- What could follow Conrail's last-day opening act of 3 trains at once on The Curve? How about a westbound TV train with 10 units; a wild head-end lashup - SD60M/SD60M/LMS C40-8W/SD70/SD80MAC/GP40-2/Ballast Express C32-8/C40-8W - plus an SD40-2 pair pushing. Lead helper 6375 was also part of a monster consist the first time I was at The Curve with a video camera, in 1994, as one of the pushers on the 9-unit westbound I saw at Gallitzin (see the '9-unit Westbound at Gallitzin' clip).
Hmm, one person has inexplicably failed to appreciate the awesomeness that is Horseshoe Curve.
Interesting. I noticed some of those head engines were already patched, what a shame. I remember when Conrail when out, it didnt take long for things to change.
Yes, FastFlyingVirginian, you are exatly correct! Just read on their website that the areas it operates in are Shared Assest Areas, like you said. So, what are shared asset areas?, like shortlines, or even smaller than that?
I NEVER thought I'd say this, being an EL fan from back in the day, but here goes...I sure do miss "Big Blue!!"
FastFlyingVirginian, I agree. Idk if it was "class" though, or just laziness, but from what I remember, Conrail was (well.. syill is) one hell of a railroad. I believe they still run, I just forget where. Anyway, that is possibly the biggest bad ass conrail consist ever. Now, question is... Did the train need that much power, or were the trains on their way to the shop?
You will be missed con rail… R.I.P 1976-1999
Im so happy im gonig 2 the curve next month.... i can finnaly say goodbye Conrail....
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
Listen to all that screeching!!!
U know. I was thinking today;"why do I like conrail so much?" I mean, a conrail locomotive, is JUST a paint scheme, right? I know they had some locos that others don't normally have (Ballast Express), but honestly, Being a good railroad has to be more than a paint scheme. Nice engineers, large client lists, and the abilty to get sh*t done are 3 things I remember cnrail for. And I can remeber as a kid being happy as hll to see a CR "Qualoty" loco! =-p
An LMS and Conrail grey in same latch up!!
One of only two times I ever saw a C32-8. The first time, in August '94, it was in blue paint.
I have seen some conrail units with the NS patches on them.
Year ?
1999.
the ns 1 i can stand cause it kinda matches conrail but i absolutly hate the CSX number patch...
I hate those patches, and CSX And NS
