This performance is from their original show. It was gathered from the tape that they released called "We Reinvented The Circus" Denis Lacombe acts in this unique clown performance.
Some of you clearly do not know what traditional clown acts are/were. This is completely brilliant! Many circuses try to hard to be different but one thing that Cirque du Soleil does is keep traditional acts in their shows. This is especially true when it comes to their clowns. They may not always be in traditional attire, but the act itself almost always is.
I saw this live when they played Washington DC (late 80s early 90s?). I seem to recall that the act was just a bit more manic and even more hilarious than just what they showed here. To this day, still the funniest act I've seen.
"Yes, it is." It IS more Bouffon than Auguste? That's good to know, especially since I didn't know if those classifications could apply to Character Clowns, as well... "I absolutely and most definitely love clowning...in anyway whatsoever." Um...'kay. Perhaps. Though I have no clue where that defensively competitive comment came from whatsoever. But whatever. M. Lacombe is certainly fantastic. And thanks again, dmcipod, for sharing this with fellow performance-lovers! :)
I'm currently discovering my clown, and found this absolutely fascinating. And, yes, rather shocking, almost to point of frightening. The inhuman persistence and energy, (strongly portrayed in the laugh), the grotesque facial expressions, and unbridled glee he brings to rather masochistic undertakings...isn't this more of a bouffon than an Auguste? I'm very knew at this, and am loving it to death, so just wanted to ask out of curiosity. So glad I found this clip! :)
NEW IS SPELLED NEW............THE K IS NOT NECESSARY. If this freighted you then you should have walked away. There's no need for us who enjoyed this to read about you hatin on this. Just keep your negative thoughts and opinion to your self Shana. Step away from the key boards tiz what you should have done years ago.
@pierpa1975 Brandon is right, this was one of the origonal Acts, in each show, they will always have a clown act. That way the can cheer up the crowd after them being in awe :P
ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This guy is amazingly hilarious! I understand why some people don't like clowns, but I think horror movies need to stop using them as monsters! Seriously, it's shit like that that gives clowns a bad name! Ruins the poor children, too. And don't get me started on the people who dress like clowns and act like total a-holes!
@ThatIsNotMyMama Me too. I agree. This wasn't as good as the conductor act. Clowns with the typical clown make up are lame. Cirque clowns without the make up are cool.
the people of youtube must be really talented if they think they're better than someone who performs for an international circus... but maybe they prefer sex, drugs, and fart jokes
it is an example of a horrible clown... I cannot understand, how ethey can dare to post this video under the title: we reinvented the circus! All numbers are old and performed in a violent way, which is not at all clowning! Clowns never want to be funny! They have serious problems!

I remember watching this on HBO years ago when I was a little girl.... Forever left an impression on me. I had never seen anything like it before.
The bit that made me fall in love with Cirque
Forever in my heart, Denis Lacombe, even though you almost killed me from laughing so hard. Merci beaucoup.
This is one of my favorite acts for Cirque Du Soleil. Thanks for the post.

I own the VHS too, but the tape is in a pretty bad shape because I must've seen it like a billion times by now...

So do I! I wish there was a way to watch it again in it's entirety.
Denis Lacombe (this one) and John Gilkey (Quidam) were the best clowns on Cirque.

You gotta admit the laughing is a little creepy.
if you think they have serious problems then you have the problems

Steve what?...liar!
Yeah CduS reinvented the circus.
Then they went bankrupt and now China is lending them money.
Figures.
Half the performers are from China.
More like Circus So Lame..
Muito forçado sem graça
we reinvented the circus was not a very good title for this....
👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
