  • A recent Demonstration using Pan Pastels and Pastels for an Art Society. 3 Paintings in a 2 Hours session using Unison, Rembrandt and Jacksons Pastels, Plus Pan Pastels for Colorfin. Pan Pastels have a different consistency to pastels so add a new and excting dimension to my work.

    Glad to see you back although I wished we could have your voice and not a speedy demonstration. Too bad we all could not be sitting there to hear you . I have been following you as a new artist to pastel , I think your art work is amazing . Thank you for sharing

      Sima abedini These are teaser videos. They're done to draw you to his website to purchase his DVD sets on how to pastel. Many well known artists do this and they are well worth the purchase as you can follow along, freeze, replay, and the exercises over and over.

      Sima abedini ~ when I watch these videos on my Ipad, I can slow them down. In the right top corner there are 3 dots underneath each other, you click on it and a menu comes up, including “playback speed” click on it and you will be able to adjust the speed, on mine I can slow it down by about a 1/4. 😃 If you don’t have an IPad, have a play around with the setting that show up on screen.

      They are a little white dots, top right of what you are watching. (not the black dots under the videos available to watch)

    Ow wow, I HAVE to get me some of these Panpastels. Do they work well on non-sanded papers?

    • @lesdarlow
      @lesdarlow  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes indeed, probably the best on cotton papers.I love them on Canson Mi Teintes, 50% cotton pastel paper

      @@lesdarlow I have some of those papers in black color. I tried them for regular pastel work but found that I could not get much layering on. When I checked the paper tablet, it did not tell me the percentage of cotton But it is Canson Mi Teintes. It just says cotton content/dual surface, pulp-dyed/ISO9706 longevity. It is 98 pound, 160 g, Where do you think I could get the PanPastels at the best price? Cheap Joe's? Dick Blick?

      @@lesdarlow Okay, will do. I do shop Amazon as we live in a very rural area and long drive to stores. I do have a brand-new pad of Canson mi teintes so I'll start with that. I'm also trying to find some good soft (VERY soft) pastels that are flat and not round. I can't afford Terry Ludwig b/c I'm just a beginner. Could you recommend a good soft pastel for a beginner? I have a large set of hard pastels but now I'd like to get soft pastels for the final layer of paint for hilites, etc. Thanks for your help, Les.

    Hiya Les. Really love your work. I am about to get myself a set of PanPastels. One of the issues I had with soft pastels is that whoever I used a spray finishers it killed the colour. I tried hair spray as well as the branded sprays.
    Do you use any sort of finisher for your work?

    • @lesdarlow
      @lesdarlow  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't use any fixative, although I don't really put a lot of pastel on the paper... Pan pastel shouldn't need fixing really.

    How hard do you press the pans onto board, I can’t get it to move like you do it gets stuck and won’t drag along.
