Wow, I really enjoyed watching this. My Dad drove the trolley buses at this time. He would tell us kids stories about his experiences. He always spoke fondly of a conductor he worked with called Sloaner. I couldn't help thinking my Dad could have been driving one of the vehicles in the footage. My Dad passed in 2011.
Excellent to view this. Trolleybuses were deemed old hat then , they only had two years to go till 68 when they were discontinued and scrapped. I remember how fast they were. Felt like I was at York street again as an 8 year old.. well done.
I saw our bus!! The number 13 for the Falls and Glen Road !!! Remember how the conductor used to get a shock when the trolly arms came off the lines on a wet day! And he used a bamboo pole to hoist it back up.
I was 8 years old at that time living in the Donegal Pass, not far from the City hall. I remember going to Smithfield market on a Saturday to the joke shop to by ichy powder lol.
As a Holywood boy, we were 'banned' from Belfast, so my itchin' powder and stink bombs were purchased in Bangor, just up the hill from Barries. That said, the 'stink bombs' did last the train ride to Belfast. As I alighted into Keeky Bay in the Kinegar...
Brings back the best memories 3 years later our beautiful city was to be bombed and all our child hood was robbed from us my generation didn't know how much we missed out on until our children grew up years of a locked up bombed out burnt out these our the memories sadly .
I watched another video but can't find it again. There was a short clip in it of a bus coming off the albertbridge I think heading out of Belfast. It sparked a memory that I can't quite place. The bus seemed not to go straight onto the Albert ridge Road but seemed to go straight down what I'm guessing is Madrid Street for 100 yards then turn right for a short length then left onto the albertbridge road. Am I completely wrong or was there like a little square at this junction of short strand, Rivenhall Rd and the Albertbridge??

Great selection off old Belfast Corporation and Ulster Transport Authority buses all bodies bodied locally the UTA bodied its own vehicles.
Far too many cars on the roads, now-a-days. Thank you for this FANTASTIC video...

It's great to see all the "picture houses" in the city centre. As a boy I would go to the Curzon mostly.
The music put me in the mood to watch The Sting.

You lived in Donegall pass - there's an l of a difference!

Lovely old pictures and great to see, however the music style is from about 50+ years earlier!
Memories..
Wow Belfast Jack thanks for posting. Brilliant. My gran /mum were from North derby street and my dad worked in the CoOp.
So delightful ☺
Brilliant.
Generally brilliant, but even more so for classic car enthusiasts. Mind you, none of these cars were classics then!
Great footage thank you
My granda drove the UTA bus for ages. A double decker.
Brilliant video.
That old train station should have been restored.
