Drikung Kagyu Institute (DKI) was founded by His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche, the head of the Drikung Kagyu branch of Tibetan Buddhism, in 1985. Located at Dehradun, Uttarakhand , it aims to preserve, promote and develop Buddhist philosophy and culture.
The monastic school of the Drikung Kagyu Institute provides general education to the monks. Buddhist philosophy, Tibetan language and literature, mathematics, social science, English, and biographies of the lineage masters are taught. Monthly oral presentations, 45-days summer retreat and special week-long pujas are organized. Its nunnery accommodates nuns. The curriculum of the nunnery is same as that of the monastery school. There is a library, Songtsen Library, under this institute, which houses a collection of rare books on Tibetan and Himalayan studies.
Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport and Dehradun Railway Station is the closet railhead.
