    Chosokabe clan was best at Infantry archers because most of farmers owned Bows more than Yari or Tachi (5 CM shorter Katanas and mostly used swords in Japan. because Katanas were Blades of Nobles and longer forging it took)
    and also Chosokabe Cavalry archers arent as good as Takeda because province Tosa had least horses in Feudal Japan

    • @RocketHarry865
      @RocketHarry865 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Actually orginally Samurai fought as mounted archers and the Tachi was the original sword of the samurai. During the Kamakura peroid there was another sword the Uchigatana that was originally developed for lower ranking warriors who fought on foot and as a result the Uchigatana was usually of lesser quality make than the Tachi however during the Muromachi period the Samurai began fighting on foot more frequenetly which meant that Uchigatana of higher quality were being made. Due it was made to be used on foot the Uchigatana was designed to be quicker to draw than the tachi also the Unchigatna was often worn with the cutting edge of the blade worn upwards which differed from the Tachi where the blade was worn downwards. Other ways the Uchigatana differed from the Tachi was that the Uchigatana was shorter, the blade was straighter and the blades' was curvature near the sword's point (sakizori), as opposed to curvature near the sword's hilt (koshizori) like the tachi. By the Azuchi-Momoyama period the Tachi had been abandoned and the Uchigatana had developed into the Katana

      @@RocketHarry865 Don't forget that the move from infantry to mounted warriors was due to the wars against the emishi peoples, since these were good at guerrilla warfare they caused many troubles to any expedition the emperor organized. Add to this that the infantry at the time was levy infantry that wasn't too happy with their terms of service.
      Cavalry had more flexibility and mobility, which made them better to launch expeditions against the emishi, and since keeping a horse was expensive it meant that cavalry was mainly made from nobles. This contributed to nobled gaining influence and power by serving as elite mounted troops, which would see the authority of the emperor slip towards local lords and their horse-back soldiers.

      @@MrSmartDonkeyLP a bit late to this conversation but, i think it depends on how you use them. i like to be quite aggressive even while playing with an archer heavy army and i often risk some of my bow units trying to get around and behind the enemy line engaging my mele line and shoot them from the back, i think both samurai and daikyu archers are less vulnerable if something goes wrong and they get engaged in mele partly thanks to their armor. i know it's probably not the best thing to do but i find it pretty fun.
      but if you don't plan on risking your archers and are gonna keep them safe from harm i think monk archers are the way to go, not sure about archer vs archer battles tho.

I had two armies, one focused on taking Chugoku, the other, lead by my Daimyo consolidated the regions around Kyoto. By endgame, the Takeda had grown so large that they basically controlled the entirety of Eastern Japan except for a few Hojo holdouts. Fortunately, through a few well placed marriages, trade deals and sizable donations, The Takeda remained my steadfast ally even after realm divide and even helped me take Kyoto. Very fun campaign. An advice for anyone playing Chosokabe. Your starting general beside Daimyo, named specifically Kire Masayo is a hidden, dishonest traitor. Do not raise this guy, toss him in some town or in the middle of nowhere, on a ship at the edge of the map, do not give him any army. Wait for newer general instead. This guy will always lose his loyalty stats FOR ABSOLUTELY no reason at all around turn 70. I have played all difficulty of this clan, he always become my best general cause at the start he was the only one to raise early on, it was a mistake. I thought thing will change when I play on legendary difficulty but the m**** f*****, who was leading the main defence forces of Shikoku island. The Takeda sent one lvl 1 agent and bought half of his forces and the general himself, and then I lost Shikoku to Takeda.
    DO NOT TRUST THE MOTHER F****R. After you taken Shikoku, wait for the heir.

      Generals never lose loyalty randomly, there's always reasons for it. I've never had any issues with any general for any clan. You probably kept him in a town with buildings that have a chance of decreasing loyalty every turn.

