Happy 50th, young man . I was 70 yesterday , 30 years of playing and , my kids brought me a green bullet. Wow ..Too much much information out there. The only advice you need to learn, is Jason Ricci . Thats what i tell people when they say " i want to learn " Great video .😂
Excellent advice. Today’s instant gratification society wants everything and they want it all now and I’ve been guilty of it myself. But in my older age I’ve learned that the secret to getting better is keeping it simple and that less is more. Taking a simple phrase and trying to see how many different ways I can play it has improved my playing 10 times more than trying to learn 100 new ones every time I turn around.
Your comment about 'less is more' reminded me, brother, of something I saw in AZ. From a a tombstone in Tombstone, AZ: "Here lies Les Moore. Shot dead with a 44. No Les No More".
Hey Jason, just wanted to say thanks for the inspiration. You really make the harmonica come alive and sound incredible. I am new and really struggling, but you give me hope !! LOL I need it. Thanks again and rock on, brother !
Well stated. This is the toughest thing thing about learning today, onliine, imho. I played many gigs before I'd even heard about most of this! Find or make some friends & get playing! Embrace the simple joys & pleasures of musical expression & let the rest unfold. It's so cool that you're sharing your wisdom, Jason.
Massive video! There is so much here. Im playing 13 years now and I can tell this is so important. Multi practice is what this is. You are working with time, metronome, bending, 12 bar blues progression, swing and so much more. Jason You have been my teacher for all this years and I thank you so much. Love you bro. In july you have a gig in Vienna and I will come to see you. Im from Croatia so it is very close. I want to meet my teacher finally. Love you papa. 😂❤
Jay son ve-Riccool you are So So Cool Jay you opened my eyes in 34 minutes and 40 seconds.I am a beginner harmonica player and a learning playing guitar as well and I have spent countless hours studying how to create a Lick and you could not have made any simpler in deed. Thanks a Million.
Like most of my dreams, I just woke up one day wanting to do it. I just found your videos. Very excited to continue learning! Great teacher and player!
@@jasonricci "That was quick" ... what about the key your video is in? Got to know ... don't leave me in the rain Jason. Eli is my pen name , my name is John
I've been doing nothing but bend practice for a couple weeks; finally 'get it' (pull through very back of constricted throat for me) but can't get the very bottom note on 2 or 3 draw. Good topic and vid! More singular practice....
I got a tip from a harp pro about how to get more control over all the bends available on the three draw is to touch the front teeth together to shrink the available space for the tongue to work in so you're making moves in smaller increments. I don't know if that will help you get to the bottom of the bends but it did help me get finer control. Good luck!
Read my comment above I wrote about this video. By the way ...... This video is being played all the way through in the key of "E" not in the key of "A" if you want to play-along with Jason in this video. "GOT IT?" Eli: "King of Rock & Roll Harmonica".
Great point! It is overwhelming. I’ve come to the same conclusion lately. I’ve been going back and focusing on things I haven’t nearly mastered before I went on to the next thing. Good to hear from someone with your experience and talent.

Love this advice, really appreciate it, it’s so much more helpful to bet yourself organised and keep practicing basic things till you know them better than you know yourself lol 😆
14 minutes in, the root notes thing really pays off. I made a short video on it and a keyboard ninja wrote a comment saying I knew nothing about the blues and I speak complete rubbish. Even though I was shown it by Tomlin and yourself. The root note thing is a good foundation. It's always the ninjas with no content or anything to back up what their saying. Foundations rock. Happy five ohhh

Think about it like this, for those 4 note arpeggios if you play each note 1 time there is 24 permutations to play them. Now how many more when you repeat notes? This is great advice when learning anything. Love the content brother

Great tutorial! Your playing is outstanding. I'm curious about the technique you use for the chords interspersed with the single notes, particularly around the 5:38. Are you using the tongue blocking method, or do you use a lip purse technique and then expand your embouchure?
Hey why so late? I’m awake and need my free Friday fix in order to get up!!! Me and the cats all waiting!!!! 6pm!!!! This better be good!!! 😂😂😂🛏️💤💤💤😪😾😾🙀😼
One thing Jason doesn’t talk about as far as I know is the foot tap to the beat. I feel like the shuffle wouldn’t sound as good without it. I personally find the foot tap difficult to coordinate with my playing - maybe because I never really did it when I started learning music. Now I want to add it in. Just wondering how important and useful it is to tap a beat with your foot, and if there are any musical benefits to mastering it - or if it is something that gets in the way and is better to not do.
Great job!...Well done. This song can be played in the keys of “E” on your Harmonica ... I will be making a cover of this song, But adding a little of my own twist to it ….soooo…Look for it! Hi Jason, just subscribed to your channel, after seeing you competing with Will Wilde. You must be damn good to be competing with Will..... so I'll give you a shot😂
Jason reminds me of the marvellous much lamented buddy hackett in his mannerisms, no offence intended if your watching Jason only intended as a compliment, by the way nobody talks about Huey Lewis and his fabulous harmonica style, where he seems able to play both single notes and cords simultaneously almost a kind of rhythm like the trumpet, as I say in the tight harp community almost like an inclusive club only the chosen few can join like your not with the in crowd we don’t recognise him, sorry for the rant but I believe it’s true!.
Sure ! The 5 draw is a different note with a different feel (we call it a b7 but thats not important) what is important is how it effects the chord. In this case it cause a little more tension that the 5 blow (we call that a 6th). So it's good to be able to do both by them selves before you put them together. BTW there is a video on 5b (5th chords) linked below here. ❤️
Yo. I forgot today was Friday. It's my day off and i thought it was Saturday. 😆 🤣 😂 Hey bro, hope you're doing well and life is treating you well. Love you bro. ✌️
Yay!!! Free Saturday. Worth waiting for. Finding these very reassuring. People think I can play now and that I’ve really got on with it. When the truth is I only know 2nd position and the lower end of the harp. I’ve never tried overblows or whatever and don’t want to try playing Juke 😂😂😂. I’m really happy to be taking it slow and focusing where I’m focused as in reality 99% of the stuff I like is 2nd position 1-6 hole. I will learn all the rest as I am obsessed with harp, but it can wait. Loads of guys I started out with wanted it all in 6 months and then quit!!!!! I will take the long path.
