I've been on the fence about purchasing the S vs the SC, but thanks to the new firmware update I will be purchasing it today. Thanks for the informative video.
Lol I just bought a Ronin S (I needed the payload) being torn about the new features of the SC. Thank you for your video, makes me happy to learn that I can enjoy that now 😎👍🏻
@@AttiBear EOS R/Ninja V and BM pocket 6K, I keep the cage on both when on the Ronin S. I just upgraded the firmware today, it's really cool. Also I noticed that they improved the focus wheel, you can now adjust the speed in the app from 1 to 100 for smooth or fast pulling (it works perfectly with my EOS R and L glasses). Btw the new 1.4 firmware on the EOS R turned the AF into the next level, it's insane! idk if you tried it on yours.
Guys, the ronin SC is for smaller set ups , smaller lenses and barley any add ons...don’t recommend it if you use any heavy lenses or heavier cameras on your set up. Just sayin. 😊 but great video bruh
You are aware I was actually recommending the S not the SC right? 😉 Btw I totally agree with you on the SC. That's also the reason why I didn't got one. My gear is simply too heavy 😁
I must be living under a rock because I just heard about the active tracking with the Fujifilm XT3 today lol. Let me get this heavy rock off of me and try this active tracking out yay! Thanks for the video.
Hi, Great Video.. I am also trying to adjust my Ronin S with smartphone. I use Alpha 6400 with 35mm 1.8 lens + smartphone on the camera. I'm getting desperate with it. Can you give me a tip on how to best adjust the individual joints for this? I just can't get them in balance. Thank you!
Could this tracking method be used on a monopod, using it like a jib? I wonder would it go super high and point down? This would be amazing. Maybe you can do a video on this? Anyway thank you for the video and response. :)
Hey Ed I don’t see a reason why this wouldn’t work 😉. You just need to figure out a way to select your subject before you enlarge the Monopod all the way 😁
Great video! But quick question - for active track mode, if you are a solo creator, how do you start the active track so that it tracks your head if you are by yourself? Don't you have to have your head within the iphone camera field so that it can track? How do you highlight your own head when you start the active tracking?
Use your fist to mark where the center is for the tracker then move your face to the same position where your face was then tap the trigger on the gimbal. This is the best way I got
Good job, Atti, thanks for the tips. Were you able to use Active Track while recording externally to Atomos Ninja V? I can see it on your rig and it seems to be recording.
I’ve been struggling with this feature using an iphone 6, do you think it the phone makes any difference? Does the tracking rely on the phone’s camera?
So - how does this active track compare vs the Arc II? Using this with a simple motorized slider would be cheaper than the Arc II and its slider. The only goal is to have a constantly moving position on a loop with tracking to keep subject centered. Anyone have any opinions? Also going to try Jigabot which will probably be more accurate since it uses IR sensors. But tilt control via auto tracking would be nice too.
Unfortunately I don't have an Arc II on my hands but DJI's Active Track is very responsive and does a great job in recognizing objects. A motorized slider with the Osmo Mobile 3 on top is probably unbeatable at this price 😁
@@AttiBear Nice! Thanks very much for your response and insight! I would get more use out of the Osmo anyway at other times, so that is a really great suggestion. Definitely going to try it out! :)
With the raven addon how do you utilise the hdmi output? I would like to use the active track feature but same time output hdmi to my atem switcher unit
Would placing the iphone lens even more centered to the camera´s lens render better results? i could use some sort of small swing arm to get it centered on the barrel of the camera´s lens in both axis! what do you think? thanks for the review
The more centered your phone lens is the better, but also consider that it'll get harder to balance the gimbal with your phone on top. In the end you'll have to try it with your individual setup to see how well it works
Thanks Marten. Glad I could be of assistance. I'm using the aputure ballhead with the joby phone mount. Those I had lying around 😁. basically you can use every phone mount that securely holds your phone. Would it be helpful if I do a review about my Ronin S accessories?

Have you tried to use an external monitor? I’m finding that when my Nikon Z6 is connected to the ronin s it mutes the HDMI signal to the monitor. Has the update corrected this?
I'm sorry I don't have a Z6 on my hands. I can only speak for the EOS R in combination with the Atomos Ninja V and there's no issue with audio there 🤷♂️
It follows what ever you select. The algorithm they use is quite flexible. I think balancing your lens could get tricky. I can balance the RF 70-200 with my EOS R but it takes some time.
Hey Fharuk, Ronin S and SC are basically the same gimbal. The better gimbal for your purposes is depending on the gear you'll be using. The payload limit for the Ronin SC is at 2,5 KG. If you are below that threshold you'll be better of with the Ronin SC cause it's significantly lighter than the Ronin S.
scaling the field of view would lead to a smaller tracking are. The bigger your field of view the longer the camera can track your subject. On the other hand it would be nice to have "safe area" indicators. That would make it easier to align the two feeds.
Im not sure what im doing wrong, but when i use active track with my iphone 6s plus. As soon as i have a motive, the gimbal starts spinning around.... :( And it stop spinning, when loosing the motive on the iphone camera.
They've added a new feature where you frame the subject while you're in active track with your cellphone and just simply tap the trigger on the Ronin s begins to track. You'll have to estimate the framing if you're framing yourself
No you can't. But don't forget, the wider your field of view, the bigger your trackable area. This means it can track your subject easier if it moves fast
Zhiyun have more features, for example the "active track" mode works from HDMI signal straight out of the camera, motor lock system like Ronin SC, you can change camera settings from the gimbal etc... Bullshit Zhiyun has ! I bought a V2 and realized it cant do shit compared to the SC and the SC is lower priced by 20%. With 50% better features. The crane V2 had no app for it. The Zhuyun company told me to "experiment" with their other gimbals apps, wow what professionalism. Then the app is so crude and illogical (obvious low end Chinese style). DJI is high end Chinese stuff, still chinese but not badly worded dialogs and all. The Zhiyun app will never connect, cant do a time-lapse properly and will forget steps in a time-lapse. I just wanted to throw it on the floor. All this is not user error. But rather a crippled app. I just gave up and bought this today.
