Absolutely!I was lucky enough to see them on tour together in 2008 and was very impressed with them both.Country is not a genre I'm familiar with but Alison has an amazing voice. They put their own unique stamp on some old Led Zeppelin numbers too.

It is not that it hasn’t lost anything, it is that his voice matured and got better. Good thing too, because if he still was still way down there at the quality he was at in LZ, Allison would not have stopped to that level.

Yes his voice has matured nicely since his LZ days. It’s a good thing too. If his voice has not gotten better, and was still stuck at that LZ quality, Allison would have had nothing to do with him.

That vocal harmony is gorgeous! On the one hand there’s Plant, a very powerful voice, maybe best known for his power, singing so mellow, and still with feeling. And on the other, Kraus, a star in her own right (maybe even a legend), singing so gently that you just about can’t pick her voice out...it just blends sublimely!

We saw Plant and Krauss with this band in 2008, third row in a smaller venue on Alison's side. Never will forget it, their tasty renditions and the way they sang off each other and with each other was so very cool. What I felt about Plant that night was how focused vocally he was, and had a very humble demeanor, praising the band, praising Alison, totally laying back and folding into the singing. It was so great to feel him so into each song, very intentional and just being a part of the band (as if he really could ever do that!).

In the fall of 1983, I saw Robert Plant in concert. At the time, he was promoting his first solo album. I guess you could say that I've always been a lukewarm Zeppelin fan, but I became a diehard fan of Plant's. He was absolutely AMAZING and still is, in my humble opinion. Truly, one of the greatest voices of rock.

Met Alison at the Station Inn (my favorite club) in Nashville, TN, Robert, too. She has the most natural personality and sweetest singing voice. T-Bone Burnett is a real deal producer, he even remodeled a facsimile of the original Sun Studio, he’s on the acoustic guitar here. Love the Raising Sand CD, that old school sound appeals to me.

They’ve continued to do SO well together, and, as you’ve displayed to us in detail, Phil, that lady is an immaculately accurate pinpointed of notes, which made Robert’s decision to work with her ( still ) deeply admirable. She’s a bluegrass maestro, as we all know, a master of a genre that tolerates virtually no gaffes whatsoever. I do feel sorry, though, for Jimmy Page. Plant continues to express next to no real affinity with own past, let alone seriously consider anything approaching a reunion.

"Raising Sand" won a total of six Grammys, one for a single in 2007, but because of the timing of the release of the album, it was nominated and won the other five for 2008 at the Feb. 2009 show, beating, among others, Coldplay for Album of the Year. The clip of that presentation is also on YT. That brought Alison's total to 26, and she won her 27th Grammy in 2012 for the "Paper Airplane" album. She is 27 wins for 42 nominations lifetime. In baseball terms, batting over .600.

What a happy coincidence. Been listening and re-listening to Raising Sand over the last couple of days. Great, great album.

Wow, this moved me. After the analysis I went and listened to the Page/Plant version and the studio Plant/Krauss version. Loved Page's guitar in his version. Loved how Plant showed this side of his singing voice. I felt that both Allison and Robert Plant were letting each other come into their performing worlds, just a bit but enough. It was a great feeling. I do not mind at all how Fil explains these performances do not happen by accident. Some of the magic is lost by knowing a bit about how it is done but that is OK. Thanks Fil.

Bluegrass singers are known for their tight blend of their voices, so working with Allison elevated the musical experience. This sounds beautiful.

I know that whenever Alison Krauss or Patty Loveless are providing harmony vocals, it's going to be worth my time. They add such a earnest conviction to their vocals - that give such depth of feeling - that it almost makes you feel guilty for listening to something that feels so personal.

"So, everything rolled into one is Alison..." I couldn't agree more. I first saw her on the TV show "Austin City Limits" when she was, I believe, 19, and I've been a fan ever since. She always does JUST what's right for the song with impeccable musicality.
BTW, though she's known for that crystal clear, delicate vocal sound, she can really belt it out if the occasion calls for it. Check the video of her singing "These Dreams" with Heart.

The beauty of this song is of its simplicity....the emphasis at the start is the sound of the first beat of each chord change...however, it's the "less is more" principle that is fundamental to its beauty...not a single note is wasted.... and this includes the two solos midway and at the end of the song .....the two voices meld together superbly and you can feel the chemistry between Plant and Krauss....that was highlighted in their many interviews for "Raising Sand"....I'd like to see them both do a follow - up ...once again, a nice, top notch analysis and appraisal Fil...!

Thanks for this, Fil. I love them both. I was able to see Robert with his band, The Sensational Space Shifters, two years ago. I hope you can do an analysis video of something the SSS did. They were amazing.
