Hi everyone, thanks for watching! In this week's video, we look at some of the shortfalls of drug testing and how testing mental awareness can actually be more effective in preventing incidents. What's also nice is that it can be used alone or alongside your current drug testing program, it's easier for people to self-monitor, and it doesn't have any of the invasiveness of drug testing. Let me know what you think!

With weed being legal drug testing got more complicated for us. I'd rather see something like this or a field sobriety test where we can tell how mentally fit people are to work. Drug tests don't even look at rx drugs and those cause a lot of problems too.

Oral fluid tests deal with the THC issue and prescription drugs (opioids, narcotics, etc etc.) do show up on drug & alcohol tests.

Many companies using AlertMeter put drug testing behind this cognitive impairment assessment and only do a drug test if there is reasonable suspicion (like consistently scoring ONR - Outside Normal Range). This means drug testing costs go down while safety goes up. Employee retention has also been shown to go up since AlertMeter is measuring today's impairment and not last week's usage.

I know many people who smoke marijuana and still attend school on time and do well. Same for their part time job. It may be recognized in some states but on the Federal side and many jobs with sensitive responsibilities they do no accept drugs.

Regulations differ from state to state and employers will have their own regulations to address both state and federal guidelines. The best bet is to check with your employer to understand regulations that might apply to you.
