After watching this video, I’m reminded of the starvation in the East End video you made a while back. And of the first chapter of Rumblelows book. You both have an ability to bring the people’s agony to life. A stark reminder to appreciate what we have. Thank u Rich.
😢 Richard, this one made me cry. I'm an Australian Disability pensioner in government housing. I thought how disbelieving those people would be of my good fortune.
I have just thanked God that I had 2 good parents who worked every day. And I have always been healthy enough to work every day. And I have never been homeless or starving.
We supposedly had the greatest Empire in history at the time. However, what is great about an empire that can't even look after the very class of people that made it possible. Disgusting. Thanks for your videos mate.
Crikey, that was certainly compelling, very well put together and the journalist's words bring the awful stench of poverty and depravation into sharp focus. I'm reminded of a line in Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'; 'are they not of the human race'?
The truly sad thing is that there are still people today that would happily go right back to this if they could profit from it. And it's more likely than one might think, what with the rise of AI and the threat that it poses to lower-class employment.
It is heart breaking to see this in a country with an empire of a third of the world. Knowing so few were getting so much from "Empire " and so many were getting virtually nothing . It didn't change much during the early part of the 20th century. No wonder there was a huge electoral landslide in 1945 with Labour coming to power .

This broke my heart. So very sad.

Heartbreaking, utterly Heartbreaking!!😢😢😔😔😔😔
While the treasury was pouring out money to send the army to conquer foreign lands. The dark stain on British history. Excellent video Richard.
The Empire did not care for the working class they were there to serve them and nothing has changef
Isn't it refreshing to have excellent, human narration for a change. Bravo.
Nice one, Richard. Very moving.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Thanks for the video. Very good.

No different today
Heart-breaking stuff :( Sadly, so many of us today are still suffering :(
Brilliant as usual

Thankyou Richard 🙂
My mum used to tell us ‘this isn’t a Dos house, you know’. Don’t think she quite understood the term.
My mum used to say it as well, so did I! We both knew what a doss house was though.
Was thinking all the rich warm in their beds not far away....
And that, ladies and gentlemen is why we developed the welfare state. Tell that to Mr Sunak and his ilk.

This is pitiful. I'm glad these people are dead and gone, their misery over.
Woah I'm early lol. I'm sure this will be another interesting insight into Victorian London as usual. :)
