  • This is everything you need to learn about pavement markings for your State’s DMV test.
    The video shows you the important difference between yellow and white lines. It also tells you what broken (dashed) and solid lines mean.
    You will also see some other important lane lines and pavement markings that DMV may ask you about on your DMV/Permit test.
    Driver Handbooks in all States have a page or two about road lines and other pavement markings. Markings are important to control traffic and you are likely to see at least one question about road markings on your official test.
    This study video makes it easier to remember some of the simple facts.

    Quick question. One Continuous white line, cross only to avoid an accident. Two continuous white lines, do not cross under any circumstances.
    So if one could avoid an accident by crossing the two white lines safely one shouldn’t??? 1:44

    • @Driverspreptests
      @Driverspreptests  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Good question! The two important facts first: Crossing double white lines is a traffic violation, and the prohibition is there for a reason. You must not cross the lines with one important exception: When directed to do so by law enforcement. As we know, a direct order from an officer must be obeyed even if it conflicts with existing rules. What if you can avoid an accident by crossing the lines? Well, it should never be your first choice. Consider braking or steering without crossing the lines instead.
      If you cross the lines to avoid a crash, will you get a ticket? Probably not. But it wouldn't be good if your action caused a secondary crash worse than the potential first one.
      Finally, the double white lines are rarely used except to separate HOV lanes.

    Can you U turn across double yellow lines?

    • @Driverspreptests
      @Driverspreptests  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      There is no simple answer. Some states, including California and Texas, allow U-turns across a double yellow line as long as they are safe and there are no signs prohibiting them. In New York, they are not allowed. Read more: driversprep.com/crossing-the-double-yellow-lines/

    • @Driverspreptests
      @Driverspreptests  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You must come to a complete stop at the marked stop line or (if no stop line) before moving into the crosswalk or intersection

    • @bigbooduh
      @bigbooduh ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's what it looked like, but I realized it's a 2D animation so the arrow was meant to be up pointing down and not left

    At 3:28 do u mean like don't wait there super long or just don't wait there period?

    • @Driverspreptests
      @Driverspreptests  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      You may never enter a shared center lane to make a RIGHT turn. The lane is for LEFT turns only. At ~3.28 the car in the center turns has its right turn signal activated. For a left turn, you wait until it is safe to turn.

    Can someone please tell me what it means when it says “drivers are permitted to pass when it is safe to do so or when it says “drivers are not permitted to pass. Idk what “pass” means like pass another car? Idk

    • @Driverspreptests
      @Driverspreptests  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The law normally use the phrase "overtake and pass", handbooks often one of the two verbs to describe the movement of changing direction to pass another vehicle..
