With all my love for Frank Sinatra, I have to admit that Sammy Davis was arguably the best of the whole Rat Pack, the most complete. He knew how to do everything! And he knew how to do it splendidly

Who's here in September 2024? I was only six years old when this song was released and I remember me and my mother used to sing it together. Such wonderful memories, I just love Sammy Davis Junior. He was amazing.❤❤❤
One of my most concrete memories is when my grandparents lived in a caravan about 2 hours from me, and on a weekend my granddad (who worked round me still) would drive back home to caravan, so I’d go with him, and on those long drives, we would have this on repeat, one of the things me and him bonded with was loving this and how it was the first time we both tapped and sang together, sometimes it takes stuff like a song to realise that when someone’s gone, you will miss them more than anything, I’m so not ready to lose my granddad for memories like this
I was a little white girl when he was having his comeback. I absolutely adored him. If he was going to be on a show, I'd sit there waiting for him to come on. I especially loved it when he danced. It was one of the reasons I took tap lessons. I will always have fond memories of Sammy. One of the best all around performers ever.
Fun fact: Sammy Davis Jr addition for the shop keeper in the candy store For Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory. But the director and producers didn't want someone famous playing the part so they turned him down. Which is why as you see he sang even though he never got the part.
Sammy Davis, Jr. had a hit with this song at a time when most hitmakers were half to two-thirds his age. And here he's having loads of fun with it more than a decade later. A true class act!
Agreed Mad Maxxxxxxx. It used to be all about the audience when great performers stepped out on stage. They were grateful for their audiences that helped make them. Now it's all about themselves. They feel like the audience should be grateful to be graced with their presence.
had this on a 45 when I was a child. I loved this song and still do! the best rendition of Mr. Bojangles I've ever seen was from this wonderful talented man. The world needs less P.Diddy and more Sammy Davis Jr.
This was his least favorite song, but he owed it a lot. Candyman reinvigorated his career when he came out with it, but he was never fond of the song. He kinda blew right thru the song quick as possible.
You Joker I agree, but he came out with Bo at the height of his career. When his popularity started to wane is when he came out with candy man and it got him back on the radio.
Wow. I haven't really listened to Sammy Davis junior. But I'm glad I am now. Where have I been? And I'm kinda surprised l. It's 2022 and this is still being heard. I thought I was alone in my past memories and nostalgia. I love the good old times. I'm glad I'm not alone on those thoughts
He was sooooo great, this warm bride orchestral voice, this timing, the charme, the humor, the talent, this little man and his voice no problem with a big band with nearly 30 musicians! Absolutely genius. I miss him, this kind of jazz and all the singers and dancers of his decade ;-)
I had the pleasure of seeing Sammy in concert in 1975. The show was so awesome , my girlfriend and I bought tickets for his show the next night. Of all the shows that I have seen in person, Sammy Davis Jr. was the best all round performer. Rest In Peace Sammy. !!!
I don't know when and how it started, but I've loved this song from hearing it on the radio as a little girl growing up in Jamaica. I loved it so much I sang it to my son as a lullaby when he was a baby, then to my daughter, and now, now I'm singing it to my grandson as I did to his father. He knows all the words, though I had them in the wrong places so I'm here learning the lyrics once and for all...what a singer and a beautiful performance this is!! Thanks Sammy for such a beautiful song that continues to warm my heart and those I love.
The story is, S.D. Jr. never wanted to sing this song. He thought it was too goofy. His producer finally convinced him, and Sammy said he'd do only a single take. That one take is what eventually became the released single - which shot to number one in multiple countries. It's his only #1 song.
A wonderful song from a wonderful man. This song brings back heart warming memories of family gatherings with Sammy singing his tunes and always creating laughter like it’s magic. Thank you so much. Will forever be in my heart. 🙏❤️❤️❤️ 1:07
Incomparable with no equal. Sings, dances, actor, musician, etc...I can’t believe today’s so called talent compared to “Mr. Bojangles”. RIP Sammy Davis Jr. The best thing about getting old is knowing what real talent was
Guys like him cannot hardly be found these days. Real performancers, real musicians who are still capable of reading notes. He definately belongs to greatest performers ever. I met him when I was a kid visiting Atlantic City with my Aunt and Uncle around 1980. The grownups were gambling and I was tired of game room and stepped outside to sneak a smoke. He got out of his car and I started singing Candy Man. He says "You're a cool cat" finger guns and all. He tells me how I shouldn't smoke and then asked what I was doing. I say I got board and was gonna walk to our hotel. He offers a ride and I say sure. I was cheesing big time. He was already one of my heroes and it was my first ride in a limo. I was 15 and it was wonderful. When I got much older I read that he hated Candy Man and yet he was ever so gracious. My first brush with fame. Oh yeah, I did not ask him if he was keeping an eye out for me but I wanted to. Gosh, I miss his presence.

One of the most all-round talented performers in history. On the Mount Rushmore of entertainment.
I can't believe how good he still was at 60 years old. Consider the toll that his life must taken on him. Truly Remarkable.
A truly beautiful person who loved everyone.
Indeed. What a voice!
I agree with you
