The ASM HydraSynth has 3 oscillators per voice. Osc 1 and 2 have 2 "Mutant" effectors each which allow you to shape the timbre to your liking. More info at fluxwithit.com/...
Thanks everyone for watching, if you would be so kind as to rub up against the like button, and subscribe. It would make my hollow existence just a little less drab.
I've come back here from late 2020 and it's amazing how much ASM have added in firmware updates now, but this is still incredible! When I was 15 in 1980, this is the sort of thing I imagined synths should be able to do - but back then, nothing came close (things like Synclavier and Fairlight took it partway there, but cost way more than my dad's car). This leap forward has only been possible because of the immense advances in computational power. I just love what this synth can do!
ASM showed that digital can do analog like sounds well. They also showed that with digital controls they can take things much further. You can pick what you want, simple to complicated, it seems nearly unlimited. If ASM keeps updating this thing this synth is a current beast and future classic.
14:06 Great demo of functionality! I love that harmonic mode. Harmonic sweeps are like a filter without using a filter! Hopefully, my Hydrasynth is being delivered to me tomorrow, 16 November 2020.
Awesome Ken....I waited for quite a few months before I pushed the button and ordered - my usual cautionary approach until new firmware releases get issued after extensive user feedback. But now I await my new friend with increasing excitement and am now gorging myself on your series. Excellent work, especially this one on the oscillators. Great job, and thank you. F
Thanks Ken!!! I’m so glad I found your video. I’m a beginner and your simple/basic informative video is just what I needed. Just ordered the Explorer. Can’t wait for it to arrive.
Thanks for this very informative video Ken. I just purchased the keyboard version, wow what an amazing machine it really gets your imagination flowing.
This thing is insane. It's like everything I've ever wanted to be able to do sonically.... This does it! Oh, and thanks for the warning, but these sounds are like a soothing lullaby to me. 😁
Paul Johnson ya people unfamiliar with my channel may be expecting the sort of content others provide. I’m a tad nerdy with this stuff and figured I’d head those negative comments of “play some skynard “ off right at the gate haha
Oh damn, this can make sooo many types of sounds, even from few first mutators I kinda got some inspiration what sounds that could lead to, then modulate, add effects and play!
Well, I was really thinking I had to have the summit synth but now THIS? this thing is rediculously deep. I can see these synths showing up in a lot of electronic music.
Excellent video! Since you know all of this synth's ins and outs, may I suggest this : Take some factory patch and deconstruct how it was made. That would be amazing. Anyway, thanks!
CornelionSigismon thanks for the kind words. I’ve already done some live streams and videos on constructing presets and discuss tips used in the factory banks as well.
An amazing synth for the price which I hope ASM can build on with upgrades. Lots of modulation possibilities on oscillators sound fantastic. I would have liked to have had greater pitchbend range so that I can drive it from my theremin which can produce 4 or 5 octaves pitchbend. Also greater LFO range as this can also create sonic possibilities at higher values - Maybe add Hi/Lo . Maybe add an All-Pass filter with resonance ? Obscure filters like tube & comb can be fun, especially if plumbing in LFOs & EGs for modulation.
Cool. Usually i have a problem with the talking, but not this time. Very cool and quality video for those interested in the sonic capabilities, thanks! Now things become very simple for me: I want one, really, and am prepared to part with a substantial section of my current gear that i'm emotionally attached to. Come to Europe please.
Excellent work Ken! Thank you for taking the time to focus on this part of the synth ( which proves the oscillators alone make it worthwhile- like the Prophet 12). Looking forward to hearing the fancy filters- though I don't really need to ;-)
Robert Knight for sure , there are definitely hints of both in there. If u look on my channel u will see I love the ultranova. This is sorta like that taken way beyond and built properly substantial.
I'm noticing a strong expansion for hardware and digital synthesizers, I'm so confused that I always want to rely on experienced and kind people like you: I'm seeing these synthesizers, which ones do you think are excellent in sound quality and creation? my musical genre is trance, I saw that I am also FM. 1)BEHRINGER DeepMind 12D 2)MODAL ELECTRONICS Argon8 3)ASM Hydrasynth 4) ROLAND Jupiter-Xm (its much higher price) I like your opinion, please. thanks
I know right, 24 hours in and most people are already selling the early units on Reverb and settling for Factory on their iPad for $20 bucks with their existing midi controller. ;) Just kidding, but really, does it sound much different? lol
Wook Sound technically no, there is some huge number that’s not infinity but way higher than I can count... the 219 are waveforms. Wavetables are a collection of waveforms that you can scan through. Thing about wavetables is they are usually stagnant and you can’t reorder the waves in the table. (Not in a smooth scanning way at least). With hydrasynth you are free to build the wavetables out of any combination of waves in any order you want And scan smoothly between those.
So harsh and glassy . I’ve had one for a while. I’m just still not happy with it. Still waiting for the aha moment. I do appreciate your videos though. It’s definitely teaching me some things I’m just I’d like to see more actual usable sounds instead of just complete chaos. That’s just my opinion
@CommieBash No, you are just expressing your vue of poor people. If it was true, there would be no rock, no punk, no house, no techno, no drum n bass, no trap, no rnb, no blues, etc. Look up some documentaries about any music genra. Basically, dance music would not exist and we would still listening to classic.

