I do appreciate when a game comes out that tries to be different and isn't just one of the big name roguelikes but warmed over. Necrosmith definitely used familiar mechanics in a unique way, and this seems to as well. Would very much enjoy more of this one. Also, the "your deck is your army" mechanic reminds me of a game called Golem Gate, except that one is an RTS.
Thanks for the video Aavak! Saw Wander play the demo a lil while back and it enjoyed then, and this release video just sold me on the whole premise! A lot of familiar mechanics, all bundled up in a quaint pixel art style with quirky writing/story to top it off, good stuff! Glad to have watched your video, definitely going to pick this one up.
Aavak, this is just a general impression I got from observing, but the targetting AI for your units seeeeeeems to prioritize spreading out damage in such a way that results in the most enemy units dieing utilizing all of the attack you will get that turn, followed by trying to spread damage as efficiently as possible with the least wasted damage in an attempt to minimize damage taken, but the first priority seems to be to try and kill things where ever possible.

That was an impressive assortment of boneheaded plays around 50:00, from not realizing that you may actually need multiple units that can actually do offense to reading "If you get into a fight you lose all of your captured units" and immediately running into a dangerous tile due to shinies instead of your captured units right next to it.
What a charming and interesting game. I especially like that the card aspect doesn't feel tacked on, and that the tactics are sound and varied. Also, you know, we get to play as necromancer. Also-Also, the art is just this lovely mix of 'Apple II freeware game', 'competent indie sprites', and 'straight up MSPaint art'. It's all so good. 9/10, probably gonna dump too much time into once I get it. :3
I would agree to an extent, but I still think it makes sense to keep things to the lowest number that you can. A bigger deck could hurt at the beginning of the battle, before the key enabling pieces are out yet, by making you have to dig through more cards until your economy is set up. Every fight I saw in this video gave a couple of safe turns at the start to get set up and mitigate the effects of a bad opening hand, but I wouldn't want to get complacent and expect the game to always be like that!
So it looks like the vampires _do_ give back their souls when they die. I think that "doesn't give souls when sacrificed" thing might just mean they can't be sacrificed with something like the dagger to get _extra_ souls. Which makes sense. Being able to get 6 extra souls with one play of the dagger seems a bit OP for such an early card.
It's a crime that a game this good only costs 5€. In today gaming landscape if a game gives you 1 hour of fun for 1€ of cost i consider it a great game at this game delivers and incredible amount of hours of fun for such a price
The merging gets confusing when it requires 2 units of the same type because each slot that needs a unit will say you have X out of 1 required unit, where X is the total number of that unit that you have. But when they both require the same unit, each slot will still say you have X out of 1. So when you're down to 1 unit, it says you have 1 out of 1 unit on each slot making it look like you meet the requirement, but you can really only fill one slot. When you do have enough, it also makes it look like each slot is consuming 2 instead of 1 since each number goes down by 2, but really it's just the same number being shown twice. I feel like I didn't explain that very well.
This is again one of those games i enjoy watching ut not playing. Im curious how the story will unfold. Also: perhapse next taste try focussing on taking out as many bosses as you can in a attempt to gain more meta progression?
That poor poor "sacrifice unit" card, neglected for hundreds of turns whilst Aavak complained he had no free souls and too many archers for his scapegoats to die.
@@sarahsmith840 It is less of a normal deckbuilder and more just uses the card format to make it easier for you to understand your units which is fine.

The dogs in this game are mental. They're like corgis but half of their body is just the head/mouth.

Muddying your deck doesn't matter if you generate so much mana that you can play your entire deck

You can see the heavy Necrosmith vibes in the animation, which is slightly floppy in a weirdly grotesque way and I'm not sure how I feel about it!
