As a German Veteran of the 23rd Gebirgsjägerbrigade (231st Bataillon) with 2 Tours in Afghanistan and 1 in Kosovo via KFOR, i gotta say, i feel so silly now that when we did extensive WW1-Style "Trench Warfare" Excercises with CQC in extreme Conditions as Gebirgsjäger, all of us were annoyed and angry about it, talking about how unecessary that is, and how it's the typical German Thing of teaching both Modern (worthwhile) but also very old and outdated (not worthwhile) Combat Strategies, because German Bureaucracy is so slow, it can't bother to update anything.
Now over 10 Years later: We actually now train Ukrainian (and even some Foreign Volunteer) Soldiers in Harsh Weather & Trench Warfare!
Turns out learning this kind of Combat suddenly is relevant again and now the Soldiers fighting in Ukraine come to us en Masse to learn about it. I definitely feel silly now that we made fun about having to learn all about this kind of Warfare back then, thinking it will never be useful

When clearing trenches, you DO NOT ask any questions, and you eliminate every threat you encounter. You leave nothing behind that could literally bite you in the ass at a later stage. As a retired veteran of 12 years armoured infantry with the Royal Dutch Army we did many exercises on attaching and clearing trenches I know all too well what it takes though respect to these Ukrainian as they take it to the next level.

      The Dutch courtsystem sucks bigtime.
If this was a Dutch soldier, the Dutch court of justice would do everything in their power to try to sue you for murder.
We have seen this multiple times that Dutch marines were plain betrayed by their own justice system, because they were send to trail for............indeed, just doing their jobs.
And the family of the iraqy soldier got a big payment in compensation.
      it's insane, but true.
As a Dutch soldier, you would get into trouble if you would perform the exact same action.

Every legal system has is strong points and weak points and nowhere is it perfect

@@kplkasteel This is the main problem about voting.
Because know very well, that we don't get the politcians we vote for.
The primairy example is our current prime minister?
Who the hell is that guy?
I never voted for mister Schoof.
To even make it more clear, nobody did.
      And why is that?
Because he never was a canidate during the elections.
Democracy is everything but democratic in The Netherlands.
All the party's that were amongst the biggest for decades, alway's claimed to be "democratic".
But this is only limited, as far as the Democratic system works in their favor.
Having all this said, this do not change anything about the subject of Dutch soldiers fighting for that same freedom.
Because in multiple situations like i just mentioned, Dutch soldiers are treated like war criminals if they do exactly what they are ordered to do.
I have been in the army for over eight years having to fight in the same type of conditions.
And i can tell you right now that if i was that same soldier in that trench with the go-pro, i would have been arrested by the Dutch justice system for what?
Doing my job to fight for freedom.
Exactly the same as the guys in this video do for us right now.
And you can keep that "happiest, safest, richest country" nonsense for yourself.

@@kplkasteel You can keep that "happiest, safest, richest country in the world for yourself"
Because you seem to live in a bubble.
It has been more than clear to the last 3 to 4 years, that the justice system based more and on feelings and sentiment, than on law.
And voting for something else in the Netherlands is everything but simple
it's also clear that the same political party's in a way "hijacked" the democratic system
Their defition of "democracy" is the total opposite of what real democracy should be.
You know all to well, that so called "Democracy" is all a farce in the Netherlands.
All the political party's that have been the biggest for decades all claim to be democratic.
But we all can clearly see what happens, when the democratic system doe not work in their favor.
One of the best examples is the new prime minister "Schoof".
Everybody wants to know who the hell that guy is.
Not a single Dutchman had voted for this person.
Let me be a littlebit more clear, "Schoof" has even never been electable.
And now we have been put up with a prime minister, that the voting public never voted for.
Geert Wilders should have been become the prime minister, but all the other party's just sabotage the whole democratic process by blocking Geert Wilders to become the Prime Minister.
We see time and time again, that Political party's like VVD, CDA, D66, all disrespect the voice and vote of the Dutch people.
The glass is not even half full.
It is about to become as empty and dry as the desert.
And a rapidly growing number of Dutch start to realize this.

Since apparently my Comment is on the Top and we teach Ukrainians here in Bavaria regularly in all kinds of Combat & of course German Weaponry, Vehicles etc.
Don't you worry about that. I can tell you for certain if our Gouvernment would instruct us to go to Ukraine and help out, the vast Majority of us would not bat an Eye at all.
Especially those of us who grew up with Grandfathers who are WW2 Veterans and fought alongside Ukrainians or in Ukraine against Soviet Russia.
Now i know me saying this will get a lot of negative Comments from People, but judging the average Soldier from WW2 by todays Standards is always ridiculous and that is true for both Veterans from the Western Allies, the Axis and the Eastern Allies like Soviet Russia. Different Times, different Knowledge, different Childhood.
Either way, here in Southern Bavaria countless of Ukrainian Refugees (both Civilians and Veterans who fought against Soviet Russia defending Ukraine, while also not being 100% Friends of the Axis Forces to be fair) started their new Life after WW2 because of all the German, Austrian and in some Cases even Albanian, Croatian and Spanish Axis Soldiers taking those Ukrainians with them towards the End of the War.
So i for example grew up with lots of Ukrainian Kids, Ukrainian Family Friends coming over for BBQ, both WW2 Vets and their Children and Grandchildren in the late 1980s and 1990s until today.
Now since the Invasion of Ukraine nearly all of these Families originating from Ukrainian WW2 Vets and Refugees living in the Towns around here also took in the current Ukrainian Refugees, who i must say so far are Refugees who managed to learn the German Language faster since 2022 than probably some Germans i grew up with did haha.

