I was struggling to figuring out how to put back the Platon in my Monarch Noiseless 8, which greatly upset me since I was very proud of this antique store find. I thought to myself that I had surely broken my my new treasure. Then I found this series of videos, thank you for the amazing eureka moment!

I can't push the thing that permits you to move the paper, and I was searching an answer in your videos. I didn't really found something that could help me but still it was usefull and well explicated :) (I just bought my typewriter so I'm kinda sad that I can't use it 😅). I looked up everywhere to find the problem but still don't see it, even with more light...

Great to see that someone else had to follow the same learning-curve 😂

Oh, believe me, SK. In my case, that curve has resulted in, at times, a seemingly aimless circle. 😉

i've this typewriter but 2 hammer of 6 & 9 key are not working can you guide me how to open and repair typebars?

Hi @TheBuyBoxCompany. It's difficult to conduct a mechanical analysis via comments. There are so many factors that need to be ascertained. For instance:
What make and model typewriter do you have?
What do you mean specifically when you say the 6 and 9 keys "are not working"?
Why do you believe the typebars need to be repaired?
Regarding "open and repair" ... let's not put the cart before the horse. You might not have to do any of that.
Please be more specific and I'll try to help you as best I can.
Wishing you luck and my best.

Hi there, could you provide any contact info for the vendors you used to replace the feed rollers and platen? I just purchased a near identical model (Remington Model 1 Serial # begins with PD17) as a surprise birthday gift for my girlfriend and the feed rollers are completely useless. I am brand new to vintage typewriters, but I am fairly handy and I would love to try and have it in working condition before giving it to her.

Hi Matt. I used a combination of vendors for this machine. The feet and feed rollers came from Steve Dade in Simi California who passed away this time last year. A huge loss to the typewriter community. He is missed. The platen, however, came from JJ Short & Associates (www.jjshort.com/typewriter-platen-repair.php). They can also do the feed rollers. I'm not sure if they handle the feet. A quick google search shows many vendors such as the one below one who might be able to supply them. Wishing you the best of luck and please stay in touch! Let me know how it goes!

Noted. But it's honestly not suitable for TH-cam, @Ella Shteynberg. Some of the words and oaths and phrases I uttered would have melted a fishmonger's ears.

Did you get caught by the detent, always release the platen detent, forgot to tell you, we used long bladed screw drivers so we could see what we were doing and gain the befit of torque....good on you well done

The "little spool" sits in the teeth of the line space wheel to lock the line spaced in place

Ha! Took me a few minutes to figure out the detent, but you had it right, of course. Good on you, Mr. Ogle!
