Would you ever have to blow down a drip leg? If so how often?

You shouldn't have to. The steam trap at that drip leg will remove any condensate that accumulates. Only time i have ever removed a cap off a drip leg was on the gas line right at the boiler during the annual take down for inspection. I did it as apart of my PM.
