Paint Brush, that was my experience in Japan back in 1983. I corresponded with a college student for a year. I was 29, so fairly close in age. We met on the train to Mount Fji. Her name was Yumi Yamada. We were just 2 young women who had a good trip.
While it sucks I’m unable to do things like this, I absolutely love that you’re doing things on your own. Feels like I can live vicariously through you just a little!
You are fully able to do things like this. Get a game plan work towards it. Its that simple. Telling yourself you cant do something is a definite way for it to never happen.

I am 33 years old I have worked a normal 9-5 job for the same company for 10 years I get a month and two weeks of time off per year that I have EARNED by being there for over 10 years. NOTHING is hard or expensive about it, its called SAVE your money, BUDGET for a trip, WORK HARD and work somewhere long enough that you get enough time off. The problem is a lot of people including what sounds like you want everything in life to be simple and easy and that isnt how the real world works. If you want something then put in the work to get it, if you want to go somewhere put in the time and effort to go there. Instead yall sit around on youtube all day making excuses as to why you cant do shit in life. Its truly sad to read some of your comments I feel bad that your brains tell you these things.

These Japan videos are so interesting! Most TH-camrs just go to the cities and the parks. It’s so nice to see other things that are so traditional to Japan. Great job
I like to watch knife making and CabCon building shows on TH-cam. My japanese is very rusty, I can see that the subtitles don't always convey the same instrument. Even when I shop for japanese imported stuff here in the states, google translate's camera mode doesn't capture the same meaning. Because kanji characters can be read in different ways. Sometimes the phrase might be colloquial or regional dialect. Same with English translation. Sometimes google can't properly translate british English or southeast American English. I wouldn't want to trust google with translating instructions involving hot and sharp processes.
This series is SO interesting Man! to see you embrace the Japanese culture and not be afraid to try different things, foods, traditions, etc... makes your videos so much better than most other youtbers. Very interesting!

Loving the Japan series! I want to share that the proper way to say "thank you" in Japanese is "Arigato Gozaimasu." This is the most respectful way to say it and how it should be used in situations with strangers/employees. If you are with friends, you can say "arigato" or "domo arigato." Just wanted to share and hope it helps! If you ever come over to Korea, I have some great recommendations of places to go, as well as cool camping/hiking spots! Enjoy the rest of your trip in Japan!

You mentioned one student making a knife for his wife as wedding present: My 88 yr old father (who to this day still travels all over North America) several weeks ago pointed out that for decades the only sharp knife in my parent's kitchen was (to my surprise!) a knife made by hand, by my Mom's father. He presented the knife to my parents as their wedding present way back in 1956. A millwright, my grandfather and a friend worked together hand forging it north of Lake of Superior in a small mining town in Northern Ontario (back in the bush as they use to say). If not for that casual mention a piece to the puzzle of understanding my grandfather was uncovered. It's pretty cool that the knife you created will no doubt be passed down through your family members for generations to come.
The Japanese people are truly very friendly and their towns are in what they call prefectures. The buildings architecture are so beautiful and the land is just as stunning!

As in my case and many others like me there are factors that make it difficult and next to impossible like age, physical disabilities as well as financial means not to mention the mental capacity and confidence. It may also be the main reason why we gravitate towards people like Mav whom we can live vicariously through and appreciate him for what he does and shares with the rest of us whether he makes a living doing so or not. My only advice to give would be to go for it and live life to its fullest while you're young and physically able and to not put it off until it's a "better time" because that better time may never come around as life has a tendency to get in the way. Don't spend your life saving up and preparing for that once in a lifetime adventure. Do it now while you can and are able to enjoy it and look back on those memories later when you can't.
Wrapping gifts is a special art form in Japan. The care and skill taken is also part of the gift. Paper is never ripped when opening the gift, it is saved as well. Not sure if you're already home or not. I watch Solo Travel Japan and taking a Ferry is a cool way to get around, spend a night in a nice room and have great food.

yeah Japan is so odd, can go from the most ultra modern packed cities, drive for like an hour or 2 and be in the most rural beautiful nature you can find anywhere

That is way cool you are now traveling Japan! My home town is in the island off the main land called Shikoku in the prefecture called Kochi. The food their is phenomenal and fresh! The only down side is that they do not have too much english support so knowing a bit of Japanese would definitely help if you were ever to possibly take a look there. But this series is great and I want to go back to Japan so bad after watching it.

I lived in Hawaii for 5 years (until 2020) as a special education teacher and made several Japanese friends there, a few of who I still keep in touch with. They were so kind and considerate! I wanted to go to Japan because the flights from Hawaii were really cheap, but I didn't have my passport! I had one colleague who went quite often and he showed me gorgeous pictures he took there.

Man the patience those people had in the forge translating for you and everything. I'm pretty sure you can hook an AirPod up and Google translate will real time translate everything back and forth between English and Japanese so they can read it on your phone and you'll hear the translation in your ear, I'd always wondered how hard it would be to get around using technology like that

I've had the pleasure of working with and becoming friends with some Japanese volunteers that come to the UK to work in Disabled Care for 12 months. The are genuinely the nicest ppl I have ever met. I'm still in contact with them to this day. 👊

I can't begin to describe how watching this makes me feel, I'm a young adult still stuck in their parents house, can't afford to move out or travel, yet when I watch these it at least feels a little bit like I'm able to escape for short bit of time. Thank you for giving us such a neat look into they way you live.

This gives me a new perspective of Japan, something different from the urban cities and stuff that other TH-camrs show. Also never knew Japan had this much nature, which is beautiful!
yeah Japan is so odd, can go from the most ultra modern packed cities, drive for like an hour or 2 and be in the most rural beautiful nature you can find anywhere
@@amythistxue1 yeah really cool. tbh before this series I thought Japan looked boring, and depressing almost, just because of the empty alleyways and dystopian cities ive seen in other videos. But that definitely isn't the case. I'm glad Mav is putting in the work and living the dream to show us!

That is way cool you are now traveling Japan! My home town is in the island off the main land called Shikoku in the prefecture called Kochi. The food their is phenomenal and fresh! The only down side is that they do not have too much english support so knowing a bit of Japanese would definitely help if you were ever to possibly take a look there. But this series is great and I want to go back to Japan so bad after watching it.

I miss Japan! As a whole, they are thee nicest and most helpful people I’ve ever had the fortune to come across in my international travels.
I lived in Hawaii for 5 years (until 2020) as a special education teacher and made several Japanese friends there, a few of who I still keep in touch with. They were so kind and considerate! I wanted to go to Japan because the flights from Hawaii were really cheap, but I didn't have my passport! I had one colleague who went quite often and he showed me gorgeous pictures he took there.

My favorite thing about Mav and his channel is the sense of pure adventure and the thrill of each situation he stumbles into. Positivity goes a long way when your out doing your own thing on your own time. Love It.

Man the patience those people had in the forge translating for you and everything. I'm pretty sure you can hook an AirPod up and Google translate will real time translate everything back and forth between English and Japanese so they can read it on your phone and you'll hear the translation in your ear, I'd always wondered how hard it would be to get around using technology like that

I've had the pleasure of working with and becoming friends with some Japanese volunteers that come to the UK to work in Disabled Care for 12 months. The are genuinely the nicest ppl I have ever met. I'm still in contact with them to this day. 👊
I love that you will always be a part of those strangers lives, and that we can all communicate and get along even with language barriers.
I love travelling, I love meeting people and impressing a small part of myself on their lives, like a dog ear in a book or a indent in the carpet. Wonderful
