how much you can pick up. It’s how much it takes to reach your goal.

Do you have to walk? Wouldn't your arms still benefit if you just held them in place? I ask because I wanna do this at home but there's not much free space to walk around with weights.
