Thank you for posting this! Been wanting this full match forever!! I think it's one of Chris' best matches she's every played. Taking a set from the Golden Slam winner, at 34 years old is a tremendous effort.
Christ is one of the most clever player...her career might be towards the end when Steffi arise..but I think both Martina and Christ had raised their skills and game and played the best ever in their career to be at par with Steffi.
You could see that not only was this a good day at the office for Evert but you could also tell she had made some progress finally about how to solve the problem that Graf presented but unfortunately didn't have the stamina or willpower she had in her prime but had she been a bit younger I think she would have pulled off a win here - Chris loved playing in Boca Raton, her backyard. For those too young, No one had ever seen a weapon in women's tennis like Steffi's forehand - it was feared by everyone and Evert's strategy up until this point was to keep hitting to Graf's backhand and avoid the forehand whenever possible which would never work - Evert just didn't have enough power to do that and Graf was at this time probably the fastest woman on the tour so no problem running around her backhand where that tactic wouldn't work for someone not quite as speedy. Here though you can see Evert is hitting to the backhand but also hitting hard backhands down the line to Graf's forehand and catching Graf off guard and also hitting some forehands sharply and shortly angled cross court to the Graf forehand which also caught Graf. IMO this is the best match Evert played in 89, narrowly beating out her win over Seles at the US Open which I would say was her 2nd best match of 89.
Evert's career was winding down. She officially retired at the 1989 US Open when Zina Garrison defeated the former no.1. Evert was preparing to begin a life and family with her husband Andy Mill.

Hi amazing match by evert. Do you have the match with evert vs Graf at the French 1985. One match I’ve never been able to see.
I’m beginning to think that tape doesn’t exist.
Steffi was rarely came to the close of the net very unique player
