    How did I miss this video? This was a gambit the great Frank Marshall did a lot of analysis on. Thanks for reminding us of this one, Solomon. These old gambits are new again, if people have forgotten or dismissed these possibilities. Thanks.

      Thanks Alan! This one I made awhile back, I'm glad you stumbled across it though! Yes, there's a second discovery of many of these old lines, except now they are being aided by computers. Very dangerous, especially against an opponent who hasn't prepared for it!

    What if qxg2, trapping the rook in the corner, and kind of force a queen trade with qf3?

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Great question!! I honestly shouldv'e covered this in the video. So ya, if Qxg2 white has an over +5 advantage. We will continue with Nxd6+ (giving us a piece) and then will look to play Qf3 immediately against Kf8 so that black can't win our rook. If Ke7 instead, theres alot of good moves we can play (including Qf3 with the idea of an intermediate Nxc8+ if black decides to take our queen) but the best move is actually Ba3!! This looks to give us Nxc8+ on the horizon and black is simply lost there even after taking off our rook. Hope this helps!

    at 5:47 after white goes Bc4, what if black responds with Qxg2 ? isn't black winning a rook ? or am i missing something.. ?

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question! So ya against Qxg2 we play Nxd6+.... what we do next depends on where the king goes. If Kf8 we simply play Qf3 and trade down a piece ahead. If Ke7 we have Ba3, and if Kd7 we have d5... there's a ton of theory there but hopefully that sets you in the right direction. Black could play Qxg2 and then Kd7 to win our rook but if you plug this into a computer it is simply winning for white as the king has no protection.

    in this video you described the delayed wing gambit as:
    1. e4 c5
    2. a3 Nc6
    3. b4
    but is there such a thing as an "open delayed wing gambit" (or "deferred delayed wing gambit"):
    1. e4 c5
    2. Nf3 Nc6
    3. a3 d6
    4. b4

    but what about 2. d6 ?
    thanks!

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey John! Great question! Against d6, we can go with b4 and then something such as Nc3, Rb1 (key move, defending that pawn on b4, also with potential ideas of playing b5 or taking on c5 and then all of a sudden we have a rook crashing down on b7, but honestly just waiting and keeping the tension is best for awhile in most instances), Nf3, Bb5, 0-0, etc. And white has a nice game!

    when playing against the Sicilian, what are the pros and cons of playing Smith Morra Gambit compared to Wing Gambit? Which gambit is more successful at an intermediate 1500 level? And why?

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say the Delayed Wing Gambit is much stronger than the Smith-Morra Gambit, in fact I was just talking to one of my students about this.
      Firstly, Sicilian players know the Smith-Morra, but many don't prepare for 2. a3! I played the Sicilian my whole life and had never heard of it.
      Second, the Delayed Wing Gambit gives up the a and b pawns, instead of the c and d. I think this is very much in white's favor.
      Thirdly, there are WAY more opening traps with the Delayed Wing Gambit. It is simply a much more dangerous system.
      Hope this helps!

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Bren, good question! Against this I would probably play Nf3 and Bd2, with Nb5/Nc4/d5 ideas always in the air. The queen does slow things down for a bit, but it's soon gonna have to run to c7 or d8 where it's still pretty exposed to potential attacks. Hope this helps!

    Some recommend the regular Wing Gambit. In your opinion is the Delayed Wing Gambit "safer"?

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya, the Wing Gambit is also good. More straightforward in what we want to achieve but less traps. I would honestly say they're both very safe. I don't think one is safer than the other. The advantage of the Delayed is more trappy lines and the advantage of the regular Wing Gambit is that 2. ...g6 loses it's fire. Hope this helps!

    Thanks for awesome video ! For the line after e6, there is also an agressive line which after Bxb4 plays Bb2, Nf6, e5 kicking away the night, Nd5 and then c4 kicking away the night once more.
    If Night goes to e7 then simply Qg4 to attack g7 and attacking plans with h4,5,6
    If Night goes to c7 or b6 there is this very nice rook a3! If Bxa3,Bxa3, our bishop is very strong not allowing castle, we have ideas with Qg4 and even Bd6 blocking completely black development.
    And if black are too scared to take the rook, then we put it on g3 with hugh attacking chances on the kingside.
    What do you think about this variation?

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I am very familiar with this line! I saw GM Simon teach it once in his "Spicy Gambits" series. It's a ton of fun, however I've stopped playing this because against Qg4, we have Ng6, and after h4, black can play h5 kicking our queen to g3... and I personally haven't had a ton of success with this line in tournament play. But honestly if black plays anything else I love white's game, and I should've included it in the video. That Ra3 line is awesome