war in general is terrifying, u watch it online like "videogame" , but being there... trust me most people will have insane stress levels, fear and after war all what has bubbled in you, becomes PTSD , most of them won't be normal people after the war. in case of slavs.. a lot of them will be alcoholics or junkies.
it all depends. if ur defending ur country , u might cope with it being righteous.. so you actually dont have remorse or guilt from killing ur attackers.
for example my grandfather was in winter war , was knighted after the war and medals etc... estonian volunteer to finnish army...
always baffled me why he had no traumas... he even buried FOUR WIVES in his lifetime, after 3rd wife he spent 6months in insane asylum for depression ,
but wasnt in for war experience itself... he died at age 96 not manay years ago. have you noticed the pattern how a lot of ww2 vets who survived lived to very high ages? shows that hardship makes you stronger , spending 2 years in siberian war prisoner camp at -40c sure makes your immune system strong, if u dont die...

12th Special Forces Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov” is operating in "Serebryansky Reserve" or "Serebryansky Forest" south from Kreminna (This is an area of the nature reserve fund of the Luhansk region, a botanical reserve of local importance). The fighting there has been going on since the fall of '22, I don't know when Azov got there, but definitely later. This is one of several known areas on the front where Azov and Ukrainian troops in general, have advanced, which is unfortunately a rarity nowadays. In the age that everyone was thinking trench warfare is a thing from the past and no longer needed. As example, during my service in Finland, we didn't dig a single pot hole. We did do some training on ready built trenches, but in there are no excavators to dig them everywhere. Recently I heard a podcast from Finnish volunteer who had done couple tours in Ukraine. He said that digging in is mandatory to stay alive due to very heavy artillery fire and drones. Sometimes people laugh at Russian artillery, but they are pretty good at that. Combined with current technology and drones, they can get fire mission on target in minutes and with good accuracy. Of course heavily used artillery pieces eventually lose some of the accuracy, but it is no place to stand around without cover.

@@jpenna1976 My dude, only morons thought "trench warfare" was a thing of the past.
You're confusing a re-alignment in military mission, with a change in military strategy. Digging in, in a conventional conflict, will never, EVER, not be a thing. Trenches being one of the most effective ways to dig in, means trenches will always be a thing.
Fun fact, did you know that more trenches were dug in WW2, by several times, than in WW1?
Every single conventional war in the modern era, has featured trenches, or trench like analogues. Why do you think it would change?
For the last 30 years or so, NATO and NATO aligned countries have re-aligned to fight COIN. COIN is different from conventional warfare as I am sure you know. The expectation of combat when you are fighting guys who may not even have heavy machineguns, or mortars, is VERY different from fighting a modern, mechanized military power that has their own air power.
If you honestly thought grunts cowering in trenches hoping they didn't get RNG bingo'd was a thing of the past, you weren't paying attention.

Kako smo mi pobijedili, tako ce o ukrajina. Jer onaj tko brani svoju drzavu i obitelj, je najbolji vojnik na svijetu. Hrvatska i Ukrajina su bratske drzave i sami ljudi. If the bloke was trying to surrender, different story. Even though he was wounded and likely f-ed up, he is still a combatant. Nothing to prove he didn't have a grenade on him or was in control of another area denial device. It's the legal standard and example of police vs soldier. A police officer has a legal obligation to civilians to preserve life by de escalating, disarm and provide first aid (if safe for them to do so). A soldiers' job is to win the fight, all parties here are soldiers, not civilians.

It was successful in the later stages of WW1 but hadn't been used since Tobruk in WW2 and to a modified raiding doctrine in Vietnam and Malaya, to a lesser extent the tunnels in the sand pit.
It's still taught at Royal Military College Duntroon. The more complex the enemy trench position is the more you raid and harass and get out. Keep them on their toes and get them thinking that you know their entrenched positions as well as they do even if you lack the capability to take the position. Difference being these days you can do it with a forward FPV drone crew than an actual raiding party I guess.
The theory is they won't sleep at night knowing that while you can't take their trench, you know every thing about it and will just raid or mostly close and harass in small teams when their eating or sleeping.

And also Vanechka is kind of a softer name only mom or close relatives use or grandparents, so chka ending is like a softer more caring which is a okay on words because they clearly are not caring about Russians but exact opposite. So they are making fun of Russians.

Red Army ran short of Handgrenades in WW2. So after it they perfectionised the production and managed to lower the production costs to a pathetically low number. I forgot it, but it was unbelievably low for the standart model. So they were able to produce like endless numbers of them. Really impressive and most likely still affecting the war in Ukraine.

I would be willing to bet clearing trenches with the constant fear of grenades, mortar fire, tanks, and machine gun spray AT NIGHT would be a case where you have no right to call foul play.
