    I just bought an Italian Colt 45 clone and will start reloading Colt 45 ammo so your video was a big help. I already reload many different pistol calibers, but none of them have the issue the Colt 45 has in that some guns have to be loaded for lower pressures (1873 clones) and others can be loaded to higher pressures (S&W Model 25-5).
    I have that same Lyman hand primer and its a fine tool for priming cases. I'd just recommend that anyone who uses it to make sure they wear eye and ear protection and to point the case mouth away from themselves when using it.

    I'm sure this will sound silly to some, but I am wondering what kind of cost is associated with the "starter kit" for reloading the 45 Colt. Also, I'm sure there are things a beginner could make mistakes on and I would like to know how dangerous could a beginning reloader be in terms of say blowing up my Colt or worse, endangering life and limb. You seem like you really know what you're doing, and my dad isn't around anymore to ask, so any info would be greatly appreciated. I will do research but I like the "man on the street" take as well. Thanks, bud.

      I started with this kit for all my reloading: amzn.to/3TOzzwE and these are the dies I use for 45 Colt: amzn.to/3z6TK0I (all links are Amazon affiliate links). Get a reloading manual, I use Lyman's 49th, here's a link to the 50th although the 51st is available: amzn.to/3MZZY8p . Most manuals have great information in the beginning that explain the process and things to watch for. Start with a low charge and work up, use recommended components (large pistol primers for 45 Colt, not large magnum pistol primers). You can also check some reloading forums, most of them are very open to new reloaders.

    • @FatManLeather

      Stick to published data from a reliable manual, in this video my data comes from Lyman's 49th edition. As for primers, large pistol primers are called for. I use CCI, Federal and S&B most, but the way things are now, whatever brand you can get is good.

    Coincidentally Scott, I have been thinking of buying another revolver over the past month or so, and wondered what exactly it's like to shoot with the .45 Long Colt ammunition.
    I was at the Range ( Indoor ) last week, when a friend of mine was there, with his brother who happened to own ( and have with him ) a Pietta 45 Colt revolver.
    I did manage to have a few shots with it, and my mind's now made up. I want one.
    So this video is right on the mark, I'm going to enjoy watching to see you doing these re-loads.
    I'd like to wish you and your family all the best of Good Wishes for a Healthy, Safe, and Happy new Year, I hope 2018, is a good one for you and look forward to seeing you back here soon.
    Cheers, Scott!

      Thanks Reg. I found a great deal on this Pietta and the reloading dies. The gun was new without the box and I love shooting it. Keep in mind that you may need to do some work on the front site, mine was shooting really low till I filed the front site down, unfortunately I went a little too far.

    I just looked and saw how horrendously expensive 45 colt is. Cheapest I saw was $1.20 per round of factory ammo, which means a box of 50 would run you about $60. Nope! I’m planning on buying a Cimmaron frontier model, but I have to get it in 45 colt. A peacemaker just isn’t a true peacemaker to me if it’s not in 45 colt. I’m considering reloading after looking at those ammo prices, and although there might be a little learning curve, it actually looks kind of fun

    • @FatManLeather
      @FatManLeather  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I enjoy the time at my reloading bench. Most good reloading manuals have some great information in them aside from load data. Richard Lee's ABCs of reloading is a great place to start. Currently supplies are kind of hard to find right now but I'm sure things will shake loose before too long.

      @@FatManLeather thanks. I’ll probably check that out once I get the chance. Reloading seems like an activity I might really enjoy. Who knows. Maybe I’ll load up 500 rounds of 45 colt and decide after a while that maybe there are other calibers I’d like to work with. As of now, 45 colt for the single action Army I’m looking at is my only purpose, but I could see myself really enjoying it

    • @FatManLeather

      I couldn't say, I don't load with black powder yet. I do know you can't leave any air space, other than that I believe you can use the same lead bullets and primers as any other load. Do plenty of research and testing and be safe.

    Is 45 colt and 45 long colt both able to work in the pietta 1858 new army with the Taylor and co conversion cylinders. New at this and not sure the total difference in 45 colt and long colt

    • @FatManLeather
      @FatManLeather  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      45 Colt and 45 Long Colt are the same so they should work. Long Colt was adopted by some folks to differentiate it from 45 ACP and 45 Schofield. 45 Colt was developed in 1872 and originally used black powder.

      @@FatManLeather thank you very much I'm still new to the pistol caliber thing when it comes to the older rounds. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a 357 /38 size thing where 38 will work in a 357 but not vice versa, or have a situation where there is just that slightest fraction difference and have a round swell in the cylinder or something. But I feel better now thank for your knowledge .