Ken Flux Pierce Fluxwithit big ups for the disclaimer
*like*
Done! Thanks for the kickass review!
When I saw the disclaimer in the beginning I knew this video was going to be fkng awesome. More technical vids like this need to be on youtube!
and yet so many will still complain... thanks so much :)
Exactly why I watched it. I have one on preorder so learning details is nice.
It's a real compliment from Charles. Because Charles is a real specialist of deep technical review on his Korg Kronos TH-cam chanel.
This synth has raised the bar in my opinion.

I dug this indepth oscillator view, especially the wave scanning. This is a super powerful synth - UI panel descended from the ESQ-1 😉
Thanks Ken!!! I’m so glad I found your video. I’m a beginner and your simple/basic informative video is just what I needed. Just ordered the Explorer. Can’t wait for it to arrive.
Be sure to join the official ASM Hydrasynth Facebook group. We are very active over there with lots of great tips and help
Thank you so much for this deep exploration of the basic components.
Another mutant has been added since your video : PhazDiff.
Had mine (desktop version) for about three weeks....this thing does way more than I even know how to do. I love it!

Sounds really flexible, thanks for diving into this particular section of the synth.

Thank you . It will be interesting to see what happens with the arpeggio .

same!
Summit/Peak is a brillant instrument. Consider getting both!
Brian Sherling UDO SUPER-6
Summit is amazing; but I think the Hydra has a larger palette of sound.
Technology has come a long way.
Great work showing what's possible with the oscillator section!

musik nachtsmeer you. An pitch bend all the octaves with a theremin just use the mod matrix ;)

Holy shit this video sold me on getting one of these.

This is SICK!!! 😷 🤒 I enjoyed this demo!!
Kick ass bro. you have answered a lot of questions about it. Now, I must have it.
Wow 2 minutes in and I’m blown away 🤘
Awesome synth I want one the reminds me of ultra nova and microwave2
Robert Knight for sure , there are definitely hints of both in there. If u look on my channel u will see I love the ultranova. This is sorta like that taken way beyond and built properly substantial.
Absolutely awesome device. Great video too, thanks
wow very full of details video! thanks!!!
What you've made is a tutorial. Not a bad one at that!
I am liking a lot about this synth, but i think there is a steep learning curve here.
@3:40 Does using the mutant wavestack use up polyphony?
No

I like your opinion, please. thanks
Check out John Bowen Solaris - expensive sonic powerhouse with tons of filters, joystick & ribbon controllers
this synth is everywhere already

Thanks for the waveform overlay. I thought that was very useful. I know it's extra work to do that. Appreciated.
Damm ken you had a hydra a long time man.. !!!
Steven J well I was/am a part of the team that developed it. ;)
Has this really got 1000's of oscillators, as I read somewhere?
DAVID SIMONS I did a video on this subject. 2 osc each *5*5(wavestacks) *8 unison +8 additional osc. And then *5 chorus stack, *5 chorus stack.
Like , very good video edition. Stay connected. Thanks
Is it possible to modulate the waveforms with the envelopes?
Olivier Renoir Of course
OMG my GAS !!! I want the Keyboard and the desktop together to play both and go crazy really ! 🐱🏍 🤷♀️ 🙄
Do you know if it's possible to update the firmware using a Mac?
Of course
@@Fluxwithit MY OS is ancient...Yosemite 10.10.5....hopefully it can still be done

I guess that’s a good way to burn-in speakers.

When you want the ribbon controller.... but you're not sure you want to pay the $400 for it, spose they throw i n the keyboard with it too.
First in!
Still sounds pretty cheap to me for some reason, but that might be TH-cam. What's your thought
my recommendation... head to knobcon and check it for yourself. nothing I say would sway your opinion.
VIDEOSELEKTOR ????????
Cheap? Korg Prologue or Nord Lead A1 sound cheap. This Thing is just HUGE 🔥
a synth from nowhere, a DX 7 on steroids, I think I buy it
Now give that synth to poor people and wait a couple of years for them to create a new genra.
