It's an incredibly well-done fight. Frustrating as hell when you miss a precise parry though with how long the fight is but exciting when it all comes together.
@@mancheiferIt’s definitely overwhelming when you get to it at first but by doing it you find out what works. I highly recommend playing through the game as it’s a blast, even if some of it is repeated attempts at the bosses.
Congrats on this boss, I absolutely adore this fight, the difficulty spike is insane, but learning all of her patterns is incredibly fun. Amazing job mastering this fight, extremely well done! I hope you enjoyed this game as much as I did, as it’s easily one of the best games I’ve ever experienced!
I had a blast with it. I delayed on it knowing it would take a while to get through because I'm bad at parry-focused games (and need a hefty amount of practice to "git gud") but I was definitely excited for it, especially after having completed it. I'm really hoping Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus is similarly great next month.
Yeah, third phase is a bit fast when you know what to do. I did a lot of practice just staying alive in P3 for as long as possible to learn the parries so I did get to hear the awesome music. :)
I thank you for this video, it was a good reference. The previous day I was frustrated by how fast I lost several times but over time I managed to improve and finally beat her minutes ago as I am typing this comment. While you used unbound counter against her powerful slash, I used another approach which was my Piercing Arrows which I save up for the moments she does those slashes. And since I have that skill that replenishes 1 arrow when you use Qi blasts, I managed to have arrows around throughout the battle.
Nice, congrats on beating Eigong! The one thing about the fight that's really neat is how many different strategies there are to win and seeing how other people did things.
@@CrankyTemplar I guess one needs to find a certain approach that works for them or that they're comfortable with. If it works...it works and you just roll with it. I even checked Steam forums and people had some variations in the Jades installed. I actually tried changing it a bit until I found my original was more or less the most convenient. Once again appreciate your video and your skill....until we meet again.
I missed the true ending by one single Shennong poison. I'm glad I replayed from the point of no return and beat her a second time, because the true ending was fantastic.
Just beat her. Full control was an absolute killer in the last phase, think I got her in 4 or 5 blasts. Watching your vid also helped me getting a hang of the rhythm of that last bullshit attack, so thanks.
I just started fighting this boss and after about 10 tries I still can't get the timing of any strike in her first phase lol they all seem to be slightly delayed and my brain just can't account for it 😂 this is going to be a long one
I think the delay is easier to manage when you find the attacks that let you get hits in between, but it's still quite hard, hope you stick with it, is an awesome fight to execute
This looks so hard ;-; Great job on the fight! Very satisfying to watch For some reason the ways you dodged his dash attack are pretty funny to me. Everyone can tell it’s playing on the classic “i’m so fast that my attacks only hit you after i’m done”, but then you can just jump over him and completely get out of the way lol. 2:06 explosion stall to dodge it is also a really creative use of its long charge time that i didn’t expect. I’ve been curious: does this fight change at all based on which ending you go for?
I guess my comment was eaten, but I found mid-air stall talisman explosions the safest way to use them (especially for five charges) as you're otherwise very vulnerable to Eigong's talismans or if she uses her dash slash. If you go for the normal ending you only have the first two phases so the fight is easier.
@@CrankyTemplar ahh i see. Yeah third phase looks brutally hard, especially with the opening 3 slashes. I heard it deals huge damage (even could one shots you?) too, so must be frustrating to learn at first. Wait "she"? Her name (in Chinese) is usually used for male characters so i just assumed he. Oops.
Yeah, Eigong is female. She gives off hard-as-nails granny vibes. I think the 3 slashes if it ends on a red one can take you from full to dead (or very close) but it's very easy to do imprecise parries for them since the first two come close together. A lot of Eigong's big moves like her talisman or orb explosions hit pretty hard and set you on fire.
I will never get bored watching people fight this boss, what a boss. Shame the phase 3 track is always cut short though LOL, but good fight! Slightly unrelated fun fact, since you mentioned the arrow. There is a short amount of i frames during the animation of using the bow, and someone had tried beating Eigong with primarily using the cloud piercer Congrats on beating the game!
Thanks! I did see that the bow gave some brief I-frames but I was pretty fond of the thunderburst + talisman explosion combo that worked on a good number of bosses. Not so much with Eigong, although thunderburst would work when she does those big slash shockwaves starting in P2 but I felt the damage boost from going Enhanced Full Control would be better than sticking with Enhanced Qi Blast. Plus I usually preferred cloud piercer if Eigong did stuff like a talisman or orb explosion on the opposite end of the screen.
@@CrankyTemplar i definitely find full control to work best against Eigong. The cloud piercer is generally really useful just for the stagger alone I do hope a boss rush is coming soon and hopefully allows to experiment more builds!
Just beat her. The way I beat her was very different from this video, but I still have the notion that the 3rd phase was bullshit. You never ever introduce a new attack in the boss' third phase, let alone an attack that has no start up and puts the boss off-screen. This will frustrate a lot of players for sure. Any new attack should build on what the 2 phases already introduced, thats why 2nd phase eigong is my favorite. It has a new attack that can insta kill you but its so telegraphed, and all the other moves are just extensions of her previous combos. Designing a boss this way would lead to players almost mastering the 1st and 2nd phase. Because you need to get that time to learn that move in 3rd phase. It almost plays so differently compared to the first 2 phases, that's a big no no. Even Fromsoft never introduces a new fast move in any 3rd phase. When they do, the move is extremely telegraphed.
Congrats on beating the fight! I think the third phase is alright particularly since it's only available for the true ending and it's not too uncommon to have extra phases for those circumstances.
In what rulebook does it say you don't add abiltiies in the third phase? I love it personally, I wish there were more games with multi phase bosses which ramp up in difficulty and force you to master the previous phases. In each phase of Eigong the new most important move is added at the very start: P1 double dash > slam, P2 4 slashes, P3 full screen slash. So everytime you get to the phase you have the opportunity to learn it. This boss felt noticeably fairer than some of the bullshit FROM have been adding into their recent games, and it was definitely much more readable.
The only ones that mattered were Hedgehog Jade and Swift Descent Jade. I remember having Quick Dose on while learning the fight and never took it off along with having Stasis Jade on basically the whole game even though it doesn't do anything for bosses. You can definitely used jades that boost charged attacks easily if you prefer to counter with them.
Seems TH-cam deleted my first comment. Samus, Ori and Haiku survived. The Knight from Hollow Knight has a few different endings. So that's debatable. Plus I'm sure they're more Metroidvanias where the main character actually survives
This boss really put all your skills to the test. This night be the Genichiro/Isshin esque final fight
It's an incredibly well-done fight. Frustrating as hell when you miss a precise parry though with how long the fight is but exciting when it all comes together.
After watching this video and seeing further than 3 seconds past the second phase I think I’ll be retiring from this game

@@CrankyTemplar Bo looks more like Hollow Knight which I am not a fan of.
Oh hey dashing with talisman in air for her three slash attack (like at 0:35) was pretty smart! never thought of that
That was the easiest way I found for using Full Control, though there may be easier ways (especially since I don't always connect with the talisman).
"Hesitation is defeat" ahh bossfight
The only complaint i have on this fight is either boss or you just dies when music is about to kick off in last phase lmao.

What in the Dragon Ball is that 3RD Phase?!
FINALLY someone posts this fight without some nerd talking about it the background. Thank you!
No problem, but in general most folks that upload hitless boss fights will do it without commentary.

Great job man I'm currently struggling at the 3rd phase. What jades are you using for this fight?
The only one that really mattered was Hedgehog Jade so that you do internal damage when parrying. Any other combo of jades work well.
