And God only know how many dogs were named Boo after that ! Classic and unique story of how Boo helped you achieve your first hit song ! I love dogs and I do think they are a man's best friend ! 😍
Hi Kent. Shout out from a DJ here in Victoria. I was a DJ in Victoria for 4 years. Have loved your music growing up. I am a 67 year old. My fav of yours is A Simple Man. Always have loved your lyrics and awesome instrumental work.
Love love love your music, and especially 2 songs that are part of the songbook of my life. Me and You and a Dog Named Boo and Don't Expect Me to be Your Friend. Thank you for the incredible joy and memories, Chuck, a fan, in NC
Cool knowing the background of songs. I had just graduated from high school. The summer of '71 a group of us went camping in northeastern New Mexico in the Taos-Red River-Eaglenest area. At the time there was a "hippie" commune near Taos. In those days it was something new to see guys with long hair. Great song, Great memories, Great times
What an awesome story. This song has been with me through many good and bad times growing up in St. Petersburg, Fl. To this day is still one of my best and most remembered songs.
This song is just pure musical sunshine for me and I have always loved it. It has always been a real favourite. It's just so free and easy going. Perfect to listen to anytime you need something special that is guaranteed to make you smile and be happy. And of course, with is being about being with your dog is extra special. I really love dogs and being with mine is just the best thing in the world and this song is about that.😄🐕🎵🌞🎸
This song is a trip. It causes my mind to think, "What if I went across the country when I was younger." And then my mind starts to wander. It brings a lot of imagination to my mind. One of my favorite tunes from the early 70s. Music like this makes me wish I could go back in time.
When I pick up my granddaughter from Camp, I play this some almost everyday and she tells she hates it and makes up lyrics and we laughing. My hope someday when I’m gone she plays this song and laughs thinking about me.
I'm sure she will. She may not appreciate the song as we oldies do but 😭've seen young people loving those good old songs when they're older ( 30's and 40's ). And what a good way to remember you by ..... in the far future of course ! 🙂🥰🙏
A few years ago in a music store, they were playing all the latest hits over the P/A to induce patrons to buy the latest hits. Then I saw this Lobo song on the racks and got permission to play it over the P/A. And everybody in the store was into it, many of whom had never heard the song because they were from a younger generation. But they instantly loved it. Then, a manager changed the record back to playing the latest hits because the latest hits are what record stores are obligated to promote.
Would be awesome if you can share about many other songs that you wrote and we love. I always wonder how you could write such beautiful songs like Don't expect me to be your friend, Don't tell me goodnight, How can I tell her... and the stories behind them. Thank you for your music!!!
"Me and you and a diaper full 'uh poo travelin' and living off the land..." This was an inside-joke my older brother [RIP] came up with after he joked about slipping laxatives into the protein shakes of a co-worker (SOMETHING, NEITHER OF US *ACTUALLY* EVER DID, to be clear)... Anyhow the person he joked about "slipping laxatives to" was a bodybuilder who, when flexing, used to get that same "look" on his face as a toddler pooping in his/her diaper, and *this* is what spawned that immature, albeit funny (to us, at least) "inside joke" nearly 17 years ago!
During that time, teenagers wanted to hitch hike across the country to discover America: "I've got some real estate here in my bag" So we bought a pack of cigarettes and Mrs. Wagner pies And walked off to look for America." Back then San Francisco did not have crime and homeless people: All across the nation such a strange vibration People in motion There's a whole generation with a new explanation People in motion, people in motion If you're going to San Francisco You're gonna meet some gentle people there Los Angeles was also safe in the old days. In 1969-70 I read in "Record World" magazine a short note of 3 lines, Big Tree will have a big hit with Lobo, "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo".
Loved the way he told the "story". He made it sound like something strange or unusual happened. Pretty mundane.
Great song though.
anytime in my life I wanted to get away with just myself and my thoughts I always put on a Lobo album.
"Me and you and a diaper full 'uh poo
travelin' and living off the land..."

Wonder if Boo got any royalties
Boo was offered a check for $2000.00 or a 10 pound box of Milk Bone dog biscuits. To everyone's astonishment Boo chose the biscuits.... LOL.