    • @machaiping
      @machaiping 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I never find any event that decrease loyalty, except marrying Ambitious wife or some stupid Retainer options. Most of the time they turned into womanizer or fat-guy because I was busy preparing for Realm Divide so they sit around and has nothing to do for dozens of turns.
      Most of my generals came from bribery, so their low loyalty is quite a given, but can boost by Daimyo's honor.
      Fall of the Samurais is especially easy on this because you're guarantee 5 Honor Daimyo from research alone, one Heroic win / Retainer is all that you needed to max out Honor, and Heroic win is quite easy to get too due to AI spamming Levy Infantry which, while skewed power-bar and Auto-resolve to their side, get their teeth kicked in by even Spear Levy if you fight it out manually. And the skewed power-bar is exactly what you need for Heroic win)
      Vanilla Shogun 2 however needs 2 Heroic wins and/or 2 Retainers thus harder.

    What do you think of the bow hero ? I think they are weak.
    The Bow warrior monk will have much more kills due to their increased unit size, furthermore the bow hero will run out of ammunition in a significantly shorter time than them.
    Their 127 accuracy is overkill I would say, since 1 volley of the bow monks will have more kills than 1 volley of the bow hero.
    IMO they just feel very powerful due to the fact that when you reach them, you already have so much buffs, about +45 accuracy and +10 reload.
    I would like to hear your say on this.

    • @MrSmartDonkeyLP
      @MrSmartDonkeyLP 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, I'm not a huge fan of most of the hero units, and the Bow Hero is definitely towards the lower end of the spectrum.

    For the daughter I’d recommend marrying her to your general for the increased loyalty before making him your heir. Your actual flesh and blood son won’t come of age until your daimyo is cold and buried so having Succession lined up helps avoid needing a regent for several turns. While you loose a bit of loyalty in your blood son for disinheriting him by the time he comes of age you’ll have enough generals that you have have him commit sepuku with little loss if loyalty is a concern.

    Are naginata samurai better than yari ashigaru in yari wall? The reason for me asking is you said naginata are the best defensive units for that type of army comp and I thought yari ashigaru in yari wall formation was better. Any helpful feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

    • @MrSmartDonkeyLP
      @MrSmartDonkeyLP 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yari Ashigaru in Yari Wall are better when it comes to melee, but that's not the requirement here. The main job your front-line men do in this composition is tank enemy arrows, while your archers deal damage. You don't want a front-line of Yari Ashigaru getting torn apart by enemy Bow Samurai before your men even engage.

      Yeah, that's the nice thing about co-ops in Shogun 2, you can recruit units with your clan bonuses and then gift them to your co-op partner, and vice versa. Meaning you can for example have an army with Shimazu Katanas and Chosokabe Bows.

    Why do you dislike the bow samurai, despite their clear advantages like better stats and armor piercing?
    And how do you deal with units not firing at enemy units because your own are facing them?
    Are you trying to flank them by bringing your archers to the side or what do you do?

    • @MrSmartDonkeyLP
      @MrSmartDonkeyLP 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think Bow Samurai are bad, I'm not saying they're worse than Bow Ashigaru, I just tend to skip over them in favor of Bow Warrior Monks. There's no need to make the stop at Bow Samurai in my opinion, Bow Ashigaru will do fine until you can get Bow Warrior Monks.
      Yeah, flanking with archers is a fine strategy, if you can keep them safe from any enemy cavalry. Although it's rare that your archers have absolutely nothing to fire at.

    Lmao, archers is one class that I just don't like to use or focus. I put 2 or 3 archer units in the army just for defending cities and assisting infantry. They really rely on terrains to be effective, mainly high grounds, even then they can be flanked cavalry. They need to be in large number to be super deadly but infantry can just overrun them...... The best way of fighting these types of ancient warfare is still infantry confronts the main force while cavalry finds weak spots and flanks.

    I like the Chosokabe, but they're strange and frustrating because their abilities have no synergy with their geography.
    They get an income bonus from farms BUT the soil of Shikoku is mostly terrible.
    They are close to trade nodes and can build ships more cheaply because of their lumber resources BUT since trade ports have to have a land connection to the capital, their trade income is never going to be very high anyway.
    They get better archery units BUT the nearest province with fletchers is so far from your capital the game will be half over before you can really take advantage of it.
    So they're great farmers but not really and great traders but not really and great archers but not really.
    On top of that the Oda bow ashigaru are a better value than the Chosokabe bow ashigaru.
