Wow, this is the third YT video in a row that proclaims to be a complete guide I have watched, and none of them have told me how to apply the crop at the end so I am not working with a highlighted crop all the time. As a LR user trying Darktable, this is really frustrating.
Another great video, thanks! I'm glad you are getting back into dt. I too am starting to get more into photography after the pandemic damped everything. After watching your video, I was playing around with the options. I usually only use the rule of third, but will now try others. One thing you can mention is the FLIP option that appears only in certain grid lines. For example, in the spiral, the center you showed was in the top right, but one can flip that vertically or horizontally depending on the image. Keep up the great work!
Hey sorry it took me a while to reply! I've just had a look and it seems you'll have to do the math. So like 1700x700 pixels, or 850x350 pixels etc. This can be achieved using the freehand.
I was looking for the same answer and it turns out to be very easy. Just click on aspect to open the dropdown and type in your ratio (so for example just 17:7)

Close the crop module, and it will automatically apply
@@RicoResolves Thanks, I have worked it out, that is very unintuitive.
Agreed, wish it had an "apply" button
@@RicoResolves this .05 second comment is all I was waiting for through the 9:47 minute video!
Another great video, thanks!

Great addition Richard, I completely missed that!
Very informative
Much appreciated Kijanayaangurai!

Where is the Crop Module (without using the search feature)?
Found it! How do we create a favourites menu? I'm moving over from Adobe and use crop more than anything.
How do you make a custom crop ratio in Darktable? Say something like 17:7? The old "crop and rotate module" allowed for this, but it is gone now.
