Mindblowing, the final touch with the multiband dynamics was like magic, from a slightly distorted sound to a clean and dry sound, something I wanna achieve with my masters. Gonna study this video and try to apply every concept, thanks.
Love the quality of the video, I don't mean just the information but also how it's presented. The little zooomed in elements on the side of the screen that show details is great. Subscribed.

cutting something as low as 30hz is often about freeing up headroom, but the phase shift from using a steep filter slope to cut these lows may actually cause you to lose headroom. Something to watch out for and A/B or you might get a quieter master. using a more shallow slope (like 6db/oct) or linear phase filters can help to avoid this issue
What is the difference between cutting 20 or 30, people cut 20 all the time. I think people overthink these things, its literally quicker to make a cut, and check its phase for problems than it is to do any of the work around or fixes lol
@@kasbymusic but the fix was to use a limiter to control the peaks, this video is about mastering so there will be something in the chain to prevent that already. Edit, I just tested this with a kick, HPF @ 30 Hz. Kick was -9 db before and 1 db higher with HPF engaged. BUT the resulting frequencies that are louder are distributed among the partials, so you can use an EQ instead of a limiter to maintain the balance. A high cut/pass above 5K on a kick did the same peak reduction as a limiter and same as a 1 db cut with a low shelf and same as a 1.5 db cut @3.8
@@chocomalk a limiter will be there at the end of the chain in any mastering scenario regardless. The idea with the high pass is to increase headroom. if the resulting phase shift is taking away headroom by increasing peak level this is counterproductive, even if ultimately your limiter is stopping everything at 0db and under
@@jon0830 Its not just to increase headroom, those frequencies only add mud and the increase could be compensated before it got mixed down by cutting literally any frequency not needed in the offending track. I just tested it on a kick. A HPF increased the peak by 1 dB and a -2 high shelf at 5Kish put it back, so did a bell at around 3k and a gentle low shelf also did the same. It all depends on final product but you dont need a limiter
bro? I've 3 questions to ask?!?! well, I've completed your course. yes, it's changed my potential to take on creative path... ur concepts r much more easier to understand...!! 1st. I've complete ur course, what's next? 2nd: can we expect more courses from you? 3rd: I'm serious about making industrial hits... how can i get there without any support?
@@acsone3546 bro maybe it's sarcasm...... anyways if you don't know let me do it for you.... So actually it's a loudness unit relative to full scale basically it is a loudness counting unit just like db but more accurate and it is used as reference point for loudness of a song like all the audio streaming platforms like apple Spotify and all recommend -14 to -13 or 15 but it is not essential like as long as it sounds good even -8 or 9 can do or even 11 12 can do your work
Max i loved this video .....i have one question tho....if the beat contains no kick, only 808 etc,do you still need to compress the low end like you did with the last maximus, and does it need to be done differently than showed in the video?
I would also turn on Linear Phase in the maximus eq bands section (Not sure what it's called exactly), and bring down the low cut to zero since you already cut it. I guess cutting it twice isn't that big a deal but linear phase on will reduce the db output.
your level of expertise at that age (I assume you're under 30, pardon me if i'm wrong 😅) blows my mind 🤯👏 I'm so glad I bought your courses on PML, all praise Max the GOAT 🙌
Sounds overdone with the compression to me, I can hear the distortion, and its not nice to my ears. Personally I wouldn't use FL's stock plugins for Mastering, as I think they aren't quite up to the highest standard for that application. I also think that applying a low cut at 30hz as a "rule" is a tad lazy, and shouldn't be applied as a default decision. Fix that stuff in the mix. Just wanted to add my two cents for anyone wanting to try these techniques. 👽☯️
I just have a mastering chain that I load before I even start and just to try to level match a reference track. Took years before I found a good enough intuition and sense of balamce to use a chain from the beginning. Mid-Side EQ patcher, (i have one on every track plus every bus as well, and reverbs), The God Particle, Limiter x64, and 3-4 limiters at -0.5 for safety. (Not in that order but I can sell the chain 😜)
@@RP-vq4wd why? A lot of pros do the same. It's more efficient and it removes excuses as to why a master isn't good. It takes out guess work and allows good workflow when you are working completely alone from the ground up. Sound design, composition, arrangement, vocal recording, engineering, mixing, mastering. It's great to have some of those steps be automatic. The mastering chain that I use is very transparent anyways
@@Rck-vert yeah does wonders because i like to have the kick way above everything else and compress it into the mix during the mastering process. Keeps the kick and bass tight and allows me to have a good snare that doesnt pierce in a car with loud volume
i was thinking you could be super precise with a low end cut (the aggressive high pass) based on what you know is the lowest note being played by the bass/subbass or based on the key/scale of the track

@@theMixElite disagree again.. if you look at the signal flow of the Maximus you find out that the saturation is on the end of it so the compressed/limited sound goes to the saturation.. it goes Stereo separation => pre gain => compressor => post gain => saturation

(and i am not talking about the way to do it but the approach herself that can lead a new producer or new mixing engineer to ruin the mix by doing it on many track if not even on all tracks). I am almost sure Baphometrix talked about that but i didn’t watched all of his video but he probably talked about that as i start to know his approach of mixing.
